BjD: Amen brother. One has to also question why she was allowed to sign a coach with certain red flags to the type of contract that she did. Seriously, who is going to buy out Gott?

I asked this in 2015 when he got that raise and ext. With the friendship and agents intertwined on the surface it looks shady as hell. I dont get the need to lock him and reward him after a sweet 16 especially after underachieving during the season. Doesnt he get bonuses built into his contract that serve as “rewards”?

Just doesnt make sense as nobody was plucking gott from us

Va, if you had to assign a percentage to us NOT making the tourney what would you put it at?

My off the cuff guess is that it’s a coin flip at this point in time.

If we miss the tourney this season Gott’s seat will certainly start to flare up a bit.

    A bit?

If he whiffs this year then thats a wrap. He should be fired even with his insane contract. I think if he just goes in on the bubble then his seat should get warm.

But who are we kidding Yow isnt going to fire him under any circumstance.

We are one of the very few teams to beat Villanova over the last 3 years. And that was in March in the big dance. Probably our best win as a program since coach V. Let that sink in. His teams absolutely improve as the year goes on. If you can’t see that you are either not bright or honest.

His teams record over the last 10 games of the regular season in his tenure at State is .500. Feel free to do the research if you dont believe me. I am sure if you did the same from his time at bama it would look similar. He is a career .500 coach. From a w/l perspective its patently false that his teams improve over the course of the season.

Careful BotB…one thing I have learned without a doubt is that this site does NOT speak for WOLFPACK Nation. Not even close. As for me, I have a great deal of respect for Yow and appreciate what she has accomplished.

what the hell has she accomplished in the grand scheme of things?

Please spare me the faux Sears Cup (or whatever its called now) rankings. The rubber meets the road in the revenue sports

where this “his teams get better at the end of the year” crap came from is just bogus.

It comes from the teams showings in the ACC & NCAA tournaments

    thats lol funny right there

Fastback – that’s a great story and probably true.

And that’s my problem with Gott. I just don’t see evidence that excellence is demanded and attention to detail is demanded.

I think he’s a good coach and I think he has patience with his pets. And I don’t think we will win a championship here. I hope I am wrong.

His teams absolutely improve as the year goes on, but I think a little improvement earlier would go a long way to get us in a better position to win those championships.

I dont know how in the hell this myth keeps getting repeated but its patently false. In short he is a .500 coach in both of his conferences. In the last ten games from the past 5 years his record is basically .500. where this “his teams get better at the end of the year” crap came from is just bogus. He is a .500 coach. thats it.

But for some God knows reason Big Deb gave him a contract of a lifetime and he is all ours for 3 more years. She will absolutely never admit this mistake after she has pumped him up at every public function I have seen her at.

Gott is a .500 coach and is making 2 million per year. Let that sink in. If we are a bubble team or God forbid miss it all together any other AD would walk him out the door but not Yow. Its pretty crazy.

10-0. Confident I’m on track to be undefeated when it’s all said and done.

    W – William & Mary
L – @ECU (our fans will gather in masses on the oft used ledge)
    W – Old Dominion
    W – Wake Forest
W – Notre Dame (we finally get the elusive, HUGE win under Dave that boosts our egos and soars our hopes and dreams… delusions of grandeur.. threads created warning of SEC teams planning to poach our beloved Dave Doeren.. but then we proceed to “NC State” the rest of the season)
    L – @Clemson
    L – @Louisville
L – Boston College (bitching, whining, moaning vs Dave Doeren for life argument really gets going on the msg boards)
    L – Florida State
    W (maybe???) – @Syracuse
    L – Miami
L – @UNC (all our fans come to nearly unanimous realization Dave is in over his head [any dissenters will be filed under the “unicorn’s sh!t rainbows” moniker])

Unbelievably impressive my good troll. Refresh my memory, with that record do you predict he will be fired?

So the scuttlebutt is he is transferring along with potentially moss. ::sigh::

Scuttlebutt last year was Gallaspy was transferring. He’s still here.

    We’d miss Moss.

I dont remember Gallaspy ever being removed from the depth chart

If we’re going to spend $2 million for a buyout in order to throw $4 million more at LSU’s sloppy seconds, I’d rather just wait a year and get the 2017 SEC castoff. No need to spend that sort of dough for a caliber of candidate that will be available every year. South Carolina getting Holtz and then Spurrier transformed their program, but look how they’ve sunk back to the middle in just a few seasons. I think we missed with Doeren (the Tom Reed of the 21st century), but I think there are mid-major success stories out there who would do a good job here. I was in school for Sheridan’s glorious first season in 1986. It was wonderful to behold how most of the same players who had gone 3-8 the year before under Reed’s gloomy reign played with confidence and sound fundamentals to the tune of 8-2-1 and a bogus VaTech player injury from a nine win season (which really meant something in the era of 11 game seasons).

