Future NC State OOC FBall Schedule – ECU added in 2008?

July 20, 2007
Trout has chimed into the comments section of this entry with an update that – according to some close to the East Carolina football program – NC State has added a match-up with the Pirates to the 2008 schedule.

If this is true, then all I have to say is – Dammit, Lee Fowler!! For which school are you the f’ing Athletics Director? Why don’t you just bend over and let Terry Holland sodomize you for the whole world to see. This means that NC State will waste a f’ing football game helping build the program of a local competitor who consistently collectively spits in all of our faces for FIVE CONSECUTIVE SEASONS (2006-2010).

Breathe.

Now that is out of the way…Trout also proceeds to hypothesizes the following:

If true, one of these 3 things is happening:

(1) They have added 1 game to the original 6 game agreement and NC State won’t have a return game
(2)NC State will have a return game in the future, making a 6 game agreement now an 8 game agreement
(3)A future game scheduled to be played in Raleigh (2009 or 2013) is being moved to 2008.

I really think a future game in this series, scheduled to be played in Raleigh (2009 most likely), is being moved to 2008.

Why?

(1) I don’t think LF would add the 2008 game and then a return game. He likes to schedule ECU, but if you are doing home/homes, the 6 games we have is enough (plus, he heard it from fans when the 6 games was orginally announced) – he wouldn’t add two more games in the same original timeframe.

(2) I don’t think Terry Holland would agree to a uneven series, which if this game in 2008 is added and another game not moved, it would mean a 4-3 series.

My guess is that they are adding the 2008 game and moving the 2009 game to ECU from Raleigh. If true, it means NC State plays in Greenville 2 years in a row, 2009 and 2010, then plays in Raleigh in 2013 and in Greenville in 2016.

A pretty accurate composition of NC State’s future football schedules can be found by clicking here. NC State’s entire future OOC football schedule is included below:

NC State’s current Non-Conference Football Opponents:

2008: @ South Carolina (Thu/Aug 28/ESPN), William & Mary, South Florida (Sep 27), ECU?

2009: South Carolina (Thu/Sep 3/ESPN), Pittsburgh, ECU, Gardner-Webb (Sep 19)

2010: Cincinnati, @ ECU, Western Carolina

2011: @ Cincinnati

2012: Tennessee, UConn (home or away?)

2013: @ Pittsburgh, @Tennessee, ECU

2014: vs Oklahoma State, @ South Florida (Sep 13)

2015: @ Oklahoma State

2016: @ ECU

2017: LSU

2020: LSU

It’s great that we’re playing SC again, as these have always been some really fun games…on the field anyway.

Catching SoCar early in the season means catching their fans at the pinnacle of their “we’re going to win it all” fervor, which can be a little tedious to say the least.

One thing that we HAVE to do when they visit: replay Danny Peebles’ catch from ’86 on the Jumbotron. Heck, invite Kramer and Peebles and give them an award between quarters.

I glad to see this happen, but it’s gonna cause a split in my household with my son(the USC grad) and myself!

I think we also have Tennessee one of those years. The Pack will need another fill-up of Phillip and Mario.

Thanks for the clarity SFN. I saw different info from a much less trustworthy source, I wasn’t gonna trust it until I saw it from you all. Still solid and without Tenn in ’08 there’s a better shot at a high level bowl game.

    It ain’t App St
    It ain’t Western Carolina
    It ain’t Gardner Webb
    Drumroll please………..
    IT’S DIVISION 1 FOOTBALL!!!
Maybe I am biased as I am both a lifelong, MADE Wolfpack fan that happens to be a graduate of ECU, but come on….
Have any of you anti ECU cats ever met a UNC fan and heard their testimony on NC State? There are starting to be some eeeerrrryyyy similarities with a lot of these responses.
I’m all for becoming a national power, but you gotta crawl before you walk.
I hate saying this, but the Pack is way much more on par with ECU than they are with Ohio St and USC and Texas, etc.
I am the Tom Hagan of SFN.

Why are people shocked here??? We all know that the last time JED did anything bright he was 8 years old with a crayon in his hand and resisted the inner urge to shove it up his arse. !

No way do I believe he drove hiring Lowe. Someone else forced that, we just don’t know about it yet. We know about the FB hiring – he was politely told to stay the F out of the way !

It makes it more difficult to get national recognition and exposure when all you do is schedule OOC games withing a two state radius.

I’m sorry, but playing South Carolina does nothing for us out side of, well, North and South Carolina.

Scheduling ECU is simply inexplicable from an NC State point of view. I think Lee simply cares more about his reputation with well-known people like Holland etc. than he cares about NC State athletics.

For goodness’ sake, can’t we schedule someone from the midwest, or Big 12 country, or somewhere outside of out little neighborhood?

If teams like BC, and the Florida schools hadn’t joined our conference, then you could get to every State game on a moped.

  17. StateFans 07/20/2007 at 9:50 PM #

You don’t think that playing USC’s STEVE SPURRIER on ESPN to kickoff two consecutive football seasons doesn’t provide us any national/regional value?

  18. Dogbreath 07/20/2007 at 9:58 PM #

Until we can string together five or six years of consistent eight plus win seasons, I see no reason for the bitching and moaning about playing ECTC. Some of you act as though NC State is a perennial power.

News alert: the LSUs, Floridas, and So. Cals of the world look at us in the same vein as you view ECTC.

I see no problem with us playing ECTC every year. We should at least beat them consistently before complaining that they are beneath us.

SFN: Newsflash – your conclusions are absurd. But, we are going to keep them just to indicate that craziness like this exists.

  19. StateFans 07/20/2007 at 10:05 PM #

Why does Lee have so much loyalty towards ECU and not to App State? Aren’t they moving to D1 in the upcoming years?

  20. packpigskinfan23 07/20/2007 at 11:11 PM #

I am with Kool K… and I think I have made that know, however….

playing ECU THAT many years in a row is a bit insane. I know there are other teams out there that we could schedule. ECU IS NOT IN THE ACC.

it seems Lee is trying hard to get them in it.

maybe lee IS a smarter then we give him credit.
maybe he is thinking more along the basketball ranks that he is supposed to be ALL KNOWING in…. ecu gets in acc… and we murder them in BB every year.

    but screw that!

There are some on here who prove that they don’t understand the issue everytime that you open your mouth. The issue has NOTHING to do with being “on par” with ECU or other teams.

Do you realize that a decade ago, NC State had to cancel a series with UCLA to make room for ECU? (Of course you don’t, because most of you sounding off on the topic were like 12 at that time.) I don’t care if we are “on par” with UCLA. I just care that we don’t get to play that series that is MUCH more beneficial for our program than playing within the borders of our own state.

Playing the likes of SMU, UCF, Tulane, Purdue, Syracuse, Cincinnati, Houston, Memphis, Texas Tech &/or some school from the west coast offer our program significantly more advantages than playing App States, Western Carolinas, and ECUs of the world.

Instead of being creative and finding an interesting division I opponent Jed takes the EASIEST possible route yet again in scheduling ECU. ECU would agree to play us four times a year if they could. Its like taking the ugliest girl in school to the dance every time. I wish Jed would take a chance and aim a little higher for us.

While I agree in general with SFN here (though I do like the chance to beat up on the Pirates…their Ultimate team was consistently one of the least civil groups I’d ever played against, not that I did all that much playing)…guys…you’re pretty harsh on those who disagree with you, you know?
