UPDATE: We just upgraded the site to the current version of WordPress.
Someone asked me the other day just how popular this site is, and I responded that SFN sees over 3 million page views from over 1 million unique visitors per year.
They scoffed. I laughed, because it’s just the facts:
- 1,379,634 visits from 11/27 2007 – 11/27/2008
- 3,161,563 page views from those 1.38 million readers
- 18.74% of those visitors are first time readers
For a blog, that’s pretty darned successful, especially for a single-team sports focused one that doesn’t use babe pics to drive up the hits. And best of all, those numbers above are very conservative — after I was promoted earlier this year and working some 70-80 hours a week for a while, no one noticed that the Google Analytics software that we use to track the site and create the numbers above wasn’t working for about a month. In other words, you can probably add at least another 8% to the stats and thus you have a true picture of where we are at.
If I may, please let me say thanks to each of you that take the time to log on over here and read what we have to say. I’d especially like to thank the folks that are regular members of the comments community that’s sprung from the idea of Statefans Nation — without a doubt, you guys are the best commenters that there are in ACC sports. Rarely do we have to moderate users — and I think I can count on one hand the times I have had to come in and delete or modify a comment because someone got out of hand. Considering that there are over 96,000 comments on the site, that speaks for itself.
That reminds me to remind you that if your comment disappears into the ether, it might be because there are some very strict anti-spam rules within the blog software. That’s because as a popular site we are attacked dozens if not hundreds of times a day by folks wanting to steal your attention and to stop that I had to put in some quite Draconian filters. If you’re a dolphin caught up in the tuna net, please don’t take it personally. I’m sure you would rather have that happen than have to read the dozens of ads for penis pills, porn, Nigerian princesses and amazing free money offers like winning Spanish lottery ticket numbers that you’d have to endure if our filters didn’t guard the place day and night with ruthless precision. As soon as we see it we’ll release your comment.
Last thing, it’s getting close to time to evolve the site once again, meaning that upgrades and enhancements are coming. I’ll let you know what they are as they happen and will appreciate your input and patience when that time comes.
In the meantime, again, thank you very much for coming!
