My father was a Korean war POW. It affected him adversely all his life, there were demons he never overcame. His brother was killed in Vietnam. How I chose to serve in the Navy I’m not quite sure. I did do my time on submarines though so that could have been a protective mechanism. At any rate today hits close to home in many ways, both my family and two close friends who served in Vietnam, one didn’t come home. When that Yahoo made that comment I felt like throwing a rock at the TV hoping I could hit him. I’m definitely lighting up RSN with a phone call tomorrow. During this holiday weekend above all was THE WRONG TIME TO SAY THAT. He is an idiot of the 10th degree.
HEY dumba$$ what it we are tired of hearing your stupid comments?

SAVE the pitching for tomorrow! We’ve been on house money since the 12th last night! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! I know Mr. P did the deed for us to win BUT our pitching did THE deed to keep us in it. Couple of REAL tight spots down the stretch from the 7th on against a powerful hitting team (did you see some of those batting ave., home runs and RBIs those guys had???). The strike out IN THE 12th with men on 2nd AND 3rd was AWESOME!

5 miles from the corner of I95 and I40. I’m having to replant quite a few things and I transplanted some stuff too early. On a positive note I waited until the first of May to plant the peanuts and they are zooming up out of the ground right now. The replanted corn will just allow a much wider harvest period which will mean two sessions of putting it up in the freezer. Have a few squash and Zucchini plants with flowers so that won’t be long now.

Some outstanding baseball last night. Fun to watch (and be able to watch). That Ratledge kid is becoming a beast. I’m glad Rodon is doing great in the bigs but it would have been monsterous for us to have him this year too. Pitching is everything. It’s funny we had more WF batters HBP than they had hits and we still managed a win.

Bill, my onions, potatoes and shallots are going gang busters. The cold snap the last half of April musta been the deal. The negative side of that is I had to replant corn, eggplant and okra. Half my corn came up and almost none of the okra and eggplant. Melons are on the replant list too, not sure if that was the cold snap or birds/rabbits or both.

PIR, are you proposing just totaling up the runs from the series and let that be who wins the series. I like that thought process!

CD, got the goobers in the ground today, that true southern delicacy called boiled peanuts is about 90 days or so away, I cannot wait. Corn is mostly up, okra, squash, cukes, red and gold potatoes, and three kinds of maters. And the surprise to me so far are the onions and shallots! Been looking at some plans for a DIY PVC greenhouse that I’m gonna do in late sept when some of the season is over, plus some cool weather crops.

The Wendy’s Russian fashion show video from the 80s would fit right in but I have no idea how to link it.

So sad CD. I got plenty of maters and peppers and the offer still stands.

I could also easily show you some stats to suggest that he was one of the worst ACC coaches, ever.

Ummm, Les could probably take that one BUT there are quite a few that were much worse that SL. Closely review Clemson for “stats”.

Rick, you’re supposed to be one of the grownups around here but more and more I see you picking fights like a 15 year old. Everyone has a right to an opinion but you seem to go out of your way to try and prove to everyone that yours is the only one that’s right. And some of it seems darned mean spirited. That gets tiring after a while man.

“Tikki Tavi.” Can’t remember the last time something hit me like that, I almost fell out of the chair laughing so hard. No kidding. Hysterical. Thanks for the laugh man!

CD, my favorite wolfpacker, Clayton White, contributed to Wilson’s career at State. Those two were integral members of pretty good defenses in their heyday and made it tough in the middle. While Clayton did play on Sundays he had always wanted to coach, and he’s a darned good one too.

I think DD just tried to survive the first year so he made the best he could of a bad situation. The second year he was demanding more of his charges and he probably let it be known “produce or go away”. VS didn’t. He could have let it go but to me it was an expansion on his stand at the end of the season and the now infamous quote. Part of being that hard working, hands in the dirt kind of mentality, and if you ain’t there you ain’t here for long. I’m pretty sure VS may not have had the work ethic vs. the inability because we had seen that in his performance the year before. Why he didn’t repeat is anyone’s guess, maybe hearing footsteps did him in, it’s happened to more than one football player. In any event, to me DD just stated what most of us who follow Pack football closely already knew, VS didn’t have IT this year, and without IT you may as well take your ball and go home.

CD, just for the “record” (pun intended) Mac Park came out in 68 so ya ain’t gotta be too old to remember it. I played it often if I needed a boys room break since it was a LONG song, 7 minutes worth. Layla came along in 72 and that was another 7 minute “break song”. It’s funny to me because both lyrics can be applied here. most would be begging Lacey to stay if they could. Hey guys IT IS WHAT IT IS! Nothing you can do about it and no manner of weeping or gnashing of teeth will change it. That being said I’d like to say “Line it up on the 35 and kick the damn thing through the end zone…LET’S PLAY FOOTBALL!” The last time I was this excited about an upcoming season was 2001, SERIOUSLY!

DSD, 10-10-10 is your friend. Centipede is not a high nitrogen grass which is what most weed and feeds are. I’ve got 3 dogs in my backyard and the centipede survives the winters with them. I do aerate a bit but not extensively every other year. Feed the pede some 10-10-10 or even better find some tobacco fertilizer that is low nitrogen and pop some ironite to it, I’ll bet you’ll be amazed at how much better it does. I’ve been mowing it and growing it for 50 years, mine greened up this week and it’s beautiful.

pakfan, for those who do not want to mow often but still want a decent lawn CENTIPEDE. It is referred to as the lazy man’s grass since you can let if grow for weeks without mowing. While having runners it is not as aggressive as bermuda in that respect. It will grow almost anywhere and is best grown from sprigs (although seeds can work). Lot’s of places sell sod and you can just use 1 foot square pieces to get a lawn growing with minimum watering once the roots take hold. It will choke out most weeds and requires very little in the way of fertilizer to do well. LAZY MAN’S GRASS.

Stick, getting rid of bermuda is simple, grow centipede and then spray with Poast which kills all grasses except centipede. The nice thing about centipede is it rarely grows higher than 3 inches (take note CD, you’d never have to mow) and it doesn’t grow in winter and it chokes most weeds out.

Here’s the link for the most common version of the product.

    Click to access 2_4-D.pdf

Centipede, bentgrass and St. Augustine can experience some problems. I’ve never had a problem with Bermuda and until 4 years ago I had 4 acres of it. Since then I’ve converted all to centipede (tired of all the mowing involved with a top notch Bermuda lawn). There are other products and if you don’t feel comfortable with 2,4-d don’t use it but it’s the cheapest and most effective on broadleafs. Cimarron Plus is good stuff but EXPENSIVE. I only used that to control bahia but it also killed broadleaf weeds. There are several other products that work but most are considered controlled and only for use on pastures and sod farms. You can procure them (ebay is a good source) but if you use ’em and cause a problem for your neighbor (kill their fescue) watch out.
