WTNYParticipant
Thanks for the video. Don’t know if you have input but I would suggest changing the voice if possible.
WTNYParticipantAdventuroo — Poulton (or Poultry as we called him) was chancellor during most of the 80s.
Back on topic — everyone but the wild-eyed Walmart fans know Roy is neck deep in this thing. He’ll get away with it, but the stink is all over him.
WTNYParticipant[State] can’t keep losing forever.
Sounds like our motto. Maybe I should change my nickname from WTNY to WTF. OK, maybe not. 😉
WTNYParticipant…bowl hopes alive …
GSU and ODU were pretty clear signals that this season was going to be a repeat of last season. The FSU game was the annual play-over-our-head game. (Ah for the times when we would win one of those.) But the Clemson game should have been a freight train for even the most optimistic fan.
“Bowl hopes?” The only hope I have left is the possibility of beating Wake.
WTNYParticipantConnecticut newspaper doesn’t hold back:
How do a few years of lousy APR scores involving a dozen basketball players stack up against 18 years of staggeringly massive academic fraud involving 3,100 students, 47 percent athletes, getting A’s in phony African and Afro-American studies classes?
And how much gold should North Carolina, part of the Power Five monopoly, forfeit for engaging in the most egregious and widespread academic sham in NCAA history?
10/23/2014 at 8:39 PM in reply to: UNC Football coach, Larry Fedora admits to not caring about players academics #59799WTNYParticipantOf course the real comparison is dadgum Ol’ Roy. He has been the coach since, what, 2004? I think that’s during the AFAM scandal window, no?
Let’s substitute some names:
Ross’s report faulted Williams for failure to provide adequate oversight of players’ academic progress and for encouraging course loads designed to maintain athletic eligibility rather than to form “a coherent program of study.”
Hmmm. That does work!
WTNYParticipantThe Minnesota comparison is great!
What penalties did Minnesota pay?
The National Collegiate Athletic Association placed the University of Minnesota men’s basketball program on probation for four years yesterday, took away five scholarships and put limits on recruiting contacts for what the organization called the most serious violations to come before it in 20 years.
More interesting:
The N.C.A.A. also ordered that team records from the N.C.A.A. tournament and National Invitation Tournament — and the tournament records of players who engaged in academic fraud from 1993-94 through 1998-99 — be erased.
In addition, all references to the program’s success those years — including its 1997 Final Four appearance — must be expunged from everything from recruiting brochures to the banners in the university’s field house.
From NYTimes 10/25/2000: Minnesota Penalized by N.C.A.A.
WTNYParticipantMatt Doherty is a former Tar Heel player who went on to coach at the University of Notre Dame before being recruited to Chapel Hill as head coach in 2000. Doherty explained that upon assuming the coaching position, he inherited the academic support system developed by prior coaches Dean Smith and Bill Guthridge. That system had academic oversight being handled by McSwain, the counselor with close ties to Debby Crowder. While he felt free to make significant changes to the rest of the team’s coaching and support staff, Doherty was told by Smith and Guthridge, who both had a continued presence on campus,, that he should not change the academic support system. As a result, the McSwain-Crowder pipeline continued to operate, and there were 42 enrollments of men’s basketball players in paper classes during Doherty’s tenure.
From PackPride. Haven’t validated. But if true, BOOM! Started with the nose!
WTNYParticipantIt’s not possible for us to win by enough on Saturday.
I’m just hoping it’s possible for us to win, period.
The “battle for the bottom” with Wake will be quite a doozy in a few weeks.
09/04/2014 at 7:54 AM in reply to: Carolina Way: “ignoring unethical & immoral activities until forced to respond by the media” #55378WTNYParticipantTo TheCowDog’s point:
UNC / Liberty: Stories that didn’t make the story
During the game on Saturday night, Boyer seemed engaged on the sideline. Teammates talked to him. He participated in meetings with the rest of UNC’s receivers. He participated in the big huddles with the rest of the offense before UNC started a drive. Then, in fourth quarter, he played for the first time.
Good grief. Such an obvious kiss-and-makeup effort. I predict it works and the latest scandal will fit under that ever growing rug.
WTNYParticipantAs much as I despise UNC-Ch athletics, I have to admire their PR skill. They rival the best in Washington DC.
WTNYParticipantBut how long will Petrino last?
WTNYParticipantDeCock: UNC athletic, academic case not over yet, nor is it anywhere close —
What began as a probe into impermissible benefits in the football program – Marvin Austin and Greg Little, please step forward – uncovered agents afoot and soon crossed over into academic misconduct, with detours covering a U-Haul truck filled with drugs, South Beach clubs and a tutor who handed out cash to players, wrote papers for them and worked as an in-home instructor for Butch Davis’ son.
One tutor led to one plagiarized paper that led to one transcript that led to one department full of phony classes that led to one inadequate and very expensive report that led to one whistleblower that led to many, many protestations and recriminations from the second North Carolina administration to trumpet jargon-laden “reforms” instead of real action.
Beautiful. Read the whole thing!
WTNYParticipantPlug and play replacement for BSW
Actually, he is the replacement for a transfer “to be named” at the end of next season. We are now recruiting players to replace transfers that have yet to occur.
*Sigh*
WTNYParticipantWTNYParticipantSome of the players were excited: NC State Football Helmet Unveil – Team Reaction
WTNYParticipantYouTube: Coming …. Fall 2014: Pack in Black
WTNYParticipantBest wishes to TJ.
What strikes me about that list is the lack of Seniors. Out of 30, 5 are seniors (and 2 are international so I’m unsure of their “class”).
Less than 25% of the top 30 are seniors!
When you factor in all the transfers, I find it hard to plug in to the ACC like I did years ago.
WTNYParticipantStill can’t get used to the ACC version 5.0.
I’m looking at the schedule wondering why the following games are on the list:
* Ohio State at Louisville
* Pittsburgh at Indiana
* Syracuse at Michigan
* Michigan State at Notre DameI have to stop and think: “Which one is the ACC team?”
And then there is this:
* Virginia at MarylandI’m living in an alternate universe or a time warp. Back to normal time, please!
WTNYParticipantThey look like a bad superhero team. Especially the goof on the left.
03/16/2014 at 5:25 PM in reply to: Billy Donovan: NBA age limit should be lowered, not raised #46947WTNYParticipantThe solution is further down in the article:
I will now take this opportunity to promote for the 500th time my preferred course of action: two-or-none instead of one-and-done. If you want to jump straight to the NBA, it works for a player like Andrew Wiggins or Jabari Parker, who are ready right out of college. For players who need the development, give them two years to learn the fundamentals.
WTNYParticipantYou guys are just torturing yourselves. We are headed to the Not Invited Tournament.
WTNYParticipant27 Years and counting ….
WTNYParticipantWTNY
WTNYParticipantI’ve seen about a hundred of these State v *NC games…
I am pretty sure I have already seen tonight’s game at least once….The fun part is I don’t know which one… so I GOTT to watch to find out.
I’ve seen tonight’s game too. I don’t know which one, but I know what kind. The bad kind.
