A Twitter account called Football Rumor Mill (link) attached to this website posted a few items today that we re-tweeted. Haven’t had time to blog much the last few days — letting our message forums carry the heavy load — but wanted to share the tweets.

Multiple sources indicate NC State is likely to dump head coach Tom O’Brien

Early NC State names include Southern Miss head coach Larry Fedora and Alabama AHC Sal Sunseri.

Expect former New Mexico coach Mike Locksley to the on staff at NC State, whoever is named the new head coach.

I don’t know where in the hell the Locksley stuff comes from. I need to go back to re-fresh myself some…but, I seem to remember reading some really ‘interesting’ stuff about him about a year ago that left me with an odd taste in my mouth. The takeaway from the reading is that the guy was a real ass-hole. Of course, I could be 100% incorrect and need to re-affirm my memory. On a related note, Backing the Pack said the following (link):

Maybe Sunseri should be added to the POAPS list, even if this is a dubious source. Locksley is the former head coach at New Mexico, who was fired early in the year for general ineptitude and also because a UNM recruit was pulled over and charged with a DWI in a car registered to Locksley. Locksley was an assistant at Maryland from 1998-2002 before moving on to Florida, Illinois, and then New Mexico. So there is a Debbie Yow connection, though I find it hard to believe we would touch Locksley right now.

    Speaking of BTP, a few of us over there have been revving up our Profiles of Possible Saviors (which we first debuted during the basketball coaching search) as it becomes more and more likely that Tom O’Brien will bite the dust. Our goal is simple: to do a somewhat in-depth look at potential candidates and hopefully do more homework than Lee Fowler did in pretty much any major coaching search he conducted. Larry Fedora is #1, there will be more to follow!

    Speculation! “conjectural consideration of a matter”.

    Can we please get though the Maryland game before “fire a coach”, find his replacement, and pick the wins and losses for 2012. Certain that previous post that DY said “nothing would be done until end of season”.

    Now you can throw rocks at me for disagree with concept of this post.

    Are you people drunk??? I’m not elated that we lose important bowl-implication games every year either… BUT, the MOST IMPORTANT game every year is beating those cheatin’ ass Tar Holes and TOB is 5-0 against those Bast@*ds!! Only two coaches in the history of our program owns property rights to their Tar Holes, Dick Sheridan (the Greatest NC State Football Coach Ever!), and TOB… Who gives a rats-ass about playing in the “Whogivesaratsass.com Bowl” that means absolutely NOTHING at the end of everyone’s dismal pigskin campaign! Every other game outside of the MYTHICAL BCS Championship game means absolutely nothing… BUT, holding the mortgage on Cheatin’ Hill’s lower tract is priceless!!!!!

    I don’t see any way that Tom O’Brien survives this shit sandwich of a football season. And I have a much, much higher opinion of his coaching ability than does Debbie Yow.

    The Locksley thing is troubling. If Yow is dictating who a head coach must have as one of his assistants, I am quite troubled. We will only hire someone who is desperate for a major coaching job, and has no other options. Blech.

    Though I am sure DY is committed to waiting til season’s end, we do need to look at possibilities, as for me I was quite impressed with the coach of Cincy. He is a great coach, and showed some emotion and enthusiasm on the sidelines. Something our fold arm TOB doesn’t show. And the team reflects that. Probably not a chance with their success this year, but just wanted to bring him up for consideration. Just please get someone who will spark the offensive game plan, and rid us of the boring Bible offensive schemes, in his small playbook, but even if we win out, please don’t let that alter our plans. No road wins in our division in 5 years! Unacceptable.

    Cincy’s coach makes around $2 million a year and will likely be in line for a big raise this year…just don’t see us going into the $2.5 million+ range for this hire. Maybe I’m wrong.

    The thing that could bring about a swift football coaching change could well be the success of our basketball team so far. No, we haven’t done anything earthshattering, but for those who haven’t seen the turnaround in the way our team is playing should pay attention. It’s a complete turnaround so far from the undisciplined, uninspired, and generally just plain stupid basketball we had last season, by the same players no less. I think we have a basketball coaching staff that’s the real deal, proving that State CAN win with the proper leadership.

    The right coaching staff could move football in the same positive direction that basketball seems headed. We’ve got the facilities and fan base to support it. The current football staff might be able to do it too, but not with continued poor recruiting.

    In short, I believe we’re headed in the right direction in basketball given the current recruiting and team play, but I do not believe that we are in football. I like TOB just as much as Gott, but this is about results, isn’t it?

    Seems like the first seeds of doubt in the TOB era were sewn in the final 2 games of the 2007 season, when we lost at Wake and finished it at home with a 37-0 wipeout at the hands of a 5-6 Maryland team. 2011 is looking a lot like ’07, isn’t it?

    Southern Miss is 9-1 (5-1), #22 in the nation, and sitting atop C-USA. Fedora is known for his high-powered offenses at Oklahoma State and Florida which won him the USM HC job. Take a look at Oklahoma State’s offense right now and you will see a lot of guys that are JRs and SRs that Fedora recruited.

    Not to mention that Fedora has had three winning seasons at USM prior to this season.

    He is 49, aggressive, and was willing to make a change at DC prior to this season which has led to their breakthrough in CUSA.

    Looking at Fedora’s conference record – until this year – it wasn’t much better at all than his predecessor.

    And let’s face it – USM is one of the top programs in C-USA. Personally, I want someone who in an outlier on the positive side.

    Art Briles, Sumlin, or Leach is whom I’d prefer…But hey, given our history w/ obtaining successful coaches, I guess I’d be shocked if we could get Fedora.

    And if Yow is entertaining brining in someone like that New Mexico State cat – we need a new AD ASAP.

    I don’t want distraction for the coaching staff, players or recruits until the season’s over. Let the season be completely over with before we talk about the man’s job like it’s anyone’s but his right now.

    Actually watched a special tonite on Dish on CBSSN/College Confidential, on Coach Fedora and his team, practices, coaches, and games. I was impressed with what I saw.

    Per wiki, FrAnklin and Locksley were the only two coaches that Friedgin kept from vanderlinens’ staff. Interesting.

    $2.5 mil for the Cincy coach? Give me Mike Leach – throw in a beach house at Wrightsville for him and the pirate will be right at home at NC State. He looks good in red and is an under-armor guy (new sports deal?). Damn sure we won’t be wondering what to do on offense.

    Beating UNC every year (of late) has been nice. But to those out there that are satisfied with just that, well….that’s just lame….and shortsighted. I’d trade victories over UNC every other year for being ACC champs every now and then and top 25 year end year out. You got to get beyond the UNC thing. You give them more credit than they deserve. I’d rather consistently beat whichever conference teams are in the top 10 than give those ass clowns my undivided attention. I want THE STATE to be the team everybody gives their best shot to beat.
