Sounds about right. Now go take care of business. No excuses.

If aspirations are to go to a better bowl than the Papa Johns bowl as well as contending for the ACC in November, is this game a must win? I think it is. I understand it has no bearing on the ACC standings, but if NCSU is going to win 5-6-7 ACC games then they should be able to beat Pitt at home. What do ya’ll think.

By scheduling GW and Murray St we can only use one of them as a
counted victory for a bowl. Yes we need to win this game or we have
to go 5-3 in the ACC. That would get us to 6-6 and I’m a guy that
had a hard time back when college teams played 11 games a year
hated or should I say look down on a 6-5 team going to a bowl. But
that was a time in this game when it was about records and who you
beat and not about money and how many people you can bring to the
bowl like it is today. I guess its always about the money. It’s not
only about needing this game Saturday so we dont have the pressure
of winning that many in the ACC but, we need this game in ways that
are bigger than the ACC. National recognition!!! Yes believe it
or not but Pitt should finish 1,2 or 3 in the Big East. I’m thinking
probally 2nd behind Cinn. Everyone I here says FSU,VA Tech are the
sure losses in conference so that would mean we can only lose 1 more time, but to who? Clemson, WF, BC, UNC. We all feel that Duke and
the Terps will be W’s. I think we are better than a lot of us think.
Now I have to go back and continue watching this lets make sure
Miss wins by the Officiating Crew to help the SEC have their 3
teams in the top 5 game.(Yes I do belive this happens in CF from time
to time)That is for another day. Go Pack…

Maybe I’m wrong! its 9-3 USC in the 3rd Qtr. Or maybe they just cant
do anymore for Miss without being obvious with instant replay.
They can always throw in a holding call. I wish I was dead
    wrong about that subject.

If South Carolina wins against Miss maybe that backs my point
of we might be better than some of us think we are and, that
included me a couple weeks ago.

6-6= no bowl for State this year I think, isn’t 6-6 only able to be used once every other year?

And SCAR won , hopefully that’s a sign that their D is that good, and not that our O is that bad.

I trust our D more then our O right now.

“we can only use one of them as a counted victory for a bowl.”

As I remember from last year, only one can count to the minimum of 6 wins. We were at 6-6 and someone else was at 7-5 w/ 2 I-AA wins and they ended up ahead of us in the official pecking order. I think 7 wins with our travel history puts us in the mix for a good number of places.

At some point, if there are a consistently high number of nagging injuries, you have to look at the training staff.

It’s good that these guys are back, but one has to wonder “for how long?” or “who will go down next?” given the way things have gone…forever, it seems like.

Also, I just read the thread over at 850’s site talking about O’Brien’s saying that he was tired of injuries. It is utterly amazing the number of witless dumbasses who wear UNC shirts who claim that O’Brien was making excuses for losses that haven’t even happened yet. At 3-0, they are certainly crowing too, but give the light blue (or will it be Duke blue this week?) a loss or two and the basketball yapping will start forthwith. It’s a shame that the comments section over there has become IC-Light.

There was no track record of injuries at BC. In fact, it was the complete opposite up there as guys rarely missed games.

That is the good thing about hiring a coach with a track record.

I wish there were more State fans on 850’s blog as well. You make a comment and three hole fans are all over you.

As far as injuries go, down to only three or four starters out (i don’t know that Rashard Smith would have started in Morgan didn’t get hurt). I wonder if Javon Walker can be a good player for us this season.

question: Does the football coach get a say in the training hires?

  11. SeaWolf 09/25/2009 at 9:40 AM #

^Yeah, I’m pretty sure that it’s like an approval thing. O’Brien says who he wants, and then they get approved by an athletics board. Then they are officially hired. Given, this “board” is only going to turn some one down if they are black balled or they want way too much morning. Correct me if I’m wrong anyone.

choppack – obrien certainly had a hand in the dismissal of the head trainer (the short, tubby one named Jamie Coll) last spring. My brother did his grad school in sports med at NCSU and is good friend’s with Jamie. The story is that coach was not happy with Russell being held out of the second half of the bowl game, and this was the ax that fell. There is some speculation to that, but it is a good story to tell nonetheless.

clemson was 7-5 with two IAA wins, and yes they were higher in the pecking order than us. dont understand the logic. they went to a bowl that a typical “7-5″ish team would go to as i remember. my bias opinion says thats a travesty givin the strong finish we had last year…

observations from the USC game: garcia has started managing the ball better, but it looks as if he is learning to cope with his ineptness of looking down field, not developing into a good decision maker (the one realization i wish HB would have been humble enough to do). i`m still not going to say that he is a good QB. how bout that snead kid? what an awful showing for a “heisman” candidate. one would think that something would have been going on with him off the field to effect his performance. did anyone hear that all the power mysteriously went off to the entire ole miss sideline, and they were having to call a rag tag D for a series, with no help from the press box? how convenient….
i think USC deserves a little credit, i hate their red-neck fan base following, honestly, if you look at it, only 2 plays put us apart from us coming away with a W against them, and USC pulling the upset on a decent (but not usual) UGA.
thinking back to some of the games last year, and flashes i saw in the USC game, i remember the flashes of coaching brilliance that shocked me, ECU early on, and then kept going. i`m hoping to see that again tomorrow. we may be statistically/aesthetically close or even out matched, but leave it to our coaching staff to make the most out of it and pull something out. look at what that ragged usc O did to UGAs D. we only gave them one TD, and had them confused the rest of the night. ok, bed time. just drove up from ATL and ready for the game tomorrow…
