WulfpackParticipant
Something that has always remained true is if there is a way to lose a game, State will find it. It really is incredible. No lead is safe when you are watching State. We must have really offended the sports Gods somewhere down the line.
WulfpackParticipantExecution, folks. Here we go:
“It’s definitely frustrating because it’s another game that we should have won but we just didn’t execute,” Turner said.
“We should have executed more on defense at the end of that game,” Warren said.
WulfpackParticipantI am now firmly convinced that some posters on this site do not watch the basketball game – they make it their job to watch the officiating. They will comment on just about every call.
I am in agreement that there were some questionable calls, and some no calls.
With that said, what cannot be denied is we allowed Paige to get WIDE, and I mean WIDE, open several times, which turned the game around. Then, with the game on the line, we allow him to get to the rim with little resistance. What did you think was going to happen, folks? It is really perplexing. For whatever reason, our guys lose their lunch with games on the line. We just do not do the little things to win these games.
And then there is the free throw shooting, which we never seem to improve, and then the turnovers. You go on down the line.
You must admit there are basketball reasons why these games are not going our way. Either that, or you aren’t actually watching the basketball game.
Was the officiating bad at times? Of course. Do I believe it is deliberate, as others seem to? Nope. And despite it all, was this game winnable with just a tightened screw or two? Absolutely.
WulfpackParticipantPaige kicked our tail. Get one stop and it is ballgame. Not only no stops but missed free throws and more late game turnovers. Blame the refs if you want but it won’t do us any good.
WulfpackParticipantWe cannot close out games period. End of story.
WulfpackParticipantBad calls, yes, but just as bad defense and rebounding.
WulfpackParticipantPaige has been WIDE open. Not good.
WulfpackParticipantThe Shockers are REALLY fun to watch. They play balls to the wall. And they do have some very good players.
WulfpackParticipantThey (Duke and UNC) have much better players across the board. And also better coaches. It’s really pretty simple.
How to change that isn’t so simple, I very much agree.
WulfpackParticipantMarcus Paige. Don’t stop him, don’t stop the Heels.
They are rolling and you can bet your behind Roy will have them ready. He knows we are on the ropes.
WulfpackParticipantSo NCSU football is somewhere between Obama and Mao. That’s about right.
WulfpackParticipantWake beats Clemson tonight, which I would think pretty much ends it for the Tigers. And we lost by 17 to them. That ain’t pretty.
WulfpackParticipantWe are not even listed now on espn’s tourney forecast. Pitt and FSU are the only ACC Bubble teams listed with “work left to do”. So we are clearly not even close as it stands today. That Clemson loss was the dagger.
WulfpackParticipantIt’s not fair, but seriously, good teams are going to get the benefit of the doubt.
Correct. Nothing Earth shattering here though. Been that way for ages.
Refs are human and make mistakes. They are influenced by a variety of factors. But to suggest that they come into an arena looking to screw one team is, well, an interesting, and frankly baseless claim.
WulfpackParticipantHe’ll be first team. Player of the year is much harder.
WulfpackParticipantThe problem with our league is that there is no consequence for an official being inept, no accountability.
Is there accountability in any league? You do realize refs work multiple conferences, right?
Yep, UVA is kicking tail, in first place. Yep, Miami won the conference last year. Yet all some want to do is blame others for our lack of success. It is getting old.
WulfpackParticipantEveryone knows Duke always gets that call at home. So many of us are not surprised by it. It was a close play, most agree.
I definitely believe there are all kinds of factors which influence a ref during a game. What I flatly reject is the idea that they come into a game looking to screw one team.
And IF that were the case, there are two other refs on the floor.
WulfpackParticipantNext year could be as tough as this year though
If we lose Warren, which is now highly likely, then it probably will be.
As for Lewis, he has done a great job after a very slow start. His defense, though, is still below average. And being so small, guys are just blowing right by him and shooting over him. He is just not very good on that end of the floor.
WulfpackParticipantBoeheim is a whiny you know what. I was sitting here watching the Cuse/Maryland game and earlier he was complaining about Maryland being off on Saturday. The world does not revolve around you and Cuse, Jimmy B. If you want to go back to the Big East, have at it. And him calling the charge call the worst call of the year is laughable. I had always heard he was a complainer, and this sure proves it further. Just shut up and coach your team.
WulfpackParticipantI think refs are determining the outcomes of games and it is just not enjoyable to watch anymore
That is certainly quite the claim. I do not hold that same opinion but encourage anyone that does so to offer facts to support such an assertion.
These guys are working their tales off. They are human and make mistakes like the rest of us. Please see this recent article on the rigors and challenges inherit in officiating:

WulfpackParticipantAnd I would probably say only one opportunity left – UNC. Pitt is unranked. And they will torch us, as they always do, so the year is effectively over IMHO. We don’t get in without a win Wednesday.
WulfpackParticipantI took a look, too and Dance Card has us as the 14th team out – not even close. Lunardi of course does not have us in. It is looking more and more like the ACC will only get five in. FSU got a bump with its win over Pitt. Pitt is falling, which is not good for us.
WulfpackParticipantIt was a necessary win, that will mean zilch if we don’t find a way to beat UNC and Pitt.
WulfpackParticipantHe’s just trying to establish himself as the king. But nobody gets that call at Cameron. Nobody. Just the way it is. And it was a close call, making him look like a complete idiot. UVA is going to win the conference.
WulfpackParticipantAfter seeing UNC whip Duke last night, coupled with the idea that they absolutely own us, there is no chance we win that game. They’ve gotten much better since our first game, and we haven’t. So we will be home for March.
