wolfpack92owenParticipant
what a complete joke our program is now
good luck recruiting Gott with this type of history
wolfpack92owenParticipantI guess I am the only one that still values a college degree. I get the kid and all but that is short sighted. The rules are now set up in favor of the player/student where they can go get evaluated and get honest feedback. Not sure why he decided to get an agent. His playing career (where ever that may be) will be short in the grand scheme of things and after that without a degree is he playing catch up. At NCSU he has above average training and one on one coaching to help him work on his weaknesses. I miss the game of the 80’s where people stayed there full time for the most part.
That said good luck Cat

One former player thinks so. #101277wolfpack92owenParticipantAs much as I LOVED the atmosphere in Reynolds even in the late ’70’s it was aged out. Not sure the PNC was the right move but it is what it is for now. Next go maybe an on campus arena – an on campus solution might be the best idea for a future arena but that is probably decades away at the closest. Reynolds (even before the makeovers) had already out lived its life span for college men’s basketball for NC State. As a venue for the women’s program maybe the right size with the latest remake. I’m glad there is a use for the hallowed ground rather than razing the building.
What does aged out even mean? It was the perfect and the most unique experience of watching college bball. Hot, the bathrooms were a joke, you could feel the air vibrating. It was unlike anything else in college sports. Such a mistake to leave and we havent benefited one bit from the move. You simply cannot argue that. We had the crown jewel in college sports and not only walked away from it we blew it up to make sure we could never return.
wolfpack92owenParticipantIs there any word on how Henderson is actually doing? Seems like an odd injury that kept him out the entire season? Also will be interesting to see how Freeman does this off season. Kid looked really hurt the last month. Another surgery in order?
wolfpack92owenParticipantHe aint coming back. No way, no how. Thanks for a great run kid, you played your heart out. I dont know jack squat about the NBA but I have to believe that someone is going to gamble on you in the middle of the 1rst.
wolfpack92owenParticipantDino, Gott and Avent. Holy crap, look at N Raleigh. If nothing else hiring Dino would be entertaining.
wolfpack92owenParticipantNo VA – I don’t think you make a change this year. But like I said, I expect us to go to the tourney, probably seeded somewhere between a 7-11 seed.
We could have great talent and depth. Unfortunately, if history is any indicator, we won’t use that talent to get after it on defense or throw a ton of different player combinations at our opposition. But make no mistake, the team will be capable of having a great year in conference and making a deep run in the tournament. If it does neither of those things or if defections reduce our talent level to where the bubble represents another great coaching effort, then well…
I dont see where people are getting this. We are a 5 win team and we are losing the best player from it. Keeping the same players essentially, adding nobody in the frontcourt that is already pretty bad and only adding an injured 5 star pg, which is notoriously the hardest position to learn. Yeah I know we get Dorn and hopefully Henderson back but call me skeptical in their ability to contribute to make next years team a lock to make the tourney.
wolfpack92owenParticipantwhats wrong with speculating?
wolfpack92owenParticipantAs to this offseason I would bet we see at least one “WTF” departure.
Didn’t you already predict that Shaun Kirk would transfer out?
Not sure if I “predicted” it but it certainly wouldnt surprise me. I think a “WTF” departure would be Abu, Mav or the Twins. I have zero inside info just quantifying what I think a “WTF” departure would be. If Kirk isnt getting minutes during this dumpster fire of a season and with Freeman on one leg then him leaving shouldnt really surprise any one.
wolfpack92owenParticipantFrom all appearances DSJ is the only freshman we will get. Rumors are we will be trolling the post grads for some more help.
If that’s the case, I find that unacceptable. Last year all we heard was this was the big recruiting year. I can look past bringing in 1 bench warmer for 1 year if you are stacked. But to only bring in a probable 1 and done the very next year is lunacy. If you are going to have a transfer heavy program, you should at least run your own ‘waiver wire” on the back end to enable talent development.
Jesus Christ than that means 2017 we will be historically bad.
We have to hope Henderson and Dorn are as good as the coaches believe them to be and that DSJ is as good as advertised. The concern is none of the three have played competitive ball in over a year and two are coming off of major injuries. Who knows about the big men.
Honestly, we don’t have much to base an opinion on either way, there are just too many unknowns. I would guess we will start really slow and then we will squeak into the tournament and win a game or two. But that is more based on Gott’s past norms than anything else.
The 2017-18 season Henderson and DSJ will both be gone. We are really shallow in regards to Frosh and soph.
As to this offseason I would bet we see at least one “WTF” departure.

