I love the heart the team is showing through all of the losses and injuries. There’s no quit in them! While even winning out, the record this t=year will not be great. But there is a tremendous foundation being layed for the future!

  4. noah 10/27/2007 at 11:10 PM #

Today’s win means that that NC State…once again…won’t have a 10-loss season. We’ve never had one before, won’t have one this year.

    Take it where you can.

    Beowolf,

In the back of my blasphemous mind, I am seeing Shammond Williams hoist a three and hearing Woody scream…”and it takes a Carolina roll!”

I have seen 32 years of divine intervention for the evil ones. It will take more than one nice win to warm this jaded heart.

  6. noah 10/27/2007 at 11:28 PM #

And yet, my “stupid jesus” comment gets deleted!

    Tsk-tsk!

Ack! Was that the “Ennnnn Seaaaaa State NC State” cheer I heard at the end of the clip?

Amazing game, I thought both teams fought it out very valaintly.

One observation I had in witnessing this game is, what a football player Eugene is. He was in on every snap, he rushed it 23 times for over 100 yards , but that doesn’t even amount to his real worth.

If OL are thought of as guys that do the dirty work that goes unnoticed, then a RB that does the same thing must be invisible to the naked eye. Eugene stayed in a blocked, repeatedl, all night long. It was truly inspirational to see someone so dedicated to the idea of teamwork.

Other thoughts were that UVa monster OL had all they could deal with in reards of accounting for #49 in red Alan Micheal Cash “Money”. He made a ton of tackles tonight folks.

DE is hot right now, and the receiver corps is right in stride with him. There was not one dropped ball, and the only time I even saw I guy even bobble the handle was Blackman once on a short out (did he ever have some adventures out there tonight).

Great game, huge win, wild crowd. UVa was very much a class act, but could someone tell those caped band fools to chill? They played all friggin’ night, non stop. We had a moment during an official TO when they brought out Don Easterling (former head swimming & diving coach) and a past Wolfpack swimmers that went on to compete in the Olympics. You couldn’t hear any of it because that damn Wahoo band was playing “Ole Langs Eing” or something ridiculous.

Solid offensive gameplan, and fairly solid lineplay. They won’t see another defensive front that talented. Evans was efficient and smart, and Bowens is something special.

Defense was a little sketchy at times, but they didn’t give up as many big plays as UVa did, and they forced some turnovers. D-line was a monster in the second half.

I am impressed with the improvement, our guys are obviously working hard in practice and its showing up on gamedays. We could still end up 6-6 folks, this team is not done improving. The newfound success is a jumping off point, no doubt, but this season could still be pretty sweet for the Seniors!

I predicted 3 wins at the beginning of the season, but I gotta feeling we got at least one more win, maybe more! Way to go Pack!

Best part of the game was the reaction of the players after Daniel took the final knee. I think Marcus Stone was the best. Ran around jumping up and down and then ran over to thank the student section.

As we sat in traffic my wife said it all, “That was the first time I’ve had fun at a game in a long time.”

Great win and a team that will only continue to improve.

They won’t see another defensive front that talented.

On paper, there is not much difference between UVA and Miami’s DL numbers. Going into today, those two defenses were tied for sacks and UM has more tackles for loss.

i had to leave right when Sewell first went out and we forced them to punt…what a great game. That TD pass to Bowens for the go-ahead score was crazy good. DE had two back to back 330+ yd passing games.

  14. bTHEredterror 10/28/2007 at 12:50 AM #

Long and Copper would be that difference.

  15. blpack 10/28/2007 at 1:14 AM #

Great win tonight! State overcame tough spots again and this team is starting to show real grit. We aren’t there yet, but the numbers are looking better and better. Evans to Bowens ate their lunch.

What’s are recent record against UVA at home? I can’t remember the last time we lost to them at home.

Let’s keep that going! Excellent game, and yes, a fun time for most since probably the BC/FSU games last year.

evans has a great pedigree—was well coached in high school—and—with the giuidance of this fine new staff lead us to the transition year next season which will push our program to where we all aspire it to be—similar to the season that tob’s old squad at bc is experiencing now—over time—congrats daniel—go pack—spot the ball!

you know guys… I was in the student crowd for this one- and the chant was a LOT better then normal. It was a much shorter and defined N C STAATE! N C STATE!

I loved it. Great game. I hope we can keep this shit going!!!

Just saw Mark May award “David” Bowens a helmet sticker on Scoreboard Final. Someone should tell Donald to find this “David” guy and get his sticker back.

Seriously, how long has it been since someone on Offense did enough to deserve that kind of recognition?? Good job “David”.

