Four wide open threes. Two easy dunks. This is what we are.

UVA now moves up to #5 in the country, and projected as a 3-seed.

I will say it now, and probably again for the millionth time – if there is any way we can get Greg Marshall, get him. His results speak volumes. But his price may be too high, he may now have loftier goals and he may not listen again, or he may just stay and make Wichita State the next Gonzaga. By that I mean a mid major national powerhouse that runs on autopilot year after year.

The Panthers need this one more than us. And we have been playing matador defense lately. So I expect this one to be ugly rather early. Time for some serious NIT Bubble-ology. Any takers?

Maddow? Your getting your short haired female personalities mixed up. One is very funny, and the other, ummm…

Regarding the season’s expectations – I guess you could say he has held serve. The problem is no trophies should be handed out for finishing in the middle of the conference and now living on the NIT bubble. We also have not been competitive in many games, some at home. There are some signs the tracks could be coming apart.

If I had to sum Gott’s tenure up, it would go something like:

    Year 1 – Holy smokes!
Year 2 – Not so fast
Year 3 – Here we go again

So next year becomes so vitally important to the direction this ship is going to take. I don’t care who we bring in, losing Warren will put us behind the eight ball starting out. He’s going to have to whip them into shape and build the team’s character and identity rather quickly. This year, we beat nobody in the non-conference, and had a loss to freaking Central, so it was going to take a strong ACC season to get us in. It didn’t happen.

The NIT seems to favor the mid majors. FSU, Clemson and Maryland are also in the running. Virginia, FSU and Maryland made it last year. Miami was the only ACC team to make it the year prior. I think we’d be in today but we need to beat BC for sure. Beating Pitt tomorrow would be nice too but that will be tough.

Those are very interesting takes Roo. And I know nothing about them. We all know there was quite a rift on the squad last year. Don’t know about this year but if what you imply is true then yea, Gott is going to get a stern talk or two. You cannot have that stuff in your program and expect to win big.

Knowing what I know about Yow, she won’t stand for three subpar years in a row in our most high profile sport, while the likes of FSU, Miami and UVA cut ’em down.

As I have stated before, Lowe is not the barometer. I will be nice and just say he didn’t get it done. I could be much harsher and truthful at the same time. So any discussion about a coach at State should not reference Lowe. This is now Gott’s program. This is what we have in year 3, and some of us don’t really see how it gets that much better in year 4 when we in all probability lose our best player.

When I watch FSU cut down the nets. Then Miami. And now UVA, I begin to wonder. It is possible. It is very possible. I’m not right now saying Gott is NOT the guy to get us there, but if it doesn’t happen next year, I think we may see someone else in charge. As most here know, Yow doesn’t mess around. Especially not with basketball. We should be better. No question.

Gott and at least one Pack player admitted our effort, especially on D, was subpar yesterday. He basically said that can’t happen. Ok, agreed. But why does it keep happening? In the end, the sword is yours.

I get that it is tough to bounce back after demoralizing losses – speaking to the Clemson and Miami losses. But… Why is it that so many other teams seem so much tougher mentally than us? Other programs, some with little or no history or tradition at all, find a way.

Gott must produce next year. This is now two years in a row that he hasn’t.

I really don’t know if we are going to be better next year or not. We’ve gone through Warren all year, so who steps up next year? Does anyone transfer? Any changes on staff? Do the guys actually work hard in the off season? Does Anya get in shape (we will need him). Do we practice free throws? Do we practice trying to stop the other team? What about team chemistry? Who is the leader? What about the schedule (non conference and unbalanced ACC)? So many factors play into it. We all pretty much pegged this team. Next year, who the heck knows?

The Hoo’s victory also sets Virgina, Miami, Florida State as the last three ACC Champs.
Kinda pokes some big holes into the Blue Conspiracists thinking.

Indeed it does, but they will find a way to argue otherwise, I am sure of it.

I watched Wichita State just finish an undefeated season. And they played most excellently. We coulda had him.

I also saw some of Memphis/Lousville. Pastner getting it done.

And now I’m watching a very stout UVA team take it to Cuse. This team is freaking good – really good.

All I’m trying to say is some are getting it done. And this is NC State.

He has now shopped for all the groceries. Coaching staff as well. He stinks as a defensive coach. If that does not improve we may see him back on the tube before long.

Warren is NBA bound, so my hopes for next year aren’t high. Louisville joins as well. It’s only getting harder. Gott is very close to being a gonner, I am sure of it. Do or die next year.

We gave up 85 at home to Miami, and are now in 10th place and may not make the NIT. That’s where we are, folks.

We fought very hard, which is hard to do after these agonizing losses. That is a great sign.

The bad news is we play sloppy stupid basketball.
