Actually pak NCDENR is partly to blame because they did not enforce the rules even though they knew the plant had problems (and this has been going on for more than a few administrations so don’t go blaming the current guys for this). Today there is being an investigation launched into it.

Nope, sorry pak, the grid is the grid and it’s been around now for over 80 years. ALL service end points (your meter on your house) get’s their power from the grid which is made up of EVERY power generating facility on the grid (it’s how electricity works). Just because you have a nuclear plant in your back yard does not mean you get any more of your power from it than the plant’s total contribution to the grid. In the case of Shearon Harris that amounts to about 0.88% of total load from nuclear power, so you get less than 1% of 19%, or about 0.2% from the plant just down the road.

Bill, I’ve not seen any maps but the plant was located right near the VA NC state line on the Dan river.

Sorry pak, wrong again, your power comes from the grid. The grid gets its power from every collective power source in the US of which only 19 percent is nuclear. Almost 70 percent is fossil fuels with coal being the highest at almost 45 percent. Just because you live near a nuclear power plant does not mean your get your power from it. It’s the way the power grid works.

I see cyclical data. Like I said MORE than 100 years. MUCH more. You have less than 100 years of instrumented data and even with that it isn’t mean instrumented temperature of the whole earth. Oh and BTW, most of the data before 1900 is extrapolated data from other methods which is all over the place. One of my favorite sayings is “Statistics lie”. The actual meaning of that is anyone can form a paradigm with statistics that prove whatever they want it to prove. The difficulty is NO ONE can produce statistical means for determining earth temperature for the last say 1000 years because there are too many variables which can affect mean worldwide temperature. The fact that we experienced an ice age from 110,000 to 12,000 years ago. If you really want to talk about global warming how about looking at the data from when the ice age ended and what caused it to end. The fact is the earth has gone through cycles from ice ages to being almost completely arid many times, the causes of which HAVE NEVER DEPENDED ON SOMETHING MAN DID, because man did wasn’t around then. Current conditions and causal effects may have nothing to do with ozone gases or any other man made catastrophe that you can dream up. I’m sorry but Al Gore just wanted to make a buck, and he did. The man with the carbon footprint 10 times larger than the average American and 50 times larger than the average human being is a sham.

MAYBE when someone can present a credible study with ACTUAL FACTUAL data (not screwed the pooch data like has been used before) then it can become fact. Until then it is what it has been, SPECULATION. Me personally, I’m with foose, we’re just one the downslope from an ice age. Normal cyclical stuff. Ebb and flow. Ying and Yang. Last summer was the coolest I can remember, and rainiest, in a long long time. So far this winter has been brutal for us but I also remember the winter of 71 when we had a two week stretch when it didn’t get above freezing AT ALL. So what does that say about global warming in my mind… its all anecdotal near term data. NO ONE has presented CREDIBLE FACTUAL DATA!!!! LONG TERM (greater than 100 years) DATA. For a planet that has been in existence for 4.5 BILLION years (yep 10, count them, figures, but much less than the debt Obama has added just in the last month) data for 100 years is a very short glimpse but I’d take it. All it would take is one good volcano explosion to drop our temperature 3 degrees for a year or more. I’d prefer that volcano be one outside the US. Yellowstone could screw us big time.

Stick, thanks for the share. Even though few of us know Wilson personally this article describes to a T my perception of who the young man is. My hope is he may run for president one day. If he does I hope I live to see it and vote for him.

While living in upstate NY woke up one morning to a full inch of ice. Busted my butt twice getting from the front door to my truck. Had to hold on to the antenna to scrape the glass. As i pulled out of the driveway to head to work I decided it was prudent to only ride on automatic choke. 2 miles from work I topped a hill that had a 1/2 mile shot to the bottom of the hill. At the bottom of the hill was a 4 way stop. In the left ditch was 5 cars, the right had 4, obviously people who decided to use their brakes. I never touched mine and screamed in my head “look out below I’m coming through”. Luckily no one challenged me for the right of way at the 4 way (no one else was coming). Got to work and about an hour later one of the guys who worked for me finally showed up. He made the point that I had blown right past him in his time of need. LOL.

Grey, being that I SERIOUSLY doubt I’ll be around after 3 more generations I considered it a moot point. Sorry to disappoint!

I think Russell will always be RUSSELL. Men of great integrity, which he is one of, rarely change who they are. And yes, there are men who appear to have the integrity but don’t, however Russell is not one of those. To me I think the day may come when you see his bust in the HOF, and he will be just as humble that day as he is today. Never once have I seen him EVER do anything that would indicate selfishness or self centeredness. Is he going to make a lot of money? Someday, YEP! My bet is you will see a philanthropic side of him develop that will rival anyone else in sports. Just my 2 cents worth.

This is something that should be RAMMED down the throat of Swoff and the ACC office. This is BLATANT. This is pure statistics and there is no way they can dispute the disparity. Someone should “inform” AD Yow with this info. Worst case she could get some engineers with a statistical background to double check the numbers.

I remember Mahhhvin had said something to the effect he was going to “spill the beans”, maybe it’s time to subpoena him. If i was the trial lawyer I’d sure as heck do that and then depose him. Oh this could get REALLY nasty. I’ve been saving a bag of popcorn for a long time to see this. I also think it’s time for the legislature to get involved and change the BOG makeup so that it wouldn’t be so UNX centric.

My brother in law offered up this as a plausible problem Roy is having this year. He continues to send out emails of the game plan, problem is all those guys with only 3rd grade reading level can’t read ’em. I got a big laugh out of it and just could not resist sharing it.
