But, Davis isn’t the only NC State Basketball recruit who has been granted a conditional release from the NCAA’s Letter of Intent. (If you are interested or intrigued by the NCAA’s Letter of Intent procedures, you will like this website very much.
Two other recruits – Dan Werner and Dennis Horner – are still “out there”.
Make that one other recruit…because Dennis Horner has made it clear that he wants to play for NC State. The Charlotte Observer repeats The Wolfpacker and Pack Pride’s proclamtion that Horner is playing for State in this piece this morning.
N.C. State sent him a conditional release form from his letter of intent that allowed him to talk to coaches from other schools. He said he never signed the release, never re-opened his recruitment and plans to enroll and play next season as a freshman.
“I was just comfortable with N.C. State,” said Horner, a 6-foot-7 forward from Lincroft, N.J. “I didn’t care about talking to anybody else.”
Horner and his family were reassured when coach Sidney Lowe flew into Raleigh on Friday to meet with Louanne Horner, Dennis’ mother. (NCAA rules prevented him from meeting with Dennis).
A couple of parting shots:
* Horner is currently participating in the Tournament of Champions in the Triangle and seems to be playing very well. The N&O featured him in an article on Saturday (Link) after he scored 11 points in four minutes on the way to scoring 28 for the game.
* I hate the Charlotte Observer most of the time. I know that this is going to sound very petty against the backdrop of this single article…but their headline writers are absolutely horrible. Check out today’s headline for the Horner article:
Horner misses a dunk, but connects with N.C. State
* Puhlease. Horner misses one dunk in a couple of days of play (where he scored almost 50 points in two days) and the Charlotte Observer deems it worthy to be included in a very poorly written headline? Again, THIS by itself looks petty. But, I assure you that this kind of “coverage” runs consistent throughout the Observer’s ongoing coverage. Want to argue?
