FSU plays some stupid basketball. They could have won this one, but played dumb.

UNC now up four. Starting to hit the three and playing some solid D.

Again, I do not see a shove. I’ve seen the play about 30 times now, and see the photos. The Cuse player caught up to Warren and tried to make a play on the ball. That what I, and many others, saw. And remember these calls are made in real time. Without a clear “shove” or “push”, you just aren’t going to see that call. They are all judgment calls made in the heat of action. Nobody is perfect but the fact that even Pack fans debate the play shows it wasn’t so black and white as some proclaim.

How many times did Scott Wood get called for intentional fouls for putting two hands on someone to stop a fast break? How was this any different.

The Cuse player caught up to Warren and tried to make a play on the ball. There is no shove. A small grab but then a clear swipe.

    Continuation debate? Absolutely.

It is only called intentional when there is no play on the ball. Such as grabbing the back of the jersey or sticking a leg out to slow a player. The Cuse player caught up with Warren and swiped at the arms. It is questionable if he got any ball, but remember these calls are made in real time. He tried to dislodge the ball, and for most refs that is what they see in that situation. They want to see a play made on the ball.

We were not picked to finish last – we were picked to finish 10th.

We certainly have the ability to win the last 6 but we all know there is going to be a WTF loss somewhere, and UNC just has our number. So it’s going to be close. Very close. My hunch is the ACC Tourney is going to be crucial to our post season fate.

Didn’t we get away with that foul late against Miami? Can’t remember the specifics as couldn’t watch much but heard we got away with one.

I didn’t think the Cuse player committed a flagrant foul – he actually made a swipe at the ball. But I did think it should have been an “and one”, and that would have salted the game.

Still, and here come all the pithforks, we should have won that one. Our late game execution continues to be a problem. Not only did we inbound it to the corner – the teeth of the Cuse trap – but nobody moved. All four players just stood there watching. There was no play. So that to me is concerning. And these are points that coaches must make and hope that the players grasp on the fly without a TO in your pocket.

Boeheim will be retiring soon. Roy will be retiring soon. K will be retiring soon. Pitino will be retiring soon.

So where will we be? Will we take advantage of this window of opportunity, or continue to play the “pity me” Wolfpack song? Think about it.

Made a really boneheaded pass, one that really shows his low basketball IQ at this point.

Did you watch the play? We inbound the ball to him in the corner. Two guys charge him and trap him. He sees it coming. Problem is nobody else in red runs to the ball, or does anything. Just watching their teammate get doubled. If you want to see it go to the MBB page on espn.com and watch the highlights. That’s how it went down.

So yea, I can excuse the mistake from the young gun.

I believe we are 6th in the league as well, but we have to go out and prove it at Clemson Tuesday night. Yet another swing game.

And there is nothing that says the Tournament Selection Committee must give the ACC 6 bids. Most agree there will be at least five from the ACC that are already in. But the 6th and any others will be judged against other bubble teams. So we gotta go out and win. And win some more. No hiccups against the middle and lower tier of the league, and a win over Pitt or UNC is a must. We’ve got nothing so far as Tennessee and FSU continue to flounder.

Gott also thinks it was a bad call:

“That was a made basket to put us up three with T.J. going on the line to go up four,” Gottfried said. “For them to wipe that away, I’ve already watched the tape and I don’t like that call. That changed things.”

But this quote from Turner really sticks out for some reason:

“I started to think we were about to get out of here with a win,” said Turner, whose free throws with 62 seconds left gave N.C. State a 55-53 lead.

Check that thinking at the door, young man. Refs weren’t about to let us get this one.

Barber was not fouled. We inbounded the ball into the corner, which fed right into the trap. He saw it coming and threw it away.

The Warren play is most certainly debateable, as is the foul discrepency.

Reffing ain’t easy. That’s my final take. Got a buddy that travels the country doing it. These guys are exhausted, and they take it nightly from fans and coaches. They are human like the rest of us. And for the record, I do not buy into the conspiracy theories.

Hey, if you guys want to go play at Nebraska, and Iowa, and Northwestern, and Minnesota, by all means go. But I’ll stay here. It’s going to be a lot of fun.

No, there isn’t. But often times they let it go. Just depends on the ref.

We only made 3 of 10 free throws in the first half. We threw it away twice in the closing moments, and were pretty stale offensively late in the game. So we could have certainly done some things better. Credit the Cuse zone on those items.

There did seem to be some ticky tack called on us on D late in the game, but nothing on our end.

I don’t think the Warren call merited an intentional. He made a clear play on the ball. Continuation could have gone either way however.

Gotcha. Yes, we played great, and it stinks to be on the losing end like this we can all agree.

The Cuse zone is good, very good, Bill. Not sure what your point is regarding it. It’s good against us and it’s good against others as well. That’s what they do. That’s how Boeheim has won a zillion games there. He knows how to teach that sucker. And it travels.

The highlights are up on the front page on espn.com for anyone that can stomach it. Conveniently mo mention of the Warren continuation situation. The Barber turnover looks to be legit – no foul there, just way too much panic. Fair then went down the floor and scored with 6 on the clock. Blech.

Cat turned it over with 14 on the clock. Plenty of time to force the five call and go down the floor for the win.

The Cuse zone held us to 55, and forced us into some errors late. So it ain’t chopped liver. I agree we handled it well for the most part, but in the end it did what it is designed to do. That’s why Cuse is in all these dang things game after game. It travels, too.

You can’t just hold it there, Bill. It would be a (quick) 5 second call. That’s what Boeheim wants out of that trap – a throw away works, too. Still though tough spot for a freshman. And Lewis wouldn’t be the answer there either as he wouldn’t be able to see out of it. Just a tough spot.
