Va, the problem is this whole discussion has been opinions. There is no quantitative measure of quality in terms of wins. There are those who feel at this point in time every win is a good one. Considering the dearth of talent and experience on this team valid arguments can be made to that extent. Others feel we have made a terrible mistake in hiring DD. My personal take is that he deserves a reasonable amount of time to get the job done. I’ve been involved in data mining and process improvement for over 20 years. The one thing I learned through all of it is that one person’s glowing report is another’s chicken little’s the sky is falling. I just tire of the watching the sky at every turn without giving the man a chance to prove himself.

And say what you want, but there were people taking shots at me in this post. My stand was I had quantitative data that said GSU is a good program and the veracity of attacks was pretty strong. Not one in the conversation said that I may have a point, just that I was hosed up (paraphrased) for thinking the way I do. It’s obvious others can take exception to what I think but I can’t do the same. Sorry Rick but if that’s what SFN has become then I think I’ll just take a hike. BTW, my bet is you’ll see others who share my feelings and will do like wise.

So I’m not allowed to say I feel someone is being overly negative in their view of NC State?

I can live with that, if you were inferring to me . If it was the idiocy I’m afraid I’d have to cry foul.

I would steer clear of questioning anyone’s fanhood. That’s all

Considering some of the things I’ve read lately on this board, sorry but I can question it.

Never said you weren’t as big a fan, just that I had seniority, and that should count for something. I’ve been there, done that, for longer is all. And no one that I’ve read said GSU was as good as … in the power 5. By the same token when you look at their body of work over the years in their division they have been as good as it gets. No one said they would be in the top 25, BUT they are not the typical team that moves up to FBS. That team is REALLY good for where they are today. They don’t have their full complement of scholarships yet and yes the Sun Belt isn’t a power 5 but mark my word, I’ve been familiar with that team for over 40 years (lived in their neck of the woods in the mid 70s) they are going to be a team that anyone who plays them will have to bring their A game. They are the real deal when you look at teams that consistently are winners. I felt the remarks were derogatory to their body of work and to their level of competition not only through the years but this year also, and I took exception to it. Whether this group knows it or not foose knows football and he knew just as much about this team as I do. Whether you feel they were a quality win or not is a matter of opinion, but if you make a judgement I think it should be an informed judgement. I felt they were getting dissed because no one knew anything about them (which has more truth to it than any other explanation IMO) and felt they were just a wanna be.

My fanhood has been tested more than yours.

LOL, while I will give you that you have experienced more valleys than hills. I will also say for those of us who have seen the mountain top it makes it that much harder to be down in the valley. My first experience was riding 3.5 hours to the Dixie Classic when I was 6 and I was hooked, and have worn Red & White ever since. That’s almost 60 years being a fan, so by virtue of time I feel some of us old timers wear a few more “stripes”. And pardon me in advance for this one but I also tend to see us old timers having a slightly different view on being a fan in that we tend to overlook some of the short comings of the program. I may be wrong in this assumption but I’d be willing to bet I’m not the only one from the “senior group” that sees a large contingent of cynicism in the younger crowd. Sorry if that’s the case and I just tend to call it out when I see it. However I will never apologize for being a die hard Pack fan and defending what I consider derision of my team. Some would refer to that as loyalty to the cause. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

First, I have not thrown a parade, but I did try to inform those who I felt were being derisive of a program that I know to be a top notch program, AND at the same time to minimize the derisiveness towards State. that within itself has gotten under my skin lately. And wulf, if you felt I was calling you names I apologize, I was describing what I perceived as a mindset. As one who has probably been a State fan 20 years longer than you or GoPack have been alive I’m tending lately to have exception with those who want to wear that hat without earning the stripes. To me there is a shift way too much to the walmart variety of fans on here. I have always felt, maybe wrongly, that State fans tend to be truer than those of a lesser school to the west. And trust me, I’m pretty sure I’ve seen many more hills and valleys than either one of you, it’s why I say “if you don’t like where the bus is going you’re welcome to get off at the next stop, otherwise just sit and enjoy the ride as best as you can because you ain’t driving the bus”.

