Bennett turned down IU in 2008:
After the season, Bennett reportedly turned down an offer to become head coach at Indiana, a job which eventually fell to Marquette coach Tom Crean.[30][31] He also discussed the LSU vacancy at that year’s Final Four, a job that went to Stanford coach Trent Johnson.[32]
WulfpackParticipantIrish up 3. Princeton with the ball to tie.
WulfpackParticipantI sure hope so, Beej.
WulfpackParticipantI dont think Archie would pick UVA over us. They don’t currently get elite talent, so there is little difference in the two programs, except coaching.
Well, there is actually one big difference – you know who your boss is going to be in 2 years at UVa.
WulfpackParticipantAnother factor – IU was paying Crean over $3 million in salary-9th highest in the country. Bennett only makes $2 million at UVa.
WulfpackParticipantButler looking good
WulfpackParticipantBennett is from Wisconsin. Played at Wisconsin Green Bay. Assistant coach under his dad at Wisconsin for four years. He was the national coach of the year at Washington State – a basketball graveyard. Hoos came calling. I have always thought he’d end up in the Big 10. Can’t do much better than IU.
WulfpackParticipantPerfect example of how good solid defense keeps you in a game when you cant hit the backside of the barn. They weathered the storm and are right there. If that had been us, we’d be down 20.
WulfpackParticipantDefinitely Bennett. Dont see Stevens leaving as he has got it going well in Boston. I do see him leaving for Duke, whenever that is.
WulfpackParticipantNot so fast. Wahoo D kicking in.
WulfpackParticipantSo Crean can hit the airwaves next year and earn $4 million. Coach again in 2018.
WulfpackParticipantHe signed a contract extension in 2012 to keep him in Bloomington through 2020. Crean’s buyout went from $12 million to $4 million in the past two years. It would have fallen to $1 million next season. Crean’s contract contains offset language that reduces the amount in the event he gets another job.
WulfpackParticipantHoos getting crushed.
WulfpackParticipantYou can bet your behind IU will be calling Archie.
WulfpackParticipantCrean fired at Indiana
WulfpackParticipantCrean fired at Indiana
WulfpackParticipantWashington fires Romar.
WulfpackParticipantI have always thought Bennett would end up in the Big 10. I just never thought it’d be Illinois. If that’s where he wants to be, Bloomington sounds about right.
WulfpackParticipantGood solid hire for Mizzouso in the span of five years Martin goes from Missouri State to Tennessee to Cal to Mizzou. Wow.
WulfpackParticipantCrean might leave to get another contract at a P5 while he can. IU isnt upping his current one and he will probably be out next year regardelss. So why not go get a 5 or 6 year deal somewhere else, ala Herb Sendek.
He can get another P5 gig after he is fired from IU next year. He isn’t going anywhere on his own volition.
WulfpackParticipantKeatts actually has more experience as a head man, but I’m not sure how relevant his is.
Actually, Wade has more experience. Wade is finishing up his second season as the head guy at VCU. Prior to that, he coached two years at Chattanooga.
Keatts, on the other hand, is finishing up his third year at UNCW. Note he’s some 10 years older than Wade.
Crean isn’t going anywhere. He’d be an idiot to leave on his own.
WulfpackParticipantGeorgia Tech beats Indiana in the first round of the NIT.
WulfpackParticipantIf Brownell has already been fired, my apologies. Don’t seem to keep up with things like I used to.
As far as I know, we’re the only school that fires coaches and then lets them coach out the season. If Brownell is fired, it won’t be because he lost a meaningless NIT game against Oakland. It will be because he failed to make the NCAA Tourney for the sixth straight year.
WulfpackParticipantI am of the belief that if he can take Dayton to the Elite 8, he can certainly do that plus a whole lot more at NC State. The man can coach. It is in his blood.
WulfpackParticipantClemson bows out of the NIT early, losing to Oakland.
