The Sporting News has posted this article about the case of former UNC-CH player Robert Quinn. There is lots of amusing stuff in the piece, but the following passage regarding the thousands of dollars in free jewelry is laugh-out-loud funny
Quinn said he did would not have accepted the jewelry if he knew it was a violation.
“All they talk about is, don’t take nothing from agents, don’t take nothing from agents. They beat that into my head. OK — this dude’s not an agent,†he said. “I wouldn’t purposely do something wrong knowing it could jeopardize myself.â€
Asked whether he thinks the jeweler gave him the items with the hope Quinn would buy more items in the future, Quinn said he believes the jeweler was simply being friendly.
“To make a new friend you’ve got to meet a stranger,†Quinn said. “That’s the kind of person I am.â€
He didn’t think accepting free jewelry was a violation?Â
He thought the jeweler was just being friendly?Â
How many of you have been given thousands of dollars in free jewelry by strangers?
Also, how dumb do you have to be to not delete texts about free jewelry before an NCAA interview about possible violations? And then to have the phone with the texts sitting in plain sight during the interview?
Wow! That is some Jedi-level stupid right there. In other news…..
Butch’s recruiting class is unraveling.
WPDE Sports has learned that Myrtle Beach quarterback Everett Golson has de-committed from the University of North Carolina and will play college football at Notre Dame. Notre Dame had a home visit with Golson on Wednesday and that was when the decision was made.
Golson was an early commitment to North Carolina during his junior year, but with NCAA sanctions looming, the Seahawks quarterback reopened his recruiting. He made an official visit to Notre Dame when the Fighting Irish upset Utah in November
Golson was rated 4-stars by Scout.com. UNC had 2 top rated quarterbacks committed, so losing only Golson may not have been a huge blow. However, there are rumors that UNC’s other 4-star quarterback commitment will end up being a Hokie:
I have it on good authority that quarterback rom Mallard Creek High School in Marquise Williams fCharlotte, N.C., has told Virginia Tech’s football staff that he will sign with the Hokies.
At this point, however, Tech is waiting to see if Williams goes public. He earlier had made an oral commitment to North Carolina but since then has taken official visits to Tech, N.C. State and Michigan.
Williams (6-3, 218) received four stars out of five from the rivals.com ratings service.
