Lots of sweeps this weekend changes the ACC Baseball Tourney seeding landscape a bit, but (so far) the same 10 teams are in. Miami’s sweep of Clemson coupled with UVa taking 2 of 3 from FSU separates the top 3 teams with Miami taking the top line all by themselves. FSU stays at #2 despite dropping the UVa series (the 2 division winners get the top two seeds).

Duke’s sweep of Wake moves them up to #4, Carolina up to #5 courtesy of their sweep of the Hokies.

As mentioned earlier, the Pack moves to within a half game of UMd, which was swept by BC.

    Miami 19-5
    FSU 17-7
    UVa 18-6
    Duke 15-9
    Carolina 13-11
    Clemson 12-11
    Wake 12-12
    GT 12-12
    Pitt 9-12
    Maryland 9-14
    ——OUT——
    NCSU 9-15
    BC 8-16
    VT 7-17
    ND 4-17

State hosts Coastal Carolina next weekend out of conference (probably no preview will be forthcoming, but we’ll see) and has no mid-week games this coming week.

Pack tops GT 7-1 on Sunday to take the series.

BC sweeps UMd, moving the Pack within 1/2 game of UMd for the #10 slot for the ACC Tourney, with BC a game behind the Pack.

Carolina/VT tied at 4 in the 8th. A VT win would have them tied with BC.

^ Think of it as a lot of small rushes separated by long periods of depression.

Chance Shepherd 7th inning solo shot is the difference, Pack takes game two 1-0.

Pack can manage only 3 hits as GT takes game one 1-0.
Rodon with 15Ks, goes the distance for the CG loss (3-7).

^ Yeah, I kinda had that negative reverse mojo in mind when I wrote the entry, truth be told.

I had always heard the urban legends/rumors (?) re: taking a potty break there, but I was never approached in any fashion.

    I guess I just wasn’t homo-attractive. Not certain how I feel about that….I think I might be insulted. 😀

And since when did PBR or Budweiser become hipster?

Pack falls at home tonight to Campbell 9-0 (and it was not as close as the score would indicate), officially moving this season from the ugly/disappointing shelf to the cringe-worthy shelf.

Despite its valued usage as a temporary shield to the elements on rainy days, I have no love for that hideous monstrosity.

Among other classes, I took Invertebrate Zoology there, which at the time was taught by the meanest (and quite possibly homicidal) grandma-ma ever put on the planet. She was the only one who taught it (lab too), and she literally wrote the book, as they say. I opted for the once per week 3+ hour class to minimize the suffering, but since she was just as boring as she was mean, that was a huge mistake. Thanked God the day I finished that final, lemme tell ya.

Pack falls to BC 9-7 in 11 innings Sunday. BC wins its first ACC series of the year.
Yep, that’s right….even Notre Dame, with only 3 conference wins TOTAL, was able to to take 2/3 from these guys.

Pack is now 7 games below .500 in league play (7-14) with 9 to play.

^ I’m (almost) ashamed to admit that my first thought after reading that was “Too bad we can’t play ourselves”.

Pack falls Saturday night to BC by a 7-5 final.

Interestingly (or not), Pack hitters launched 3 round trippers tonight (including two off the bat of Trea Turner). BC pitching had previously yielded only six HRs total on the year.

Olczak works a scoreless (even if somewhat shaky) 9th to preserve Carlos Rodon’s 3rd win of the season, 5-1 final over BC in game one.

Most of my life I’ve been fairly active, and yet I’ve never been one for distance running. I’d rather swim a mile than run a mile. The only good reason to run that far is if someone is chasing you.

And even then, weapons and/or hiding would be preferable.

Bringing this back up because of this article (and because it’s dead as shit around here this weekend).

    http://www.cbssports.com/collegebasketball/writer/doug-gottlieb/24522621/around-the-country-looking-back-at-uconn-kentucky

The article, written by Doug Gottlieb, also has this interesting opening paragraph…

Will Mike Krzyzewski disciple Steve Wojciechowski succeed as the new coach at Marquette? It’s a reasonable question to ask. As coaching trees spread, we so often look for results of the mentored to affirm the greatness of the mentor, and so it is with Coach K. Is that fair? Not really. Billy Donovan doesn’t coach like Rick Pitino, nor does Herb Sendek, yet both are former Pitino aides who have had very different levels of success.

Carlos Rodon (2 runs allowed, 1 earned) takes the loss (2-6) in spite of fanning 12 batters, as the Devils limit the Pack to 3 base hits en route to a 2-0 win in game one.

With the 12 Ks tonight, Rodon is now the all time career strikeout leader at NCSU.

Excellent look at the landscape Va. I enjoyed this very much.

It reinforces what I already had thought as well. Of course, my own eyeball-ish analysis was limited to the question “If there’s so much parity, then why do the talking heads gush over the likes of Wichita State, Butler, George Mason, etc. when they get their moment(s) in the sun?”

It’ll be interesting to see how much longer Scary Wheat holds onto Marshall.