Wulfpack, you should change your screen name. Think about this, by belittling a team that State beat AND a win that helped make us bowl eligible (which btw is a big plus for the program in numerous ways), and that many view a positive win, you are in effect belittling State. THAT is the part you do not recognize, AND THAT is the part I’m tired of. This is supposed to be a site that SUPPORTS NC State athletics, instead there has been a shift by a large number to want to tear it down! And your demeaning of every win on our schedule demeans the team as a whole. If you don’t want to support NCSU I think you should GO SOMEWHERE ELSE! This is supposed to be State FANS Nation.

Sorry Gopack but Ga Southern is not the same as NCCU, not even close. I’m not crucifying anyone but rather telling those who are blasting their record to look it up. App St had a good run for a few years but Ga Southern has been excellent for a LONG time, not in terms of years but DECADES. Going into that game I was hoping we’d win, and we just did, and for good reason. Ask Ga Tech how good they are, I bet that bunch would call them a quality win. I think it is pompous, to the level of “the carolina way”, to demean that program in light of their achievements. I’d wager a lot of money that if you’d ask coaches about that team you’d get a vast difference of opinion than what this thread has produced. Tell you what, go to the DD radio show this week and ask him if he’d put that one in the quality win category. Presby and USF, nope, GSU, HECK YES.

I’ll tell you why wp, the incessant large amount of negativity. The Bitch1ing and whining just becomes too much to deal with. There’s enough of that crap in real life. I get tired of those who continually have nothing but bad to say about EVERYTHING! And this thread is the perfect example. Someone posted how well that team was doing and immediately the nay sayers and the whiners started belittling them. Ga Southern has a tradition of excellence AND they have the records to prove it. And I don’t care if you are playing pee wee ball if you have the record they have it is considered excellence.

I for one feel they should be commended on their striving to move up a level AND that even though they may not be up to SEC level of competition they’ve done a pretty good job of holding their own during their first year. When it comes right down to it the ACC teams they have played haven’t blown them off the field this year, as a matter of fact State and Tech struggled to beat them.

I find it is far too easy in this medium to find fault AND to bring others down. Things are said here that would never be said to someone to their face, and that to me makes those who would hide behind this curtain pretty chicken $H!T if you ask me.

So I guess 6 national championships is nothing. You have no idea what that program is all about. While they are still in the process of moving up a notch they just had a bad day. And while they do not play in a top notch conference they will move up. Lemme see, they took Ga Tech to the final minute and lost on a screwed up call by the replay officials. And last time I checked Ga Tech is in line to play for the ACC championship. Even if Ga Tech hadn’t won that game they would still be in line to play for the crown in the ACC and Ga Southern would have beaten one of the top teams. Oh yeah, one other thing, had we not beaten them we still would not be bowl bound.

So what! Any and every team can have a bad day. Miss St is getting wiped by the Tide, I guess they are pretenders too. TCU is just getting by Kansas (a school that should stick to BB).

^^^ Me too foose. Here’s a question for “those” people. How many championships has Ga Southern won in football? Take a guess, any guess more than one, and it’s more than just about all of the ACC teams, and their total championships is SIX, how many programs can say that? That is a program of excellence, has been for a very long time. The fact that they moved up to FBS AND they really should have won the Ga Tech game if not for incompetent ACC officials (how many times have we seen that?) is evidence to me that they are much better than the conference they are in. Add this to the mix, they aren’t up to the allowed scholarships (only 77 on this years team). Oh, one more thing, their coach happened to be a really good coach also, his prior team played for the national championship the last two years he was there. Yeah, it may be their first year in FBS, but their only losses were to two ACC teams and they just did lose to both of those. Cupcake THEY ARE NOT!