We cannot wait a year. keeping a coach that goes 4-7, 5-8 implodes the program. I doubt very seriously DD can operate under the stress that every game, every play he is coaching for his job. Not many coaches can operate under that environment. Add to the equation recruiting or lack thereof and its imperative Yow finds a way to can him. Say he gets a 5th year what are the ultimatums Yow has to place on him? that situation gets to be too black and white and never seems to work out. Only at NCSU can we work our way into a situation where we cannot fire a 5-7, 4-8 coach. God almighty

The only 8 happening now is possibly 8 losses. Just TCB against EZU and BC, still beat ND (everyone else has) and mayyyyybe pick up a bonus W against one of the ranked teams and he would have been fine. Do that AND beat unx and he’s sitting pretty.

Yow would have given him a huge raise and ext if he had done just that. Which in a sense is kindof sad but its neither here nor there

edit- I see rye is on the same page as me.

I see we picked up another 2 star player for the next coach to place blame on

By all objective measures, Doeren should have been fired yesterday. But who wants Yow making another hire? Why should she when she’s on her way out, too? What coach wants a job not knowing who your boss is going to be? It’s a hot mess, for sure.

Only at NCSU could we manage to get ourselves into this predicament. Its unreal actually. Any other competent school would have shown Dave the door last week and most def this week but we simply can’t. Whether its the money aspect or like you mention who is going to come here knowing they get a new boss in 2 seasons? Just another classic #ncstate**** moment.

AD Yow tries to run the AD as a business…and it is time that some performance reviews are done.

With all due respect I dont agree with this at all. Not one bit. If she treated it as a business she would have shored up the revenue generating pieces of the dept before spending millions upon millions that we didnt/dont have. If I had a dollar for every 630pm call I got from the school asking for more money…….Thank goodness my wife is a saint. I get that the entire AD needed to be scrubbed after Turner/Fowler etc but the shock to the system was what many Maryland fans warned us about.

If she truly has us in a position where our coach could go 4-8 and we couldnt afford to remove him then she needs to be walked out. Thats inexcusable and I dont give two chits how well the non-revenue sports are doing or how we are doing in the directors cup. If she has us redlining to that level we are screwed. Now I dont know if we really cannot make a move but that seems to be the word on the street making the rounds.

Doeren’s guaranteed or base is $840K or $70K per month.
His contact expires on 12/31/2019. Right, wrong or indifferent…we pay him that.
AD Yow successfully saved $1,000,000 when she cut TOB. He was due $600K for 2 years. He had a non-compete clause. He settled for a single $200K payment to take a UVA job. These are facts from reading Doeren’s contact and several news articles about TOB’S departure.
Doeren’s contact also provides a supplemental amount of $1,360,000 or $113,333 per month. That stops when he is no longer the HC.
Doeren’s package is $2.2 Million. Fedora makes about 50% MORE. Doeren’s contact has a bunch of incentives. So does Fedora. Fedora gets about $1.3 Million of his from shoes, RAM’s Club & Radio/TV. WPC does not pay Doeren a dime. Shoes/apparel & Radio/TV is paid to AD. Both are big time $$.
Which side of the line is so Stellar that you would quickly promote that individual? Kitchins (sp?) is only other name that is floating to top. Remember how Darth Vader chose his new General or field commanders? Also remember how he also relieved them when they failed? Is that what the rank and file Wolf Pack fan wants?
Read the Clean Sheet thread. Pure Economics. Add $3 per ticket for 3 years to cut Doeren.
Add $4 more to get salary to UNC levels. But that doesn’t get high paid coordinators. Kick up concessions by 15% and/or maybe $1 per ticket for staff pay increases.

I am not saying you are wrong here, but how in the hell can an ACC/NCAA coach have a non compete clause in their contract?

I just read where SI has us finishing 6th in the league this year. Considering last year, if that comes true that would be one hell of a turnaround. They had us finishing 10-8 in the ACC. All this provided the Turk gets cleared. Over/Under on 6th place???????

If not this year then when? He has to finish in the top tier or it would be a crazy disappointment.

I don’t think Les is going to win any titles here (or anywhere else at this point). I don’t think he’s ever coming to State, and think those suggesting that need their heads examined.

