ZaphodParticipant
I think what frustrates me most about this team (and for the most part, all of Gott’s teams) is the lack of fundamentals in some pretty basic areas. I spent about 10 years coaching 10-12 year old girls, and it usually took me about 1/2 a season to get them to run the pick-and-roll…I watched the Utah-Colorado game that followed the Virginia game last night, Utah was running the pick-and-roll over and over…the wings would pull out away from the basket with the center at the top of the key, leaving no one in the paint, and the guards would dribble past the pick and then lob the ball to the wide-open post player for easy layups. BJ can’t do that??? And we suck at using screens…you’re supposed to touch shoulders with the player setting the pick, force the defender to either foul or go under the pick (which WE do all the time, giving up wide open jump shots). But we leave two body widths between the pick and the dribbler. WTF??? It seems like once the defense makes adjustments to our offense, we have no plan B…and we end up taking jump shots.
ZaphodParticipantI offer this to the proletariat because it’s Friday and Denver made me happy: You’re welcome.
I like your taste in music….oh, yeah, women too!
ZaphodParticipantHaven’t seen any info to date, but both Bo Hines and Marquez Valdes-Scantling left the game last week due to injuries, Hines early on, and Valdes-Scantling in the 4th quarter. That’s our #1 and #4 receivers, and #1 and #2 wide receivers. Any info on their statuses for this weekend?
ZaphodParticipantSorry I hadn’t posted full thoughts sooner, but I concussed myself over the weekend (in true Kosmo Kramer style) and have been scrambly in the brain.
What’s the matter? Brady Hoke put you back in the game too early? 🙂
Sorry, BJD, I just couldn’t resist!
ZaphodParticipantFrom the last possession of the first half against Old Dominion, until the middle of the 3rd quarter today, State scored touchdowns on 12 of 14 possessions. That is an incredibly efficient offense. Great game for the Pack.
ZaphodParticipantHope the boo-birds are watching…this team has improved a lot!
ZaphodParticipantFirst ever post, long time reader, State fan since I was old enough to understand sports. Saw games in Riddick as a child, was in Reynolds when DT returned from his fall in the NCAAT, standing in one of the entrances because my dad and I walked in at halftime with no ticket…
Was going to post last week about how NC State Fans appear to just totally suck in the new millenium, but decided against a negative first post. So here’s a more positive first post…
I saw a team last night that was still very young on defense, but had made huge strides on offense. We had the ball 4 times in the second half, and scored touchdowns on all 4 possessions. We had 9 total possessions in the game and scored on all but 2, and one of those was the missed field goal. Brissett to me seemed very in control of the offense, and the o-line was blowing ODU off the ball the whole 4th quarter. And Shadrach’s last touchdown, he ran right through the ODU defense. Someone posted earlier that the S&C coaches should be rewarded, and they were right. We have finished both games this season clearly stronger than the other team.
Biggest stat of the game to me? 1 penalty for 5 yards. The whole time TOB was here, we got as many stupid penalties as we did when Amato was the coach. Anyone remember the game three years ago when we had 9 defensive offsides penalties against Miami? This team plays with discipline, and efficiency. One turnover, and 5 total penalties means they are not beating themselves, and just that change alone means I see improvement.
I hope the defense gets better…it needs to. But the offense has already gotten very good. And they are not beating themselves. Doeren has already made progress in my book.