You yahoos just don’t get it. 2/3 rds of this team have LESS than 2 years experience. Basically think in these terms, build a pro team out of rookies and second year players and see what you get. That’s what expansion was in the NFL before free agency and those teams SUCKED FOR YEARS. No amount of realignment can change where we are in terms of talent. DD is coaching a junior college team in terms of experience. Think about that in terms of leadership too. These kids are growing up on the field when most college teams grow their players in practice. We have no seniors or juniors to speak of, and certainly next to no RS seniors. Unless you’re a superstar out of high school there is a steep curve playing D1 ball, in terms of knowledge and skills and strength, and even the superstars don’t make it onto the field for a year or two sometimes (think Alabama et. al.). I saw this process taking AT LEAST 4 to 5 years, but in the day and age of instant gratification there are those who continue to have TOTALLY UNREALISTIC EXPECTATIONS.

These results are TOTALLY acceptable. Disappointing, yes, acceptable? TOTALLY. 8 years ago Duke had a year just like we had last year, and it took them until last year to be really decent. Took Cutcliff that long and he’s one of the sharpest knives in the drawer as evidenced by selection as coach of the year NATIONAL! Ummmm how many times have we had one of those? We haven’t even had one to make the short list. And it took him 7 years. And you guys are expecting miracles in the second year! You should have hired Mother Teresa, you’d have had a better chance (inside joke for inside help). And let me tell ya, I was at that 37 – 0 Maryland whoppin’. I don’t remember anyone giving TOB heartache to this degree about it.

The conservative argument against funding education is based on the fact that they believe the public school systems are liberal re-education camps.

pakfanistan, that is the most uninformed thing I’ve ever read by you. Now, are there certain things that conservatives are unhappy about in the current system??? You BET! Especially some of the liberal CRAP that college professors shove down the throats of students. TEACHERS SHOULD BE NON BIASED IN THE CLASSROOMS! They don’t let them speak about anything of a Christian nature, they shouldn’t be able to say anything of a political nature either. There was a teacher that was formally reprimanded when i was in high school many years ago for wearing a political button about 1.5″ in diameter. And don’t give me that freedom of speech crap either. They are there to teach, not politically influence!

73% of Mr. Tillis’s supporters think Immigration is the biggest problem facing the country.
Other stats show Mr. Tillis’s supporters to be strongly negative on other human rights issues

Sorry Mr. Bill but I do not see illegal immigration as a human rights issue but one of a legal issue. While there may be a negative impact on enforcement of immigration laws I revert to the very first progressive president, Teddy R. His stance was you are welcome to immigrate here as long as you do it legally AND you become a part of our society (i.e. learn the language, pay the taxes, do not be a burden to the rest of us). Today the mess that has been created by illegal immigration has become a tremendous burden on our economy and legal system. It is unfortunate that this involves people, and thus in the minds of some becomes that human rights issue, BUT illegal aliens, and they do know they are here illegally, have no LEGAL rights. Is that cold and unfeeling, maybe, but thems the rules, like or not.

Way too funny Grey. I swear, they b**ch because the streak was 12, we win one and they still B**CH. 13, we aren’t celebrating, BUT, there are quite a few of us who feel we are turning a corner. There is a faction on here that reminds me of quite a few UNX fans I know. They don’t wear their colors right now because they know they cheated to win all those years. Through thick and thin I wear RED, with as big an S on it as I can find. Sunday I had on a State golf shirt and one of my many State jackets. And I’ll keep on wearing my colors until I die, win lose or draw. Why? Because I take pride in pulling for the Pack. They are MY team. I was on the main drag in 74 when they beat UCLA to go to the championship game on Monday night, it was some of the most fun I’ve ever had. In 83 I was stationed on a submarine in Charleston and I had over 100 bucks in bets. Everyone was giving me 20 points. Told ’em they were nuts, Jimmy V wasn’t about to let that game go over 50 points and State would be in it at the end. They were in it alright. I’ve seen incredible wins and loses at CF, but I’d rather be there than anywhere on a fall Saturday or Thursday night. So 13, keep your money in your pocket. I hope you regret it next fall.