I made the following comment a couple of weeks ago and got trashed by a lot of people on the message board (e.g. Noah). I hope that people will actually start giving Daniel Evans some credit rather than just thinking our team is “comming together” or “trying harder”.

“For clarification purposes: This team isn’t as bad as we think it is. It’s bad because TOB and NC State fans think/thought Harrison Beck is a good qb. TOB and NC State fans have given up on Daniel Evans for no apparent reason. As I say every week, Daniel Evans gives our team a chance to win. If you’ve ever played football, you know it’s demoralizing to have a qb who will turn the ball over at every opportunity. The team looks like dead fish after Harrison Beck throw’s his 3rd interception of the game.

NC state fans and TOB need to get on board and believe that Daniel Evans can lead this team.

And yes, i know Daniel Evans is no John Elway, but he can be a Trent Dilfer circa 2001 when he won the superbowl with the ravens. We just need someone who will keep us in ball games and give the players a chance to win.”

  21. vtpackfan 10/28/2007 at 9:47 AM #

I don’t think Dilfer ever sniffed 300 yards passing in a game that year, much less two in a row. Poor comparison.

AG – Evans looked shell-shocked vs. UCF – and Beck earned the starting job the next Saturday w/ his performance vs. UCF.

You know what you get w/ Evans. He’s very accurate when he can throw those short passes. He can also throw some of the routes he was throwing last night. But – and this a huge but, if the OL can’t give him time to make the proper reads, he can’t make plays w/ legs, and he can’t rely on his arm to bail him out.

The OL has made huge strides the last 3 games. Evans has also made improvements as well. Last night there were several plays when he dumped the ball off after UVa applied pressure and covered his first option.

I think this is the second great game in a row for Daniel. We’ve seen this before – we saw it last year. The key is our OL continuing to protect Evans and Evans being to try and not make plays when stuff isn’t there.

Overall, great team effort again last night. Marcus Stone is awesome. He’s a warrior and a great teammate. Great job by the staff again last night too.

One of the little things that I’ve seen that show that TOB is making a difference. Sportsmanship – I saw a lot of our guys helping UVa guys up, smacking them on the butt. The alma mater – not only do the players know we do this at the end of the game, but most of do too. Most of those in the lower level stayed for it last night.

    Hopefully, the progress continues.

    3 more thoughts
*Second game in a row w/ more than 24 points – when was the last time we did that??
*Second game in a row where we didn’t lose the TO battle.
*Play of the game may have been UVa’s offside on the kickoff that we fumbled and they recovered.

  24. vtpackfan 10/28/2007 at 11:37 AM #

“This team isn’t as bad as we think it is.”

AG- I’m not taking a shot at your logic, by no means, so if it seems like it then I’m just doing a poor job of comminicating. I respect your strong position on the matter and the faith you showed back then in the overall competitive level of this team. But, I think you need to take a step further back and see the forrest from the trees, then you could really enjoy the true magnitude of this turn around.

“It’s bad because TOB and NC State fans think/thought Harrison Beck is a good qb.”

Give me a break. Drop the signal caller issue entirely and you could come closer to pointing out reasons we were 1-5 then just focusing in on one high profile position.

“As I say every week, Daniel Evans gives our team a chance to win.”

Maybe this is taking your point out of context, but isn’t this what TOB and his staff are paid to do. DE is a student athlete, a solid young man, and someone who has been bought in from day one to what this staff has been trying to achieve. Again, no disrespect intended, just realize all the moving parts in this system, and stop analyzing one specific part. Enjoy the confluence of all the individuals who have a hand in this team. Who is Koyal George?

“If you’ve ever played football, you know it’s demoralizing to have a qb who will turn the ball over at every opportunity. The team looks like dead fish after Harrison Beck throw’s his 3rd interception of the game.”

How did the team feel after the UCF RB ripped off a 80 yarder to start the season? Is it not demoralizing to line up for a play completely out of position and then screw up assignments repeatedly? Our defense was terrible the first part of the year, do you remember the Clemson game. Terms like overwhelmed were used to descibe our competiveness level, not our tendancy to not stomach poor decision by our QB.

We were constanly playing from behind in every game, except Wofford, ECU, and UVa. Last night DE was near perfect, just one short armed throw into coverage for an INT. He still had about 20 incomplete passes on a night were he was very accurate and the receivers caught everything in reach. He was throwing those passes away. Now imagine how many more times DE would have to throw away passes if we were playing w/o the lead and w/o the threat of a running game. I think 15-20 passes to the Tuba player can start to smell like a Chineese fish market.

Again, keep the faith as you do AG, I love the spirit.
