Virginia Tech Wins ACC Championship, but surely BC had fun

Tom O’Brien’s Boston College Eagles lost ANOTHER BIG NOVEMBER game today to one of the Big East’s powers when Virginia Tech took down the Eagles this afternoon, 30-16.

Wait. Check that.

Despite the pre-season proclamation of Boston College fans that their Eagles would finally shed historical late-year troubles without Coach O’Brien roaming their sidelines, “Coach Jags” ultimately lost two big games to “Eastern” teams – Maryland and VPI – and couldn’t turn the Eagle ship around in their big games.

BC in 2006: 10-3
BC in 2007: 10-3

Despite the loss, you can rest assured that all is well in Chestnut Hill because at least they had fun. Although we have no word if the couple of dozen BC fans that made the trip had any fun.

Boston College lost their big chance to go to a BCS Bowl with an ACC Championship today (in miserable Jacksonville) and because their fan base is so undesirable and unsupportive, the Eagles will now fall as far down the ACC’s bowl order as the rules will allow. (Let this be ANOTHER lesson to any potential recruit that would be considering Boston College over NC State, or any other ACC school for that matter).

With Virginia Tech now serving as the ACC’s lone BCS representative, SFN expects the ACC’s bowl situation to shake out as follows when everything is announced tomorrow:

Orange Bowl: VPI
Chik-Fil-A Bowl: Clemson
Gator Bowl: Virginia
Champs Bowl: Boston College
Music City Bowl: Florida State
Meineke Car Care Bowl: Wake Forest
Emerald Bowl: Maryland
MPC Computers Bowl: Georgia Tech

Nice fan turnout at Jax for BC by the way. Their half of the stadium was pathetic.

Although the BC Eagles lost, at least they had fun.

    BC last year 10-3
    BC this year 10-3

would be great if they lose bowl game and finish with a worse record than last year.

how fun would that be felipino?

d-ho, wouldn’t it be fairer to say that BC was 10-2 this year and 9-3 last? At least note that they qualified for the ACC title game this year.

btw, I’m bout tired of VT – been in the ACC 4 years and got 2 titles and a 2nd.

VPI is having the same kind of run as FSU did when they first came in – with out the total dominance. All in all, they aren’t a bad representative.

Meanwhile, the best team in the Old North State won again – App advances to the semi-finals. Exciting game – though not the last minute heroics of last weeks squeaker with JMU. Woffard or Richmond up next for THE Mountaineers.

I’m setting the over/under for BC fans at the Champs Bowl at 750.

How is App State the best team in North Carolina when they lost to Wofford, whom NC State defeated and they needed a miracle to beat James Madison whom UNC beat by 20+?

    Wake
    NC State
    ECU
    UNC-CH
    App State
    Duke

I always hate it when someone posts something unrelated to the thread but I’m going to anyway. During the USC vs. UCLA broadcast, the V Foundation was being showcased. They showed a clip from Valvano’s brother that was very nice. Terry Gannon is calling the game and he stated that he had the honor of playing for V. This was touching enough but then Gannon said that he had named his son James Thomas Gannon.

BC is a just a fun school.

Can’t wait to see their big fan turnout when they come to Raleigh next year.

    crissy,

it would be fair to say that if i was talking about regular season records, but what i am saying is currently their record is the same as it was to end the season last year and has a chance to be worse.

yea, kudos to them for getting to ACCC game.

the funny thing, is they were 2 hail marys away from being 8-4 this year and in Boise, and were a Daniel Evans hail mary last year from being in Jacksonville.

  11. chris92heel 12/01/2007 at 8:46 PM #

    d-blo,

Record also has a chance to be better.

What hail mary’s are you talking about this season, or have you been drankin? VT?

record should be better. left with a heisman QB and 19 returning starters, about as many seniors, and a woeful division.

………..especially since they got rid of that boring coach, who happened to be their winningest coach ever, and brought on Jesus H. Logan to run their offense.

