Miracle in Raleigh

Wow. With the best Hail Mary since Erik Kramer beat USC on an untimed down in 1986, Daniel Evans enters Wolfpack folklore. The kid sure has poise, and can tear up a base defense. He can also read a defense like a 10-year NFL veteran. As long as he doesn’t get killed behind our still-porous offensive line, he could very well save this season.

In the end, the missed extra point, Ryan’s bobbled snap on 3rd and 1, and some questionable end-of-game management (single coverage on Dunlap – with a safety – WTF?) killed the Eagles. They had been living right in close games, and they finally got bit.

The road to the Atlantic Division title now clearly runs through Clemson, South Carolina. But it is without question a free-for-all.

It was also a special night for Johnny Evans. It was special to hear Johnny interview Daniel after his big game. It was amazing to hear how professional Johnny Evans handled himself during the game. Class act, couldn’t be happier for the Evans family.

It sure feels great to win a game like this for a change!

Just an absolutely unbelievable and exhilarating experience watch that young man fulfill a dream that was undoubtedly born in a dusty backyard somewhere around Brooks Ave. Shades of Rivers. The kid has ice running through the veins and was completely cool walking off the field after delivering the most exciting touchdown hail mary since Kramer in ’86.

Despite an absolutely wretched performance from our offensive line, and poor, POOR coaching decisions, Daniel Evans (along with Tank Tyler, Johnny Dunlap, and Earnest Jones among others) willed us to a victory.

That’s one that young Mr Evans, and his Dad, can take home to keep forever!!!

Let’s see Clemson beat, uh, somebody? Notre lost again. NC State and a first time starter at QB win at the last second.

Life is pretty damned good today!!!

Nothing comfortable about that game at all, but we just beat an undefeated and #20? Boston College!!!

Even without the incredible last second heroics, a much better football game than we’ve seen all year!!!

    ^Check that ND score again

  6. drhammondo 09/23/2006 at 11:42 PM #

Too quick to pull the trigger on that ND result “redfred”! What a game–actually–what a couple of games! The road to the Atlantic Division title actually runs through both Raleigh (especially v. FSU and v. GaTech) AND Clemson! But this will definitely be an exciting ACC season!

Let’s clean up some of the coaching mistakes and the aforementioned O-line play, and we’ll make a run at the division!

    Go Pack!

  7. Texpack 09/23/2006 at 11:44 PM #

Like his dad’s 2 point conversion run to beat Florida 8-7. My son was just saying before the pass he couldn’t believe how right I was about how crappy we are this year.

Way to go Pack! ….and we finally won a game wearing red pants with red jerseys! Had to happen sooner or later.

Congrats to Evans. He did a great job under adverse conditions.

Great interview with Johnny and Daniel…

Holy SHITE!! I’m so stoked I’m actually pissed I didn’t go to the game. Call me an arse, but I thought the game was over with the highschool performance of our offensive line. I’ve been abstaining from talking about the Pack for awhile because of my dissapointment, but I’ll be damned it this wasn’t a great game! I’ll always support them, but the negativity surrounding our program has me edgy and tonight felt like a clean slate. Let’s hope we continue to own FSU and don’t break down and only get beter. The coaching has got to get better…what the Hell was Chuck “the Chest” thinking by not calling a timeout towards the end of the first half. We have timeouts for a reason…Go Daniel “Helluva-First-TD” Evans! Made your pops proud. GO PACK!!

Wow. I feel like such a bad fan for bailing out after Daniel’s INT. With BC inside our 35 with 3 minutes left and 1 timeout, and the lack of our ability to move the ball in the 4th quarter, I didn’t think in a million years we’d be able to put together a game-winning drive. As I walked out of the stadium we’d just stopped BC on 4th down with about 40 seconds left and no timeouts. What a great win, and such poise for a young QB. It makes me wonder why he hasn’t been starting all year. Nice win, and a great feeling for a change!

Wow. Thank God. There’s nothing more to say. This one was beyond college football, folks.

has highlights if anyone missed the catch

  15. RickJ 09/24/2006 at 12:27 AM #

Great job by the ACC officials in reviewing the last catch by Dunlap that was obviously good. It just makes sense to be sure when the game is on the line on a final play. I hope they are not disciplined by Tommy Hunt.

Only 50 yards in penalties (according to espn). Which isn’t bad considering the personal foul in the 3rd quarter was totally bogus. (OL hit somone after the runner was down but as the whistle blew…I know I wasn’t the only one taught to play untill the whistle)

It also seems like Tank sitting the 1st quarter was a pretty good motivator, he made a bunch of great plays.

Like the senior Evans, I gave up on State too soon

    Glad I was wrong

Super crowd … excellent facility … gutsy performance

What a great game for our recruits to witness

A great weekend for JJ Hickson to visit, too. Hope he was there at the end.

I hate to be critical after a great and memorable pack win, but why did Amato send his kicking unit on the field when leading 16-15? Didn’t he see the FSU’s defense score 2 points after blocking an extra point kick last week? Just knee the ball down and kickoff.

  20. burnbarn 09/24/2006 at 1:11 AM #

^ Deranay has a pretty good record on PATs.

I was surprised we kicked the ball in bounds at the end. I would have skyed it out of bounds.. they get one play from the 35 to win.

It turned out well..it was fun to win a game like this and shame on those that left early.

Hey, we’ve not got easy, but we should be in all the rest of the games we paly, except Clemson, and if we play our cards right, and either GT or VT can bite Clemson for us, we can lose to them in Death Valley and still get er done. I know it’s just one game, but that is what I’ve expected all year. Happens on the same day the Holes get flatblasted. Priceless.

  22. C-Bull 09/24/2006 at 2:37 AM #

Awsome game, I just wish they’d let us tear down the goal posts. Everyone else does it and after a huge clutch win like this those posts defintely should be on hillsborough street right now.

  23. Lock 09/24/2006 at 5:42 AM #

    ^Re: The goalposts

My first year, I was with the goalposts as they hit a car driving by on Hillsboro. I remember hearing something about the school getting sued, but don’t know what resulted from it. They’ve been pretty anti-goalpost-attacks since then. Still, charging the field’s where all the fun is anyway. And I’m not sure beating a #20 team is goalpost-worthy, even in such a stunning fashion.

Regardless…awesome. Just awesome. God it feels good to have hope restored.

The good news: Seems like things are never quite as bad as they seem. The bad: Nor are they quite as good.

Great win last night. Gutty, heady performance by #7. Several times announcers said passes could not have possibly been thrown any better. Last int was 83’s fault.

We still have big issues with the O-line and linebackers, although D overall played pretty well last night.

Hate that James Martin got hurt…
