Tarheel Football Excitement!

Calling the tech-savy, photoshopping-experts within our readership!!!

Overheard on Primetime with the Packlman between 4:54pm and 5:04 pm on the afternoon before the start of the college football season after one of the many NC State fans that have called the show today had finished a converation —

The first two hours (of the show) – all football. 100% football.

The lines are absolutely jammed. I mean slam jammed…

I haven’t received one phone call…or one email…from a University of North Carolina Tar heel football fan today.

– Mark Packer, radio host

Who wouldn’t want to go play college football for this ‘sleeping giant’? (ROTFLOL!!!!) I love the way the media spins the historical lack of support for Carolina’s football program as “cultural” as opposed to blatantly calling it out. Check out today’s piece in the N&O highlighting Butch Davis’ spearheading a ‘cultural change’ at UNC.

For almost a decade, the Tar Heels have played through the mediocrity of losing seasons and lackluster crowds. UNC last posted a winning record in 2001, and the team averaged only about 48,000 fans last season.

Let’s make sure that we emphasize that the 48,000 average attendance last year was:
(1) complete bullshit since we all know how grossly Carolina inflates its attendance numbers
and
(2) majorily impacted by the presence of NC State’s sellout visit to Chapel Hill

Warm wine, melted cheese, “Muffi what will we do?” Wait till cooler weather? “We could be 3-4 by that time, oh when will Basketball season ever get here?” Assholes, for gosh sakes get out and support what you’ve got.

Meanwhile, over on sister station 850 this could be heard from the “sheepishly” biased DG and Chris Clark.

“UNC was one of those rare teams that had great football and basketball programs ten years ago.”

Were they actually “great” DG? What was their record against nationally ranked opponents during this period for football prominence? How did they fare against Florida State in games their inflated ranking was put to the test.

My advice to the media is leave Butch alone and stop drooling over him. It’s starting to be the ultimate set-up, a.k.a Al Groh, where nothing could ever meet the expectation. Only difference is Butchy won’t stick around half the time Groh has already put in an UNX Charlottesville.

For context this conversation came about when a caller made comments that they (UNC) needed to be compared to the other “public ivy’s”, meaning Michigan, Cal, UVa.

You just have to love the slightly exaggerated memories some people have of Whiny Brown’s time in the hole. You never hear how DIck Sheridan owned him worse than Bob Stoops for 5 straight years and you NEVER hear that he could not beat a top 20 team his last 2 years in the hole. At that time the holes were really the only team in the ACC who had a realistic chance to beat Fla. State and they choked every time.

    GO JMU!
