State opens +13.5 vs FSU

OUCH! Not a whole lotta respect for the home team this week. To be fair, we don’t deserve a lot of respect.

The good news is that Carter-Finley Stadium has served us relatively well in the recent series against the Seminoles. NC State has won four of the last seven games played in Raleigh.

2010 – NC State wins 28-24

2008 – FSU (comeback in 4th Qtr) to win 26-17

2006 – NC State wins 24-20

2004 – FSU wins 17-10

2002 – NC State wins 17-7 in a game where I still think their QB was gambling and had point shaved.

2000 – FSU wins ugly! Worst loss in Chuck Amato era by a mile.

1998 – NC State wins 24-7 over #2 FSU to give the Seminoles only their second loss in the history of the ACC.

    Seems generous considering.

Well, if the pattern continues, FSU wins this year.

Will our team be mad with something to prove and show up ready to play, or have they already thrown in the towell?

this game is before the patented TOB bye week adjustment.

If I were a betting guy, I’d put all I had on FSU with that spread!

I thought it would be more like 20. Still, we have our hands full. This is not the same FSU bunch.

    Prediction: 34 – 10 FSU

  8. JKL 10/01/2012 at 11:38 AM #

    Wait… they’ll get a safety: 36-10 FSU

A 1st qtr blowout is a safe bet.

This team reminds me a lot of Lowe’s last team. I know it is a different sport, but I recall having a good deal of hope going into the season that with the addition of Calvin and returning experience we were due to have a breakout year. Then we went to Wisconsin and got our arses handed to us in a blowout. It was pretty much downhill from there. I hope I’m wrong, but I could see this game getting out of hand quickly if we show up with anything less than our best effort. Once you lose team chemistry it is very hard to get back and with the way the defensive secondary has been playing, I would be pissed if I was an offensive player.

    Charlie Strong

I just don’t know how you look at the Tennessee and Miami games and don’t come away thinking we have some serious athleticism issues. Those teams ran right by us all game long. Any quick way to make a team faster in less than a week? I am all ears.

The good news is it looks like we have a solid ground game this year. The bad news is FSU is infinitely more talented than Tennessee and Miami, and we may find ourselves down by a bunch early on. Glennon is going to have to have a big game. I know he is up to it, but I have serious questions about being able to stop the Noles.

I love Charlie Strong as well. The problem is I think he already has a realtor looking around in Knoxville and Fayetteville. He is an SEC guy through and through.

Put EVERYTHING on FSU to cover, especially if Amerson is on the field…

    FSU 45+ – State LT 17

In the Miami game, we couldn’t stop them on defense, but actually played better than they did on offense (turnovers aside). That’s why we were still in the game at the end despite the monumental mistakes. So the question to ask yourself is: why were they unable to stop us on offense? Is it (a) because we have a great offense; or (b) because they have a really crappy defense?

I suggest that (b) is the case. I believe that we will have some offensive success against FSU, but nowhere near to the extent that we were successful against Miami. On the other side, I see no reason to suspect that we will be able to stop their offense at all.

34-10 sounds about right to me, as posted above. If I were a bettor, I’d bet a big chunk that the current line is way too small.

That said, I’ll be watching and cheering my ass off. The team has risen to the occasion before and surprised me. I’ll be hoping beyond hope for that outcome.

Chop woooooooooddddddddddd Coach Tom I’m a Marine Chopping Wood type of Coach O’Brien. Chop that wood. Whewwww Ric Flair loves to chop wood on a cold winter night.

At least we don’t cheat that’s all I care about. Chop it.

FSU will cover that spread with ease if we play the same as we did against Tennessee and Miami.

After the Citadel game, I went back to the hotel and watched the Clempson/FSU game and noticed one thing – FSU’s defense found another gear when they realized that CU wasn’t going to stop scoring. That was kind of scary. Nevermind the fact that we slobberknocked CU last year, they still have a high powered offense.

I’m disappointed with TOB for one main thing – preferential treatment. Thornton fumbles – he’s put on the bench. Barnes fumbles – he’s put on the bench. Amerson gets lit up and he’s allowed to keep playing. The one that did me in was where he stopped playing and let his man run down field. Put his ass on the bench and bring in a freshman that wants to play ball!!!!

Nonetheless, I’ll be there Saturday night in my usual seat cheering us on. The crowd needs to be loud and support the team, but we also need to let TOB know when a bad decision is made.

    GO PACK!

“I just don’t know how you look at the Tennessee and Miami games and don’t come away thinking we have some serious athleticism issues.”

IMHO, Amerson is the only one who is getting out athleted (made up word) by getting burned.

I saw an undisciplined, mistake riddled team. Not a team that was loosing the match ups. I think our lines were winning both battles….and our RBs were getting 3 to 4 yards a pop consistently and recievers were getting the balls (minus a couple of drops).

However, when you snap the ball over the QBs head for a safety, have the ball ripped from your hands as you try to get over the goal line, and quit when the D line goes off sides to give up a TD, thats not an atleticism issue….neither is 14 penalties for 98 yards (and remember the declined offsides penalties are not included in this stat, so add at least 2 more).

Miami has a ton of athletes, but over all I respectfully disagree that athleticism is the problem with this team. IT WILL be and issue this saturday night though. We will get BEASTED in everyphase of the game by better athletes….

^ They’re not calling off the dogs when they’re in the National Title hunt.

    FSU 73-17

We’ll turn the corner after that bye week though.

????? Packalum44, did you graduate from State in 1944? That would make you about 90 years old and would explain a lot.

Around the corner and into the dead end.

Which team, and which set of coaches, will show up this Saturday? If the team and coaches from last weekend are there, we’ll lose by 40 points easily. If the team and coaches I expected to see this year show up, we’ll probably lose only by 10-20 points.

And who knows? FSU has overlooked us before….

Here’s some most interesting tweets by Derek Medlin at WRAL:

“NC State is 4-6 in its last 10 meetings with FSU. All of those wins (’10, ’06, ’05 and ’03) came when the ‘Noles were ranked.”

“Last top-five ranked team to come to Carter-Finley was Florida State (No. 2) in 1998. State got lots of interceptions that day, won 24-7.”

“In fact, Chris Weinke threw all six of his interceptions for the season that day against NC State.”

    Karma?!
