Yep Mc, I was screaming at the tube on that first drive (and two others). Get that close and forget who brung you to the dance. That does need fixin’. I wonder what the heck happened to JaySam when we got that close (and other times too, I thought maybe he’d gotten dinged up).
One would think somewhere, somehow they could find a kicker, go steal one from the pro soccer team. If I wuzn’t almost 65 I’d dust off my cleats and ask DD for a shot at it. Was decent at it back in the day. AT any rate I never missed inside the 30, but that was a LONG time ago.

YogiNCParticipantLouisville by at least 20.
State flubs the 1st half, down by 21 at half. Nice 3rd quarter and narrows it to 13 points. Late pick by Louisville seals the deal, 41-20.
Mc, it’s uncanny that the result was almost exactly the opposite, THANKFULLY. I was impressed by DD during the post game interview. That guy really loves his team, and face it doubters, it is HIS team. I remember what he said after his first win against UNX about being a blue collar team. This win was just that, burly MEN kicking BUTT!

YogiNCParticipantluke laloosh: “I’m just here to help the team”. “you win some, you lose some, and some days you get rained out”.
Well we didn’t get rained out last year in spite of a hurricane, Watched the last of that sucker on generator power. Here’s to not being on a generator tonight. I’m hoping the Carter is a rockin’ and somebody on defense crumples that QB just like the ND QB got crumpled in the 2003 Gator Bowl. Now THAT would be FUN!

YogiNCParticipantRed & White have been his colors from the start. Frasier never did get off the bench. That’s sad.
I’m hoping Hines has another big game tonight!!!!

YogiNCParticipantClemson gave us the game plan, we just have to make it happen. LJ is beatable, and from my perspective our D is much better than UNX and they held him in check for most of the first half. If we can accomplish that we may get a lead and that would be huge. Every time da ville lost last year it was when they fell behind and scrambled to recover. We need the lead and we need it quickly. That will be the difference IMO. And crush LJ if you get the chance. A mean sack or two could be a game changer.

YogiNCParticipantI’d be pretty shocked if that’s true. Was there even one single poster who called you stupid (much less “all you heard”)?
While the word stupid may not have been used I can attest that Grey and I both were blasted pretty heavily for our beliefs that DD was going to be successful. And for some of the things that were said blasted is a mild word to describe it from my perspective. Last year’s team was really close to being very successful and while this years team still have some things to prove one would think that optimism should have replaced some of the constant pessimism that DD was the absolute worst hire in the history of the program (yes, there are posts out there that say that almost word for word). And if you don’t believe that there was great derision towards those of us who felt the Pack could be successful under DD I can pull up plenty of those posts also. That’s one of the reasons I had pulled back on posts, I just tired of it plus my companies success put me under a PILE of work for our new customers.
I’ll add that for two really bad instant reply screw ups and one totally missed blatant pass interference penalty deep in the gamecocks territory we could easily be undefeated right now. BUT, it is only midway through the season, and we lost a valuable running back Saturday. My optimism is matched with crossed fingers that no more injuries occur and that we GET the breaks instead of losing them. Pure unadulterated luck can have just as much to do with a successful season as can hard work although preparation and hard work make it easier to overcome bad breaks. Believe me Clemson got REALLY lucky when we missed that FG in the closing seconds. That’s the difference between national champs and not even playing in the game, a field goal that went wide right or left, I can’t recall which exactly.
I’ll also add one more thing. If anyone doubts about the negative effects of Canada as our OC I give you LSU. Canada went to Pitt and had the benefit of one of the best backs in the country and only had a middling year at best but he was able to parlay that into the LSU gig. He won’t be there long. The GEAUX tigers bunch will skewer and roast him at one of those famous tailgate parties.

YogiNCParticipantSorry rt, I’ve just endured too many negative posts from what is supposed to be a FANS site FOR NC State. It really got to be old after a while. Now that they are being somewhat successful I guess it’s too much to expect those who have derided them to back off a bit, first amendment or not. When those of us who continued to support DD and felt he was building something here that could be successful all we heard was a blast that we are stupid to support him. So I say time to either support him and the team or quit calling yourself an NC State Wolfpack fan. Simple as that. Either you’re with us or agin’ us, and if it’s the latter then quite simply, why are you here?
Smarter than the average bear
YogiNCParticipantNow that’s Funny!
No, no it’s not. For all of the derision spewed out here against DD he FINALLY gets his team in the top 25 and instead of being happy for the team AND NC STATE someone has to beacht about that. UNSAT! Be happy for the team, be happy that they are enjoying a measure of success. In the top 3 IN THE LEAGUE, not just in our division! Week in and week out I’ve read the negative comments and now it’s time to STOP with that crap. Now, I know fully well that things could go south in a hurry, that the game of football, BUT for today we are # 24. In the top 25, PERIOD! Suck it up and stop with the negativity for the time being and celebrate the success. IOW, if you can’t say something nice don’t say anything at all.

And don’t let ’em grow too big, the skin is much more tender the smaller they are. My garden has exploded, my second crop of corn is just starting to form ears and the purple hull peas are everywhere in two of my beds. Maters galore, that 30% shade cloth is da bomb! That Serendipity corn is one really sweet hybrid. Bought a vacuum sealer just for the corn and about 1/3 of a freezer is already full with it. Most of the next crop will be give aways and quick cook. I could eat that stuff for every meal. The other day I ate an ear right off the stalk, was like eating candy. Can’t get fresher than that. Hot peppers are doing the deed too! I love having fresh veggies!

