tractor, that 74 ACC championship game is still the best game I’ve ever seen. While many others have also held high drama none did like that one. Had State lost they wouldn’t have had a chance at the national championship. As it was Maryland bypassed the NIT because Lefty was so mad at losing that game. The ACC had 3 of the top 10 teams in the country and only one went to the big dance. I think every fingernail I had was bleeding after that game.

LOL @ “mushroom picking is a sport”, 40 some years ago I played that game and lost (3 days I DO NOT REMEMBER WHATSOEVER). Needless to say I don’t have any of those in my garden.

YUM on Mary-Ann, and of course Ann Margret, YOW! I had a numbered list of my favorites when I was 13 (can you say puberty kicked in?).

On a different subject I finished my homemade disc hiller/cultivator yesterday and that thing rocks. Perfect rows, easily adjustable for width, height and furrow depth.

WolftownVA81, my favorite heirloom maters are giant Belgium pinks and Wisconsin. The giants are really big and very tasty, especially on a mater sandwich. One slice from the middle will completely cover a slice of bread.

What is 2,4 D? And will it hurt the bermuda?

it’s a weed killer, lots of different names. Best place to buy it though is agri supply, best price in town, they have a large display of it. Get the amine kind and get a gallon, depending on the size of your yard may last a season or two. Will kill weeds in all grasses, centipede can be a bit touchy with it but I’ve used it on everything in all types of grasses. If there is a cotton field near you though be careful, it will wilt cotton. I have 4 acres and I spray the stuff with a boom sprayer.

The Reaper was developed in Rock Hill, SC, just over the state line. They do have good flavor CD but most people have to tame them a bit by using a tiny tiny bit in sauce. I had some chili about a month ago that was delicious. It burned my lips but wasn’t that hot. The guy who made it said he used a piece of the pepper about the size of an pencil eraser and the chili pot was probably 2 quarts.

Jason, lookup the Carolina Reaper, seeds are like 10 bucks for 10 seeds (shipping included). Those things are the hotest in the world right now.

Was thinking about starting a bonsai, or maybe just throwing some seeds from the corner of the baggie in the outdoor planters at work.

It’s very early in the morning BUT if the last half of that sentence means what I think it does then it’s a good thing I wasn’t drinking coffee at the time I read it. That’s hysterical! “What’s that weed growing in the planter? No clue, must be some kind of herb cause it sure has a strong smell but I just can’t quite place it.”

Ashe, I’m jealous, LOVE asparagus but it won’t grow well here, too hot in the summer.

CD, I’ll have a bumper crop of corn, when it starts coming in I’ll front ya a bushel or so for puttin’ up in the freezer, and some for fresh. Was thinking today about a thick PRIME grade ribeye from Costco on the grill and 3 or 4 ears of corn still in the shuck on the back of the grill that’s ready at the same time that steak is just nice and pink inside with a crisp dark outside. Peel back the shuck, slather them with butter and dig in. YOWSER!

Oh and cuke slices with a mater or two sliced up too!!!!

CD, I have a big one this year. Picked up a used compact tractor with a disc and mower and building some other necessaries like a hiller/cultivator.

I saw the very first Captain show WAY long ago.

Tried the straw bales, ya gotta stay on top of them when it gets really hot, and they do suck up the water. Prefer growing in dirt, a bit more forgiving.

As for the garden goodies, two varieties of REALLY sweet corn, 3 type of maters including Giant Pink Belgiums which when sliced yields 3 really good mater sandwiches from the center slices, YUM! and Wisconsin (sorta like rutgers) and of course Big Boys. Doing some valencia peanuts for making boiled goobers, red potatoes, squash, zucchini, cukes (long and pickling), okra, scallions, shallots, onions, cantaloupe, watermelons, and 5 Carolina REAPER plants (the world’s hottest pepper… look it up! they are atomic!) Also setting a herb garden. Planted some strawberries in the flower beds, lots of discussions about a few varieties that make good ground cover with a plus of giving up some delicious berries for homemade ice cream (I have a killer recipe). I CAN’T WAIT!

