WTNYParticipant
All of the Pack’s scores make for great highlights, and that is precisely the problem.
We had zero scoring drives down the field. In fact, looking at the stats, all of our scores were from the other side of the 50.
That ain’t going to cut it going forward.
WTNYParticipantThe long Wolfpack nightmare is over!
WTNYParticipantWe need a kicker, not a cement mixer ….
WTNYParticipantAt what point does the “NC State hasn’t won in Winston-Salem since 2001” talk impact the team?
Not a hit on SFN, heck every forum post / blog / fan says it every other year.
But does the team hear it so much that it seeps into their subconscious? When we have a bad break tomorrow, will the team just shrug and say, “oh well, that’s what happens in W-S?”
Of course I want to beat UNC-Cheat more than any other team, but after that game, I want this one more than all the others.
WTNYParticipantThank you DrWuffette1Day for the detail.
WTNYParticipantPackOfMac:
From other posts, the steps are: 1) Accredited 2) Warning 3) Probation 4) Remove Accreditation
You can go from 1 to 3, like just happened to UNC-Ch, but you can’t go directly from 1 to 4.
As I understand it, skipping the Warning phase is a big deal.
WTNYParticipantHow ’bout we go back to ’73?
The opportunity for ACC / National titles in 1973 was ripped from the Wolfpack thanks to Guthridge and Smith.
Compare the “impermissible benefits” accorded to DT versus those accorded to hundreds of UNC-Ch athletes, including men’s bball in 2005 and 2009.
WTNYParticipantDid the NOA mention 2005 or 2009 specifically? YES!
- Note that some of the dates of the specific items have been curiously redacted.
- Allegation #5 is for the years 2002-03 through 2010-11
- Here is one mention during the 2005 season
FI118: January 5, 2005 – Email from Crowder to Walden. This includes, but is not limited to, Crowder discussing men’s basketball student-athletes and the courses to which she added them.
WTNYParticipantDid the findings actually list men’s basketball and football? YES!
Allegation #5
…
Specifically, individuals in the academic
administration on campus, particularly in
the college of arts and sciences, did not
sufficiently monitor the AFRI/AFAM and
ASPSA departments or provide appropriate supervision for these academic units
and their staffs. The AFRI/AFAM department created anomalous courses that
went unchecked for 18 years. This allowed individuals within ASPSA to use these
courses through special arrangements to maintain the eligibility of academically
at-risk student-athletes, particularly in the sports of football, men’s basketball and
women’s basketball.

(Item2_CrowderToWalden_010505_NorthCarolina_0WTNYParticipantOh, something has been left out.
First, the LOIC casts a pall on the entire athletic department. They cheated, systematically, in order to benefit multiple sports.
Second, the NOA includes football and men’s basketball in the cheating. Both are mentioned numerous times.
Happy Ctrl-F!
WTNYParticipantWhile some, such as CowDog, are hearing the holes are getting hit pretty hard, various people from UNC-Ch including — ‘Ole Dadgum Roy and the Hat — are saying that basketball and football will skate.
I doubt Williams and Fedora would say such on the eve of a spanking.
I guess the key is to make sure regular students are in on the cheating and you are A-OK with the NCAA…
WTNYParticipantAlias, I’m not saying UNC should win the title next year, just that they think they have a very good chance and that may be influencing their decision making.
At this point IF there is to be some kind of post-season ban in basketball, we would want them to postpone it. That way it drags out longer and impacts recruiting.
However, I’m afraid there will not be significant penalties. Probation, a fine, maybe a lesser sport takes a hit, and a stern “don’t do it again” is my bet.
WTNYParticipantThey received the NOA 3 weeks ago and still crickets. That one must be a monster.
That and/or they are delaying their response as long as possible to push a possible post-season basketball ban beyond this coming season, their best chance in years.
WTNYParticipantWelcome to the Pack Shaun Kirk!
04/29/2015 at 11:22 AM in reply to: The last 24 hours haven’t been stellar for Mark Gottfried #85874WTNYParticipantThis is why the title makes a difference. It gets picked up on webpages giving the totally wrong impression about the situation and state of our program.
http://sportspyder.com/teams/nc-state-wolfpack-basketball/news
Thank you and well said.
SFN not only reports news/opinion, it also can make news.
WTNYParticipantThere were plenty of people happy with Kirk’s commitment.
WTNYParticipantThe Kentucky offer has me a little nervous. Hopefully Gott gets his signature on an LOI quickly.
Update: Kirk is going to evaluate the Kentucky offer. (It’s never easy being a Wolfpack fan)
Obviously the biased opinion of a State fan, but are non-5 stars wise to go to Kentucky? You ARE going to get recruited over, probably 3 times.
WTNYParticipantKentucky offered Kirk as well
WTNYParticipantIf anyone thinks the SACS is going to suspend UNC-Ch’s accreditation, I have some swampland for sale. NO WAY that happens. The SACS will talk sternly, hem and haw, and in the end say, “don’t do that again.”
And as is frequently the case, the DBR post is nauseating:
… And from a conference point of view, a crippled UNC helps no one. Duke and UNC basically pay the bills. …
*barf*
Of course a Duke fan would forget about football’s contribution to the ACC coffers.
WTNYParticipantRegarding MVS — those comments were more like a pro coach talking. I imagine AD Yow will have a word with Doeren about them.
Regarding the overall article, it makes me hungry for football!
WTNYParticipantGosh, I’ve never thought, or heard, or read about this topic – NOT.
Please drop this dead horse topic, NC State fans.
DEAD HORSE!
WTNYParticipantKH going this year would be the perfect example of why the drafting rules have to be changed.
Say KH goes this year because the NBA dangles a carrot. Probably ends up being undrafted. Say he squeaks into the end of the 2nd round. Still gets no guaranteed money, the NBA will flush him, and then he does not have enough talent to make it in Europe. And he has no college degree.
WTNYParticipantMaybe Doeren can build something.
WTNYParticipantOh, to return to the days when players stayed 4 years. When you knew everyone on all the teams in the league. Now we don’t even know all the players on NC State they change so much.
But it’s a result of the way the kids are brought up. They start playing earlier, play year-round, and are told they are the MAN by the time they hit 10 years old.
Everyone expects to play all the time from Nov of their freshman year.
College basketball is less and less enjoyable each year. Yuck.
WTNYParticipantDeadline to withdraw and return to college basketball was yesterday.
He’s gone.
And so are any hopes of an ACC title next year. Will be 29 years and counting…
