I’m not ready to see Gott fired just yet. However, the shine has definitely worn off for me. At the end of this season, I think we need to evaluate where we are as a program and Debby should set down some guidelines going forward. If you play crappy ball, eventually there will be a lot of empty seats in the PNC. UVA was no powerhouse either and has suffered through some bad coaches but they didn’t settle. Neither should we.

Virginia hires BYU coach Mendenhall for $3.25 million a year and he will get to coach BYU in their bowl game to try for his 100th win. This is a great hire for UVA – much better than I thought they would do.

BJ at 1 of 6 from the line could be wearing a blind fold and do better. Seriously, don’t they practice those?

Our big men seem to stand around a lot on offense and I’ve never seen so many 3 foot shots not go down. I’m pretty depressed by what I’ve seen so far this season. If the rest of the team doesn’t soon step up, Cat will feel he has to do it all.

Here’s hoping we can abuse Marquise without taking him out. I just want him shaken up enough to through several picks. We are in the car headed to the game from VA. With any luck we’ll find some tickets at the game without getting abused ourselves. If anyone has two extra tickets, let me know how to reach you at the stadium. Go Pack.

I didn’t want this to get buried in all the spam below. PP took down the tickets entry and Craigslist is selling way above face value so this is our best chance. Appreciate it if anyone would like to sell their tickets for this one. Haven’t been to Raleigh this year and am hoping my wife and I can enjoy a weekend away. Thanks.

    That would be “two” tickets.

Congratulations Pack – very impressive win. I was please to see us pull ahead early so many of the new players could get some valuable PT. We seem to be strong at nearly all positions. Our O-line and running backs were great. My only concerns last night were a couple of less than stellar kicks (which hasn’t been the norm) and getting burned on the long passes. This second issue seems to have been a problem over the years (our more experienced player(s)). Hopefully some adjustments will be made there. Looking forward to Louisville this week.

Given the period it was constructed, I’m sure it has plenty of asbestos fire proofing, pipe insulation, floor tiles, adhesives and more. They would have to be removed anyway even if the building was slated for demolition so I’m not sure that they factor in to the decision to renovate.

As a life long facilities management guy, I think this solution is the best one could hope for. It keeps the building functioning as an active athletics facility, provides a great location for housing our heritage and preserves our memories at a reasonable cost. I don’t see any other solution to achieving all four. My wife and I attended every home game I can remember from 79 – 81 (since we could afford no other entertainment as married students) alternating who would stand in line for seats closest to the floor at mid court. We have a lot of great memories in that building and I am thrilled to see this project under way. We attended the NIT game their a few years ago and while nice to be back in the building it was kind of sad looking. I’m anxious to see the finished project and hope they make a huge deal out of the ribbon cutting and invite back all the former athletes as a tribute to them all. It’s not just the building we should honor but those that were on the floor/court. Thanks to all your who we watched for those great memories.

From the ribbing standpoint, they will all take some grieve. However, anyone that took a single AFAM class and has that on their transcript is subject to questions about if a future employer or Grad School admissions person choses to look at the details of what they took while an undergrad.

Wishing you a speedy recovery Lennard. I’m looking forward to this coming season to see what Gott can pull out of his bag of tricks this year and hope to see you back on the court soon.

Actually, there are a lot of similarities between Watergate and the UNC Academic/Athletic Scandal. You have the advisors who were the like the plumbers getting the job done, you got Mary “Deep Throat” passing along tips to Dan Kane as Woodward or Berstein and others. I can picture the other Watergate players but its been so many years I can’t recall the names. This would be a fun game to match all the key Watergate figures with the current cast of characters on the Hill.

^ That’s the conclusion I came to right away when this first broke. I thought surely the faculty will not let this drag down the entire University but that’s exactly what they’ve allowed to happen. Time to pay the piper. I guess a cover-up is sort of like mission creep – See tricky Dick Nixon.

You would think, more than anyone else at UNC, the Chancellor would stand up for the academic integrity of the school. She has shown herself to be another mouth piece for the UNC PR machine. When the faculty finally finds their ballsack, hopefully they’ll send her packing too for her role in the continued cover-up, deflection and denial.

The other thing I’ve been wondering about is all those un-earned degrees. Wouldn’t SACs be wanting UNC to recall those in order to preserve the integrity of the degrees granted for those students who were in “real” classes. Some of the athletes were said to have taken as many of five of the AM paper classes. If they were given a diploma, that amounts to a whole semester’s worth of class work they didn’t have to do. All of this is just wrong on so many levels. Glad I’m not holding a degree from there. After this, the legitimacy of it will forever be questioned. There in lies the second group of folks, after the professors, who should really be pissed.

Still waiting for law enforcement to get engaged for the fraud perpetrated on the tax payers. Not the NC ones, but all of U.S. since a lot of Federal dollars pass them through grants.

Time is on our side. This ball started rolling very slowing and is finally finding some traction.

The below link from an ABC 11 News story will take you to Carol Folt’s response to the SACS probation:

    Message from Chancellor Carol Folt
What a bunch of BS. She’s all in too.

The University has worked very hard and in complete good faith to provide the Commission with an expansive range of information to demonstrate our compliance with the Commission’s principles, standards and requirements. We have the utmost confidence in our present compliance and in the effectiveness of the many reforms implemented in recent years and will embrace the opportunity during the one-year period of probation to prove that even further. We owe that to the University’s rich and revered history, to our current students, faculty and staff and indeed to the entire Carolina community.

Thanks for the link. My favorite quote from that article:

SACS vice president Cheryl Cardell told UNC-Chapel Hill officials in a November letter that Wainstein’s findings didn’t jibe with information the university provided to the accrediting organization in 2013, when officials insisted the fraud was limited to the activities of two people in the Department of African and Afro-American Studies.

Surely Ms. Cardell is not implying UNC lied to them. There must be some mistake. What’s next, double secret probation.

Thanks. I learned a lot. Coach Gott has definitely upgraded the schedule and which I think has added to the interest level in the BB program. Hopefully FB will follow suit as the program continues to improved.

^ An excellent read, thanks. That article sums up what UNC should do rather nicely. Of course, unlike the stock market, past performance is an excellent indicator for future performance at UNC so I think we know which path they will take. Maybe they’ll also quietly retire “The Carolina Way” tag line. They can’t afford the price tag of living up to what they say that means and not many people outside of die hard baby blues believe it anyway. Talk about trashing your brand.

I just read the entire document and a lot of names were mentioned. Its time for the Feds to step in and arrest them all for violating the RICO Act:

The Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, commonly referred to as the RICO Act or simply RICO, is a United States federal law that provides for extended criminal penalties and a civil cause of action for acts performed as part of an ongoing criminal organization.

I wonder if PackPride or Dan Kane will get mentioned in UNCs response to the section on how they discovered the infractions.

One thought occurred to me regarding the why the NCAA might have focused on impermissible benefits. If they were to hand down violations centered on academic fraud, wouldn’t that amount to proving the case for the former athletes who are suing UNC for defrauding them out of an education in exchange for playing sports? This would not be good for the NCAA or other schools that jettison players once their eligibility is used up or provided similar bogus classes just to keep them on the team without making progress toward a real degree.

Wonder if Swofford will attend the hearing this time around? If I were he, I’d be thinking about joining Jed out on Lake Gaston.
