WulfpackParticipant
Re the Cuse zone, it’s not so mich that it is tight, it is that it is so active and they move as one. Boeheim recruits these really long and athletic players, and they can move. Their arms and hands are very active. They block lanes, bump cutters, and get out on shooters quickly. They also clean the glass, which ain’t so easy to do in a zone. It is very difficult to play against. But I thought we did well, just not in the closing moments.
WulfpackParticipantTonight, yea the refs played a huge role. But Ennis hitting that running three last week at Pitt…They just seem to have that quiet confidence that they will win.
WulfpackParticipantI’m not so sure Boeheim did anything to win that one. He recruits good players and teaches them to play a good zone, no doubt. Somehow someway they keep winning these close ones.
WulfpackParticipantBecause they know the NCAAs are a very real possibility, Bill. This one hurt and everyone knows it.
WulfpackParticipantThere were a couple of very stale possessions late, but Cuse does that to everyone. It is very difficult to play that zone and they really amp it up when the game is on the line. So that is understandable to me. The turnovers really hurt. Didn’t get a good look at the last one leading to the go ahead points. Perhaps a foul?
The foul discrepency is certainly concerning. We battled hard for sure. It does seem very suspect.
WulfpackParticipantMonumental coaching hurdle for MG and staff to get this team ready for Tuesday.
Indeed.
WulfpackParticipantWe played great. I am encouraged. Showed a lot of heart and toughness. Loved that KW came alive. Sucks to lose though as we really need a signature win on the resumes. Comes down to Pitt and UNC, though Pitt will likely now be unranked with the loss to UNC today. We showed we can play with the big boys. The problem though as we know as the big slip up. As in upcoming games at Clemson and Va Tech. It can’t happen. Clemson is no joke. They played UVA very tough today. If we don’t bring it we will be in trouble. Tough to get over this one, no doubt. But back to business. Can’t let this one ruin the entire season.
WulfpackParticipant@ Clemson on Tuesday is HUGE. Must win.
WulfpackParticipantCuse wins these close games. We gave them the ball twice in the closing moments when we didn’t have to. That’s on us.
WulfpackParticipantPretty darn good year thus far for the Cavs.
WulfpackParticipantGoing to have to hit a bunch of threes for any chance. And if it is close, expect Cuse to do what Cuse does best in crunch time – win.
WulfpackParticipantThat is a big win that very well could push the Devils off the bubble.
WulfpackParticipantUNC ran us off the court the first half. They didn’t have to play a second half to beat us – that is the point. Gott even said it was one of the worst first half performances he had ever seen from one of his teams. It is a 40 minute game – sometimes longer. You’ve got to put it together for 40+ against the better teams. We came out smoking against Pitt, then they pummeled us the rest of the way. We played a good game against Cincy, but hardly scored the last 8 or so minutes of the game. In stretches, yes, we look pretty good. The same can be said for other average teams.
WulfpackParticipantWhat I’ve seen is State get blown out by every good team that they’ve played.
Yep. And IF we are fortunate enough to be in the discussion, don’t think for a minute that this won’t be the story. As it should. We’ve got to show something against the good teams left on our schedule – we’ve got to show we belong. I don’t currently think we do.
WulfpackParticipantWe were actually picked to finish 10th in the conference and we are currently 8th. So not a bad job thus far. Still a ways to go and a bad stretch and we can easily fall back. I thought coming in best case scenario is the bubble, and that looks to be the case. We’ve got to get a marquee win, though. FSU has fallen way off the radar and is no longer relevant. Pitt also not looking too good, but they are certainly tourney bound. Perhaps we can trip Cuse up, who knows. And boy is UVA balling.
WulfpackParticipantK, Bennett, Hamilton teams play great defense EVERY year. Some coaches GOTT it and some don’t. This is not an emphasis in our program.
WulfpackParticipantGreat idea and hope it happens. Would love to see us paired with Tennessee. A&M would be great as well. That would certainly put fannies in the stands.
WulfpackParticipantI give Herb credit – he looked dead in the water (lol) out there in the desert, but he has put together what appears to be a good team in a very solid/competitive conference. Another OT win last night and right in the thick of things. Zona is clearly not the same without Brandon Ashley. And I like Barnes, but he hasn’t been beyond the second round in 5 years, and missed it altogether last year. That changes this year.
WulfpackParticipantYou have to make your own luck. Wichita State made their own luck. Creighton made it. Butler made it. VCU made it. George Mason made it. Considering our resources, history/tradition, and fan support, NC State should not be playing the “woe is me” card and blaming others.
WulfpackParticipantKatz typically has a very good read on what is going on. We are now 9th in the ACC and have done nothing of note in the non conference. That is not going to get it done, not even close. Most think ACC is going to be lucky to get 6 bids this year.
WulfpackParticipantI listen to a lot of podcasts commuting and just heard Andy Katz and Seth Greenberg talk on the bubble. We weren’t even mentioned. I think we all know we have a lot of work to do.
WulfpackParticipantWhy would it be realistic considering who, and what conference, is in our backyard? That’s not likely to change any time soon.
WulfpackParticipantOur RPI is pretty good right now and if we win 7 of our next 10, the data will have us getting an at large bid. If we win 6 of 10, we still have a decent shot.
That may be, I don’t know as I don’t pay close enough attention to this kind of stuff in early February. But I do know the debate with us will be “who have they beaten?” And right now, we’ve beaten really nobody as FSU continues to fall.
WulfpackParticipantClemson now 6-3. Not bad.
WulfpackParticipantThey were a 12 point favorite according to yesterday’s Observer. We lost by 14, and now people are upset that we didn’t win on the road at their place (after all we’ve won how many there in the last 30 years)?!
It was a swing game. They move up, and we move down. We at least had a chance to take a step forward but it wasn’t to be. Mad? Heck no. Expected it as a matter of fact. Like clockwork. Samme ‘ole same ‘ole? You betcha.
