Don’t look now…but NC State has a very important basketball game against the University of Miami on Sunday in the RBC Center.
Gregg Doyel ranks the game as one of the ten best of the weekend, also stating that the games this weekend are “crummy”. Herb Sendek is 0-1 against Miami after losing in Miami last year, providing the historic first ACC win to the Hurricane program.
As for this year’s encounter, Section Six does a super job of previewing the game.
Doyel also shares some insight into the national view of the Atlantic Coast Conference and NC State’s position this year of being one of the “gelatinous mass in the middle”. It wouldn’t be as frustrating to any fan base to be “in the middle” of the conference in the 1oth year of a coaching tenure if said coach would have won at least a single championship and earned an ACC Tournament bid better than 4th more than a single time in 9 previous attempts. But, after finishing 7-9 last season (7th in the ACC), it would be nice to be competing at the top of the conference and not in the “middle” of the conference….again. Don’t argue with me about it; argue with Doyel.
Miami at No. 21 North Carolina State: The ACC’s gelatinous mass in the middle continues to take shape in the league opener for both. Miami point guard Anthony Harris (foot) is back after missing all three of the Hurricanes’ non-conference losses. Is he good enough to lead Miami past the Wolfpack? I can’t emphasize enough how important the next two weeks are going to be for NC State’s 2005-2006 basketball season. The Miami game is the first step in eradicating the foul taste of the Iowa game and building some momentum for January.
