Proud to Just Know the Man

Chuck Amato brought a special guest in to speak to the NC State Football team. This link will take you to some information about an amazing man.

Now…on to an amazing story of “small world”.

You see, Clebe McCLary’s daughter lived in the apartment in front of mine at 52 Magnolia (on Duraleigh Road in Raleigh) in 1995. She had been named something like “Miss Clemson” while in college.

Clebe spoke to football teams back then. His family were very good friends with Duke head football coach, Fred Goldsmith. Additionally, Clebe was close to Dan Reeves, and other well-respected football coaches. He used to speak to the Broncos before every season.

Additionally, Mr. McClary’s other daughter won “Mother-Daughter Miss USA” in 1991. This daugher also married Dan Reeves’ son. (Link)

My roommate and I met Mr. McCLary on the day that his daughter moved into her apartment across the hall from us. We met him because he was moving his daughter into the apartment…ALL BY HIMSELF! UP THREE FLIGHTS OF STAIRS. No kidding. The man was managing to carry everything she had up three flights of stairs in the middle of the summer…with one arm! He allowed us to help him with her mattresses, and that was it. He wouldn’t let us help with anything else. It was amazing.

What a small world. And, what a great way to learn that Mr. McClary is still going strong.

Isn’t Clebe the guy that lost a lot of his body (including an eye) in a war (Vietnam?)? I think I heard him give a motivational speech one time. If this is the same dude, then he’s a trooper. He wouldn’t give up on life even after much of his body was taken. He’s a big inspiration and uses the phrase FIDO a lot (forget it and drive on).

    SWEET. I like this dude.
