^^I agree, Bill + Cowdog.
I got what you meant … My post was about philosophy and belief as opposed to in-game.
I’ve long been sold on Bennett’s coaching acumen. I just feel his style of play is much more conducive to close/tight games no matter the opponent as opposed to maximizing opportunities (today notwithstanding, of course). Not the greatest thing for ‘survive and advance’ IMO.
Edit: Also, if UVa is not converting on a majority of their offensive opportunities then results like @ Tennessee can happen, in addition to what happened to them in last season’s ACC and NCAA tournaments.
wufpup76KeymasterV-berg, I love ya … but Anya has made his case
wufpup76KeymasterYes, Bennett-ball is whipping us today – but this game’s current situation has a ton to do w/ NC State and not all Bennett-ball.
We saw what last season’s NC State ‘team’ did to Bennett-ball in the Acc Tournament. I’ll take State’s style of play every day of the week and 10 times on Sunday over Bennett’s. Some defense would be nice, though. Stop turning the ball over too … that’d be good.
I think Bennett is a good coach, but agree w/ Bjd’s assessment that Bennett’s preferred style is extremely limiting come post-season. Don’t see a lot of Final Four runs out of Virginia or Wisconsin.
wufpup76KeymasterBad defense leads to pressing on offense and subsequent turnovers. Careless turnovers leads to pressing on offense and defense, making both bad. A vicious cycle.
wufpup76KeymasterHoly sh*t. We’ve made this entirely too easy for them. Turnovers and bad defense.
Pittsburgh 2nd half redux.
wufpup76KeymasterAwww … you mean it’s not ‘Friday’ yet???
I’m sensing photoshop opportunities!
This pic is screaming out to have PJ, a gun, some weed, and Dickie B in it
wufpup76Keymaster^Agree totally. I’m no fan of Le Betard either, but he had some valid points in this little episode.
wufpup76KeymasterThanks Russia, I wasn’t around to answer SqlWolf’s query.
I was surprised James got ejected on that elbow, but there was really no doubt about it. Of course, it’s always surprising when the rules apply to Carolina.
wufpup76Keymaster“But his veteran players, in particular, have smoothed things over very well to this point.”
^What a concept, haha. Very impressive ladies, keep going!
‘The Carolina Way’ needs some more comeuppance.
wufpup76Keymaster^It will be interesting to see what, if any, conduct clauses are in the contract.
I’d imagine Louisville / the AD has some CYA clauses in said contract – be shocked if they didn’t. Guys like Petrino don’t seem to heed lessons learned … I’m tempted to put an over/under on the number of seasons before he jumps ship – again.
But, you never know … this may be the start of a 10+ year marriage. Or not.
01/08/2014 at 3:15 PM in reply to: New Bloomberg turns its attention to UNC Faculty Council Chair Boxill #36289wufpup76Keymaster“One of the most dismaying aspects of the UNC affair is that top university officials have consistently tried to obfuscate the connection between the Athletic Department’s goal of fielding top-flight teams and the creation of hundreds of phony classes going back to the early 1990s.”
^Never thought I’d see that in print.
wufpup76Keymaster“When the guards learn how to run this offense and they have Anya, Washington and Freeman to work with on the interior we are going to be very, very, good.”
^100% agree. Lot of encouraging signs from last night’s game – not the least of which was the win.
The team may not reach peak/optimal half-court efficiency this season, but they are taking steps in the right direction. I have to keep reminding myself it is by and large a young and inexperienced team. Everyone is learning – I think it will get better.
wufpup76Keymaster^I don’t quite agree w/ the doghouse – Barber does so many other things well, not the least of which is his (on ball) defense. For a program that has struggled so badly with defense under Lowe and for large parts of the Gottfried reign, we can’t afford to sit someone with Barber’s prowess for very long.
I think Gottfried is doing pretty good w/ respect to Barber. He’s young and has a lot to learn about offensive flow – but rather than bench him for the remainder of the game we gave Lee some looks up top. It’s a learning process – thank goodness we have Lewis to be able to come in.
After tonight, I have confidence it will get better.
wufpup76KeymasterDefense deserves some kudos tonight, and rebounding … Wasn’t always pretty, but they got the job done.
The 1-2-2 trapping worked well for us.
wufpup76KeymasterAwesome job team … Especially from the free throw line.
Fun to win! Glad they proved me wrong – I definitely did not like our chances tonight.
wufpup76KeymasterWe excel at going under screens
wufpup76KeymasterWay to go Barber
wufpup76Keymasterglad I was wrong
wufpup76KeymasterGood foul for them … Buckets awful in 1+1
wufpup76KeymasterClearly not going to get a call, so hope we make something wild
wufpup76KeymasterCrowd seems like it doesn’t even care lol … funny
wufpup76KeymasterPlease make them Cat
wufpup76KeymasterOh my
wufpup76KeymasterWell, here it comes …
wufpup76KeymasterAs for the ‘me’ ball, it seems the players know that the halfcourt offense isn’t working as intended – so they revert to what they know ‘can’ work.
I think it’s a good group, but young and a ways to go.