Sorry Rick but you are part of the problem here. My bet is if this medium had been around during the Valvano days you’d be ripping on him too. It’s easy for someone to sit back in a chair in front of a monitor and just let the negativity flow. If you had to sit down in front of Gott would you say the same things to his face? That is the extreme downside of instant negative feedback with no personal responsibility that comes with it. And to say you would ban foose because he doesn’t share your opinions or viewpoints???? THAT above all else is CRAP. Who made you the king?

I’ve said this once before but I think it should be repeated, if you aren’t willing to say something about someone to their face then you probably shouldn’t say it. And yes Rick, I’d say this to your face, in this case you’re flat out wrong. There were lots of good if not great teams that went home before we did. Personally I’m OK with what we achieved this season. I was especially happy with the take down of the Cheats in the dome.

I don’t know, but maybe it’s time you took a break. In the great grand scheme of life, REAL LIFE, there are oh maybe a million things more important than the score on a scoreboard. I look back 7, 8, 9 years and right now Wolfpack athletics is light years ahead of where they were. If that’s not enough to celebrate then my guess is NCs in every sport and you’d still find fault.

My other grandfather, yep, real possibility, but not the one that raised me. His father committed suicide when the stock market crashed in 29 and at age 20 he had to be a father to his 3 younger brothers during the great depression and he pulled the family through it. Every time I go back to my hometown for one reason or another at least one person says something about how great a man he was. He’s been gone over 40 years and there are still days I wish I could talk to him. I’ve known more than a few men I considered to have great integrity but he is still at the top of the list. No offense taken Bill, if you had known him you’d know what I mean.

^I don’t even know what the actual speed limit is on 440.

60 MPH, but try that in all but the very right hand lane and you’ll get run over. 65 – 70 is the flow of traffic.

That being said I’m not sure how to address what you said here Bill. If two teams are playing and one team is cheating (Patriots for example), what is the reaction? One thing that drives me nuts about college basketball today is the refs allowing mugging without calling fouls. Is that cheating? As one that was brought up by a grandfather who was very stern about “how you played the game” I remember all too well paying a price twice because of something I did on the field/court that did not get called. One of those times I had to “cut my own switch”, an experience that is direction altering all on it’s own. It’s those things that formed how I “play” the game of real life, and always have. More than once I have made decisions about how I “play” based on the lessons he taught me. If that sounds self righteous it surely is not, it is me following in the ways I was brought up. I “played” with many, both on the field and in the classroom, and now in the workplace. How I play is a product of my grandfather’s lessons. It’s not a matter of pride for me that I strive to stay between the lines, it is who he taught me to be and I see no other way to play.

That all being said, I have difficulty dealing with those who have no lines, and lament that they didn’t have someone who taught them that lines are important. The importance is a clear conscience. When you cheat you live in fear of being found out, or you lament when you are caught, which is even worse.

In NC you have to learn the laws and take a test. One of the things all of the instructor/certifiers stress is use of deadly force. There are lots of fine lines draw when the necessity of using deadly force is allowed. A CC permit does not allow the use of a gun just the ability to carry one concealed. Once you draw it from your holster or place of concealment a totally different set of laws kick in. Obviously the young lady who made that remark doesn’t understand the ramifications of crossing the point of carrying vs drawing. Even with laws on the books about being able to defend yourself against bodily harm does not mean that they won’t be out to get you if you do. I give you Travon Martin and Michael Brown, both bodily harm perpetrators and both men who shot them faced formidable actions from the legal system.

As a side note, you must be 21 in Florida to get a concealed carry permit. That would easily knock out at least 75% of the students (probably more since there are many more first, second and third year students students due to attrition). And as has been noted most are just trying to survive on what little disposable money they have and probably would not purchase a gun and go through the training. Concealed carry has quite a few monetary requirements in addition to the cost of the gun itself. In NC you can easily spend almost 200 to get a permit for the first time. I could see it being monetarily restrictive as to who could actually get the permits. And as red noted there are other more pressing wants for kids at that age.

“self-important victims”. REALLY? Somewhere, somehow this site lost its compass in the last year or so. The article that was removed was pure trash and should have been removed long before it got to 3 pages. Its things like that that drive the NCSU athletic department crazy. One of the collective of SFN contributors needs to have a open heart to heart talk with Debbie Yow OR Randy Woodson about their perceptions of the fan boards in general. Trust me, there is a large disdain there whether you guys want to admit it or not, and what happened today is prime example of why.

