Atsur had to sit out 3 games.
Deniz Kilicli at WVU was from Turkey, had to sit out 20 games back in 2009.
Enes Kanter wasn’t eligible at Kentucky.
So who knows. Hopefully Yurtseven won’t have any issues, but this is NC State we’re talking about.
WV WolfKeymasterThe Duke (and Va Tech) numbers have been corrected, the dangers of copy and paste. Thanks for the heads up.
The stats come from the NCAA, attendance is under misc reports
http://stats.ncaa.org/rankings/ranking_summary?academic_year=2016&division=11.0&org_id=490&ranking_period=9&sport_code=MFB09/09/2015 at 3:43 PM in reply to: NC State Football By The Numbers – Post Men Of Troy Edition #88472WV WolfKeymasterTroy was 1 for 1 scoring in the red zone. So our opponents red zone percentage is 100%. Might make more sense to list red zone defense at 0 but the NCAA lists it as 100.
WV WolfKeymasterPittsburghPackFan is our winner. Dennis “Bob” Horner and his flaming tat had 14 on Senior Day vs Boston College in 2010.
WV WolfKeymasterDaniel_Simpson_Day has the right idea but not quite as far back as Julius (who only had 8 points on senior day in the infamous nut punch game)
WV WolfKeymasterI think KW PLAYS more in losses because Gott is searching for points. At the risk of being labelled a whiner again, I wonder if KW’s minutes are higher in our losses.
Kyle averages 22.0 minutes in losses vs 20.0 in wins. So you’re right, he does play more in losses but 2 minutes doesn’t seem too significant.
WV WolfKeymasterAgreed, I appreciate the time and effort putting all this info together.
WV WolfKeymasterNice work, I know from experience the time it takes to go through the numbers for an entry like this.
WV WolfKeymasterA couple of years ago at the Jimmy V golf tournament I was the host/golf cart driver for Bates Battaglia. We started on the same hole as Barkley.
At each tee there were signs the celebs would autograph for the sponsors. As Charles goes to autograph the sign, Bates being Bates tries to give him a hard time and starts spelling out Charles for him.
Barkley responded “I can spell, I didn’t go to UNC”
WV WolfKeymasterVery sad to hear about Stuart Scott yesterday. I met him a few times at the Jimmy V golf tournament, since the tourney was in August one year I got to talk a little good natured junk about State vs UNC football (probably back in the Rivers era) and he had some fun with it. In retrospect that’s a pretty cool moment.
Before the tourney they would have a reverse raffle for a new BMW. Towards the end people would make offers to buy up the final tickets. Stuart would be one of the MCs and when the price got a little too steep he would chip in hundreds of dollars out of his own pocket to sweeten the pot and keep things moving and a little more interesting. I will definitely remember that generosity.
If you haven’t seen Rich Eisen do the Colts/Bengals highlights with all of Stuart’s catchphrases, it’s pretty cool

WV WolfKeymasterSwofford sucks at punctuation too.
WV WolfKeymasterThis is pretty damning as well. From the New York Times article
In November 2009, Ms. Reynolds and other members of the academic support program convened a meeting of the football coaches to discuss how the departure of Ms. Crowder would affect the players’ academic standing. The counselors and coaches were “painfully aware,” the report said, “that Crowder’s retirement would require the whole football program to adjust to a new reality of having to meet academic requirements with real academic work.”
In the meeting, two members of the football counseling staff explained to the assembled coaches that the classes “had played a large role in keeping underprepared and/or unmotivated players eligible to play.” To emphasize this point, they presented a PowerPoint demonstration in which one of the slides asked and then answered the question, “What was part of the solution in the past?”
“We put them in classes that met degree requirements in which … they didn’t go to class … they didn’t have to take notes, have to stay awake … they didn’t have to meet with professors … they didn’t have to pay attention or necessarily engage with the material,” the slide said. “THESE NO LONGER EXIST!”
WV WolfKeymasterI appreciate the kind words about my old article.
10 players on Tom O’Brien’s first team in 2007 made it to the NFL.
13 players from Chuck Amato’s first team in 2000 made it to the NFL.
8 players from Mike O’Cain’s first team in 1993 made it to the NFL.Unless I’m missing somebody, Dontae Johnson (who I underestimated although I mentioned him as a possibility) is the only guy from Doeren’s first team in the NFL. Of course it will be a few years before we can get the final total.
WV WolfKeymasterCan someone explain the Past and Future Opposition numbers?
They don’t include 1-AA games.
GA Southern is 3-2, take away win over Savannah St for 2-2
ODU is 3-2, take away win over Hampton for 2-2
Presby doesn’t count
FSU is 4-0, take away win over The Citadel for 3-02-2
2-2
3-0
adds up to 7-4 past oppositionWV WolfKeymasterWhen the people in the row in front of you stand up right as the picture is taken, blocking most of yourself and completely blocking 2 of your seatmates, not nearly as exciting. That’s the kind of luck I have…
WV WolfKeymasterAt least Adidas didn’t give us the same shorts design as Louisville
WV WolfKeymasterNice recap. Not being able to keep all of your FSU wins straight in your head is a good problem to have.
09/23/2014 at 3:32 PM in reply to: NC State Football By The Numbers – Post Presbyterian Edition #56868WV WolfKeymasterThe USF boxscore lists the fumbles as: FUMBLES: NC State-TEAM 2-1.
WV WolfKeymasterYeah, I messed those two lines up. The post has been updated. Thanks.
WV WolfKeymasterThanks, the associated stats are stuff I do for my job all the time so it wasn’t that big a deal. Going through the schedules took a little work but it was kinda interesting to see how it all played out.
WV WolfKeymasterWV, where do you get your stats from? It looks like the NCAA has redone their stats for this year and severely screwed up the usefulness in the process.
I get them from stats.ncaa.org
http://stats.ncaa.org/team/index/11980?org_id=490&sport_year_ctl_id=11980
WV WolfKeymasterTotally agree, thought our d-line looked terrible tonight.
While I’m glad we won, can we please stop the scoreboard from playing songs and noise when our own offense is in the huddle and under center? No, everybody does not need to clap their hands when the offense needs to hear the snap count. Drives me nuts.
WV WolfKeymasterAnother good source is an app called Bleacher Buddy (developed by WVU grads no less) where you put in your TV/cable provider and it will tell you what channel the game is on. It has all sports too, not just college football.
WV WolfKeymasterNo matter what happens I’ll have bragging rights somewhere…
I have never been more conflicted watching a football game than that State/WVU bowl game a few years ago. Now I get to go through that 2 more times in football plus basketball? Clearly Debbie & Oliver Luck didn’t consult me first.