YogiNCParticipantThe Dead were always a great concert draw. Heck, in 1989 I had hundreds of Dead Heads camping out across the street from my house in Saratoga Springs the night before their concert at SPAC. While their fans are true fanatics in every sense of the word they are not that great in numbers comparatively speaking. Back in the day, record SALES and as a result radio air play, is what drove the concept of who was/was not great.
Off the top of my head I can think of at least 50 bands/artists who most people would name before they even thought of the Dead. That being said, I have a great affinity for “Drivin’ that train” and “sugar magnolia”. And BTW, I saw the Dead when they had their Wall of Sound. Today’s sound systems can generate much more power that the wall did, but for it’s day it was REALLY impressive.

YogiNCParticipantRobert Hunter IMHO is one of the best song writers of all time.
I will agree that Hunter has written some great songs however, as with all things greatness is measured most times in terms of commercial success. By that standard I dare say he probably wouldn’t scratch the top 100.

YogiNCParticipantHe was sued and lost the copyright infringement case for My Sweet Lord
And that was ON A FREAKIN’ 3 NOTE RIFF. NOT! Carol King had no right to that, she actually ripped it off from two other songs. And the judge decided that it wasn’t relevant.
Now to be fair there was a ton of talent in that band. And it is hard to argue that the only song writing duo/trio that even comes close to Lennon/McCartney is Holland-Dozier-Holland, and they WERE Motown. I could never stand McCartney’s lyrics, some were almost infantile (Uncle Albert, Let ’em in, Silly Love Songs, I could go on…) but when Lennon was there to temper it they had some AWESOME stuff. Revolver is an off the scale great work. And NO ONE ever came close to what they did with controlling the top 5 spots on the billboard hot 100. Later on after the band broke up Lennon was upset with himself in that he and Paul did not collaborate more with George.
Now, one more thing. All of those great songs that were mentioned that George wrote. Take a wild guess who contributed a ton of talent AND insight/writing to almost every song that George did that was a ‘hit’. Eric Clapton. Clapton actually wrote a good deal of While My Guitar Gently Weeps, and if you listen closely the rifts in What is Life are right in your face (that is one of my all time favorite songs, Layla being my all time #1. Some of George’s best stuff was also with the Traveling Willburys. BTW, the name of that group came about when the discovered some stuff that would be considered mistakes on some of the takes. George said “We’ll bury it in the mix”, and thus the name was born.

06/21/2017 at 11:21 AM in reply to: It's Time to Plow and Time to Plant — Spring 2017 Garden Thread…. #123222YogiNCParticipantBotb, I put my maters down the center of 2 of my raised beds and the peppers near the edge. I put DIY drip irrigation down the center so the maters get the majority of the water when I’m feeding water to the beds. I currently have cayenne’s galore. Also put my onions and shallots down the edge, never seen them do so well in the summer. The shade is the trick from what I see.
On another note my serendipity corn will be coming off within the next week, I can’t wait. That’s the best corn I’ve ever eaten, bar none. Peas and pole beans are climbing up the corn. My pickling cukes are exploding too! Those are my favs. The 4th ought to be a celebration of food from the garden, which it should be.

I built a frame over 2 of my raised beds that have the maters in them and put shade cloth up and I have more on the vine than I can ever remember. The frame is going to be my making of a greenhouse when fall comes. Also put peppers and a few other things with the maters and they all are going like gangbusters. Must be something to that shade thing.

YogiNCParticipantIf they’re good then pile ’em on a bus and get ’em down here! I’ve heard some pretty good things about that QB too. His timing in coming to State will be perfect for an opportunity to start early in his career (red shirt included).
Smarter than the average bear
YogiNCParticipantfrom my perspective TOB was/is a fine gentleman, BUT, his results with TWO NFL caliber QBs was not stellar to say the least. Take away those two and no way he wins more than 4 that next year. NO WAY. I still say he would have been lucky to win 1, but that’s my opinion.
Say what you want but in 4 years DD now has people talking about State in a positive light. From a D that couldn’t play with anyone to the one no one wants to play is quite a distance traveled in that time span. We were also a kicker away from defeating the national champion and a top rated team. And just so it is clear, BC was a top rated defensive team last year. We laid an egg at da ville, but then again that QB made FSU look like chumps big time. As the old saying goes “it’s relative”, from where I sit an inch or two here and there and it would have been a really good season. But then that’s just my perspective.
And BTW, no one else was in that conversation with Howard Baum, what I saw and heard from him was anything but the company line. Whether you like DD or not there are a lot of people inside the lines at State that like him a lot, and see him as being very close to being considered a successful coach. Consider this, since 1994 the best year we had was 10 – 3, and that was with a NFL hall of fame caliber QB and a load of other talent. All of the other years were middling at best, and yet to hear it the detractors would have us believe DD was the absolute worst coach we’ve ever had. Nope, not even close, and I’ve been around long enough to see the worst. And the second worst, and the third worst.