    But they are having fun!!

I was having fun in 2002 when Chuck had his Heisman QB that fell in his lap, and we see how that ended up.

BC. Having fun in Nashville, baby.

SFN – it is going to be Champs in Orlando. The ACC rule doesn’t allow the loser of the title game to fall below Nashville…BUT, the “BC rule” also doesn’t allow a bowl to take a team separated by more than 1 game over another school. BC was 6-2. FSU was 4-4. Meaning Orlando CAN’T take FSU over BC. They have to take BC.

BC will be hurting without Silva, Ryan, Challenger, and Whitworth for next year. Those guys played superb this year. I thought Silva was especially sensational for them. I don’t think it will be much fun for BC next year to be honest.

  15. choppack1 12/01/2007 at 10:52 PM #

I wonder if there will be photos of the game. Va Tech didn’t travel as well as I thought that they would – and BC didn’t travel period. I don’t know if their side was 25% full – on the lower level.

Contrast this showing w/ the SEC and Big 12 – and well, it’s just humiliating. Good selection Swoff!

  16. choppack1 12/01/2007 at 10:53 PM #

This kid Chae Daniel is unreal. But, I know some folks don’t think so, because they’ve said you can’t be a QB unless you are 6-4.

  17. SuperStuff 12/01/2007 at 11:00 PM #

5’10” Joe Hamilton for GT was pretty damn good. I can remember this guy going to one of those NFL QB combines and beating all of them with his accuracy. Amazing QB.

There’s a good pic of the stadium on page 4 of the championship game thread on packpride….pathetic.

So they get Michigan/Illinois? in Orlando, and FSU and Auburn can play in Nashville. Sorry Champs Bowl, you lose. I bet this cost us(ACC) that tie-in when BC can’t sell half its tickets.

come on now StateFans, don’t rain on my parade! 🙂
Thanks for enough respect that you rated us above DOOK! lol
Too bad Wake canceled/didn’t renew their series with App – that could’ve been a great game.

Every weekend is different, that’s why you play it. I don’t think App could’ve beat Michigan mid-season, or at the end of the year. Of course, they probably would’ve continued to over look us. If App had played State the second or third weekend of this year . . . who knows?
App definitely escaped last weekend. We looked good today.

I still need everyone here’s good mojo for next weekend when Richmond goes to Boone. Think good thoughts – I’ve got reservations for Chattanooga already!

Speaking of fun. Watch as the BCS implodes. Hey, Ev did you ever stay in Frank Hall?

So what is the problem with the ACC Championship game? Is this the 2nd year in a row the crowd hasn’t shown up? You’ve got to figure that this hurts the league – national reputation for one, and television ratings both come to mind.

If I am only slightly interested in a game, I will turn it if the crowd isn’t there. It takes a lot of the fun out of it if you are vested in the game. So if folks just flip through, how much will ABC want to pay for this game in the future?

It seems to me that the basketball tourny took a few years to really take off, but this game looks like its going backwards. It seems to me we (the ACC) bet a lot on this football game and everyone has a vested interest in seeing it become a grand success – financially and otherwise.

So fellas, what are you thoughts?
Why aren’t isn’t this game drawing? (VTech is famous for traveling well aren’t they?)
Is it the town? Why do we play in Jacksonville? Warm weather in theory is attractive, but its not an ACC town . . . is it? Will moving help?
Is this bad for the league?
Is it possible for this to be a rip-roaring success a kin the SEC or Big-12?

asu grad here everett, my thoughts are as good as yours, go app!

    BeTHEredterror –
Yeah, talk about the BCS coming undone! WVU looked awful, and Pitt looked good. Roderiguez is seriously near tears here at his press conference.

I lived in Doughton (co-ed freshmen for the first time, verged on out of control all semester) and then Mountaineer Apts. I am pretty sure I dated a girl in Frank and spent a good deal of time there – but it might of been one of the other ones right there.