Maybe I’m off base here but I feel a correction in viewpoints of what is and is not acceptable is long overdue. By the comments I read from many I don’t think I’m in the minority.

There is a certain amount of disdain that the NCSU athletic department has for quite a few “fan” sites and I’ve seen it and personally heard it from Debbie Yow when I was speaking with her one time and mentioned SFN. This is one of the reasons. I am POSITIVE that were he alive today Jimmy V would be extremely displeased in this.

Whoever wrote this in that veil of being one of many called StateFansNation should have already been called on the carpet by the others AND the thread removed. This is single handedly THE WORST show of sportsmanship and decorum I have ever seen exhibited on this site. I have been disappointed with how things have been conducted and comments over the past year or so but this on REALLY takes the cake. I never thought I’d see this site sink so low. I was wrong.

And McCallum, say what you want about riding a high horse but I’d rather be accused of doing that than wallowing around in the CRAP that is this thread.

With Dish I’ve had espn3 and the SEC network since last april. Had fox sports package for years. I’ve been a direct customer and I’ll never go back. I’ve had at least 5 neighbors and friends that have left direct for dish just in the last year and they all said their bill was lower, service better and more channels. I have 2 DVRs which lets me record 6 programs at once (no more conflicts with the wife unit on who gets to record what, she has her recorder, I have mine). Also with my internet connection I can recall all network programming for the last month for free, so even if a game runs overtime and screws up the recording I can download it for free and still watch it. I can also watch Tv from work with the dish anywhere app which came in handy last year during the ACC tourney and the big dance.

foose, those are my sentiments exactly, and one of the reasons I’ve only had one post on here since the Ga Tech game. There was a part of me that so badly wanted to do the “told you so” dance when we whacked the cheats and then won the bowl game, but I didn’t. I thought “nah, the negative nellies will still find a way to pee in the corn flakes”. The fact of the matter is, and things continue to come to light that reinforces this stance, that DD is a VERY good coach, from academics all the way to recruiting. But you know what, I bet if we go 10 – 2 in the regular season next year and lose to CU & FSU the same bunch will be still fussin’ that he is in over his head.

I happened to see an article yesterday from last July in USA Today that discussed the up coming season. The writer actually spoke about how dire our talent was and everything DD and company had faced and was facing. The prognostication was at best a 6 – 6 season but more likely 5 – 7. That was probably a pretty good judgement, HOWEVER, 35 – 7 on the cheats and a VERY good bowl win made it a VERY good year in light of what it could have been, and with a bit of good fortune we could have won the Louisville and BC games too. And don’t look now, the good recruits are piling up. For as long as I can recall I don’t know if we have ever had this good a class of in state recruits, and the overall class is impressive IMO. In my mind I CANNOT wait til next season.

I, too, know a lot of Liberty grads… and I know zero who (a) have an open mind about any topic, or (b) have a single non-white friend or acquaintance.

It’s been a while since I posted, just got tired of some of the junk I was seeing posted but this one drew my ire and I have to reply.

First, that is one of the most racist things I’ve heard in a VERY long time. I know several Liberty grads and not a one of them is any level of racist that I know of. Could they be harboring tendencies, yep, it’s hard to know the true heart of any man. But all are upstanding members of their communities. One is the Fire Chief of a major metro area and I know for a fact he is not.

Second, I have five thousand dollars that says you can’t prove what you said. Lay down your money and prove it. And btw, “a lot” to me means you know at least 10, and EVERYONE of them would have to fit the paradigm you described. I know more than that, and not one of them fits what you said. More than that, there are multitudes of people who do not or may not “have an open mind” by YOUR definition or may not have any non-white friends. Neither of those things makes someone a racist. I would venture another five thousand dollar bet that you would consider anyone who has conservative views to be not open minded. Let me remind you that in and of itself makes YOU not open minded by refusing to allow someone to have views that differ from yours.

Third, to me this is race baiting plain and simple and should not be tolerated. It would be like me saying I know “a lot” of NCCU grads, which I do, and …

    Just sayin’
