Preseason Poll

Logic doesn’t justify a preseason poll. Polls should not be based solely on factors such as last year’s record, returning players, coaches, schedule (for some pollsters), programs history, and certainly not on media hype. A poll must include on the field performance. Unfortunately, a preseason poll doesn’t allow that. Most people would probably agree that the polls really shouldn’t come out until several weeks into the season. However, because StateFansNation participates in an aggregated blog poll, we do have a preseason poll, and since it exists, it will be posted. Consistent with the explanation above, don’t be surprised if teams move around a lot in the first few weeks. Since the poll really shouldn’t exist yet, a team’s position relative to the previous week is irrelevant this early in the season.

    Seems entirely reasonable. Although I see Clemson losing 4 of their last 5, (the only win over us or Maryland). And imo, GT is better than VT and Clemson this year

    Seems like WV or Louisville, pick one, can be considered for a higher poll spot. One of them are going to run the table and be given a better spot by the end of it so why not set one up in the first place?

    We take pride in having our first few polls being extremely fluid and adjusting based on the team’s performances.

    For example – unlike the rest of the world’s polls – if West Va or L’ville look great and start making a case for themselves…we’ve got no problem rocketing them in front of other unbeatens whom we don’t think are performing as well.

    BC’s defense was abysmal, they should have lost. CMU just blew with that boneheaded trick play…

    BC looked horrible last night… CMU should have won that game… their true Freshman QB played great… his revievers were HORRIBLE. Williams dropped like 4 passes. I pick BC to be lower, if not OFF the top 25, Clemson to be higher, ND to be right were they are(if not higher)…

    all this talk of ND being overrated is in fact overrated… they have an amazing offense. Sure their defense isnt the best, but there is no reason to believe that it will be any worse then last years. Ohio State is set to have a good year, but they as well have some worries with defense… if ND is overrated, why wouldnt Ohio State be? do you guys really believe that Troy Smith is better QB then Brady Quin? or is it the recievers that make you feel this way? ultimatly it comes down to who plays the best defense… or who’s special teams play the best… I do feel that LSU could take the championship… watch out for WV!!!

    It’s hard to tell much from the first game with any program except the most experienced. Receivers will drop passes and running backs will fumble as punt returners do likewise, more often then not in the first game, but it was very nice to see that penalties were not an issue for N. C. STATE.