wolfpack92owenParticipantDoes anyone know definitively what the hell happened to Henderson and why it has taken months and he still cannot practice?
02/25/2016 at 10:24 AM in reply to: A Victory Over the Tarheels Would Salvage an Average Season #100133wolfpack92owenParticipantThe hell of it is, we’re getting worse.
Granted I am an eternally pessimistic State fan and I always look at the negative. Thats what years of State fail has done to me but I see next year with our new qb and schedule to be a ugly season. The schedule doesnt do us any favors. As to Bball we lose Cat and as you mentioned above holy hell the offense may be beyond putrid if a true frosh pg is supposed to be the savior.
So as to your last comment I totally agree.
02/25/2016 at 10:16 AM in reply to: A Victory Over the Tarheels Would Salvage an Average Season #100131wolfpack92owenParticipantNot sure 46-34 (basically an average of 9-7 in the days of the 16 game ACC slate) qualifies as “a ton”.
But then again, I didn’t know 4-10 was considered average so….WTF do I know?“ton” may have been the wrong word, but Herb was finishing relatively high in the ACC.
I thought it was time for him to go.
I cannot believe we are debating herbert on the day after the UNC game. That shows the depths of where we are right now.
02/25/2016 at 10:09 AM in reply to: A Victory Over the Tarheels Would Salvage an Average Season #100128wolfpack92owenParticipantHerbert was winning and recruiting at a pretty high clip his last 4-5 years.
Better than his first five years?…yep.
Better than Sid?…absolutely.
Better than this year?…sure. But if Herb had actually been winning and recruiting at a high level, then the Great Herb Debate would have never gotten started.
I guess it would define winning. He was winning a ton of ACC games and finishing high. He just was flaming out in the tourney.
His recruiting was good though based on rankings, you cant argue that. In business, and NCAA sports are a business, sometimes you have to part ways. After 10 years it was just time for NCSU and Herb to split. He just wasnt doing or saying the right things for the fan base. I truly think we are at the same point with Gott. We paid him millions and he got us some positive attention but now I think its just time to go each others way. It just happens.

I wish I was smart enough to understand what this means
02/25/2016 at 8:09 AM in reply to: A Victory Over the Tarheels Would Salvage an Average Season #100119wolfpack92owenParticipantThis season is anything but average. It will be the first time in a long time (back to the HWSNBN) that I’ll be glad when the season is mercifully over. I feel like we’re as trapped as with HWSNBN’s second 5 years.
I stopped bothering. I cannot stomach watching us play.
And IMO we are stuck worse than under Sendek.Herbert was winning and recruiting at a pretty high clip his last 4-5 years. Gott now, not so much. I watched the game last night with a friend of Purcell. He thinks even with a stinker next year that Gott isnt going anywhere. That gott me depressed for the rest of the night.
As long as Yow is here, Gott is here.
Pretty much what he said verbatim. I laughed, I cried then I just became numb again. Would be nice to have a consistently solid bball and football teams. Not this scattershot crap we have now.

02/24/2016 at 5:31 PM in reply to: A Victory Over the Tarheels Would Salvage an Average Season #100073wolfpack92owenParticipantWhile I appreciate the article and the “rah rah” aspect you are aiming for but alas a victory tonight doesnt really move the needle much as far as the season goes. Its been a dumpster fire.
wolfpack92owenParticipantI expect UNC to win by 10-15 points. Aside from their brain fart in the last minute against Duke, they are actually playing really well right now. Crushed Miami, crushed Pitt and should have beaten Duke.
Sadly but true, Roy doesnt really eff around in these types of games. Hope I am wrong.
wolfpack92owenParticipantI see if differently and will admit to some “unsettling feelings”. If you want to play the blame game for this season, I say the first finger should be pointed directly at Lacey. I think he let himself down, and a whole lot of other people. He had the potential to do something great, but he choose to take the immediate gratification of taking what he could get for himself. He certainly let Gott down, who I have no doubt treated him like a son. He let his teammates down, and he let his school and all of its fans down. Sure, we all have to look out for ourselves, but he was getting good advice and he didn’t take it.
I think we know exactly what “advise” he got. Don’t do it. You have no chance to be drafted. You do have the chance lead a team that has the potential to compete for a championship. You have a chance to dramatically increase your stock. You have a chance to work on your education and prepare yourself for life after basketball. He choose to ignore it all and do what he wanted to do. Of course, we all make our decisions and live with the consequences, but I think he made a really bad one. Hopefully, it is working out well for him, but he gave up the chance to do something really great for himself, his coach, his teammates, and his school.
Again I am still unsure of what advise he may have gotten or was it just the guilt trip by the family as Hendu suggested one time on TOS.
I dont think we would have been contenders even if he came back. The same problems would still be here. Lack of defense, poor front court, no depth at the guard position. Plus I doubt we get Mav if he comes back.
wolfpack92owenParticipantQuestion: Does anyone hold any animosity or “unsettling” feelings over the Lacey defection? Yeah, can’t blame him for taking the money even though he knew it wouldn’t be NBA money. Does he stay another year and hope for NBA money, or did he realize what his potential was, financially? That Europe was the limit? If he did realize it, why would he not risk injury for one more year of D-1 ACC basketball to see what he might have become? Did he sell himself short? Geico might make a “settler” commercial about him, as unsettling as it might be.
I certainly hold no animosity to the kid but IMO it made no sense for him to transfer to play one year.
Just another bizarre case in the history of NCSU sports. I would love to know just exactly what “advise” he received.