I do think he’s considerably better than what we have now………

If he wants to keep coaching and if NCSU has an opening then his options may truly be limited as to where he may go. He will not go to SEC, and I doubt a top tier program (tx, nd, USC etc) is going to hire a 64 year old so again if he wanted to keep going we could make it appealing to him to do so. He stays in the south, goes against the big boys (ego boost) and would basically walk on water among our fans from day 1. As it stands right now, today, where else could he go that is comparable to NCSU? I just dont see it

Sometimes, when it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it’s a duck.

This. Barring a miracle, DD should be fired at the end of the season. Whether she wants to or not, Yow should be initiating her search now.

Yow doesnt get to pick. It doesnt work that way in big boy football. AD’s dont get to choose 2x. But then again we are nc state……

My biggest concern at this point is that he won’t get a chance to build what he could here. Win this game and go into Notre Dame game undefeated and you have the kind of electric environment that he needs to get the kind of players he needs.

But, alas, he lost. Again. Remember, there’s more losers in college football than winners. Just giving him more time for the heck of it isn’t the solution.

I’ll re-iterate.. ECU fired a better coach than DD to hire new blood and beat DD who has better talent. Writing has been on the wall as far as I’m concerned.

This post is just brutally honest. Absolutely bare bones. Even the most optimistic fan cannot argue that

Once again we are given a gift on a silver platter with Art Briles. Hire him and move on down the road. We could have hired Petrino and be set but no NCSU doesnt roll like that. Hire Briles, understand this is a business and become an immediate contender. It really is that simple. If we keep up this facade that we are doing things the “right way” and claim the moral high ground then we will never get anywhere in todays NCAA.

For the love of God, fire Yow, fire DD and hire Briles. It aint rocket science

“Champions in the classroom, champions in the community and something he was standing for, champions on the field.” Sorry, as I said under TOB, this is a load. 30k plus students have to be champions in the classroom or community or else they flunk out, lose scholarships if applicable, and fail at a meaningful life. Plenty of valuable lessons to be learned via sport, whether it’s at the pee-wee level, or the D1 collegiate level, but the standard by which coaches are judged is wins against peers and rivals. That crap doesn’t sell, if you don’t win. It’s like saying “honor the process.” If the process doesn’t produce successful outcomes in the “W” column, nobody gives a hoot about process.

I’m not down on DD. I hope he’s successful. I hope we’re more competitive this year and win a few more. He hasn’t made the talent leap as fast as I’d hoped, and that is in part due to the damage of the Amato and TOB years, particularly as they impacted NC recruiting, or the lack thereof. And he hasn’t shown he can or his staff can outcoach teams with comparable, or perhaps beatable talent. I still think it’s shameful that we haven’t been able to capitalize more on the *NC scandal. I’m telling you from firsthand knowledge, that he needs to show he can win, to lure recruits, because “playing time” only sells so far to elite recruits. If you’re good, you’re not scared of competition. He has to win. It has to happen in this season or the following one, and see an upswing in recruiting, or else he won’t be around long.

As I understand it that was one of the reasons Yow told TOB that he was fired. He simply refused to use that as leverage in recruiting. It stinks as they are right back on top.

I think everyone wants DD to win, thats not really debatable and if he does the cherry on top is doing things the “right way” whatever that means. But I think the bulk of us are simply pointing out he has to do something this year. Anything positive or else we fall into the same old predictable pattern. The new coach buzz in recruiting is wearing off and we will be in the same situation when the next coach comes. And around and around we go. We have a nice schedule set up for some potential. Just show us something.

And to keep pointing at UNC as some bad evil program that we never want to become, that is just funny. This is big boy football. That is what it is. You have to get gritty. Its just the nature of the beast. If the roles were reversed and we were recruiting like fiends and winning our division you wouldnt here a peep about the extracurricular stuff.

^Hire coaches with established relationships or roots in your state or region. You need some salesman who can sell mama or daddy or Jimmy to wear the red and white.

Without altering our culture to be something truly unique we have nothing to sell except being able to start as a freshman and we all know what that means. Our team is weak. Doeren isn’t out tooting our horn about the culture TOB started and he is continuing to build. Bragging doesn’t fit in the culture. (See EweNC for an examples where egotism, self-interest, arrogance and boasting a part of the culture.

Maybe our team needs a little attitude a la Amato’s teams.

You keep bringing up UNC as the bad example but they just won their division and gave Clemson all they wanted in the championship. Meanwhile Fedora is recruiting at the top of the ACC along with Pitt and Duke. For the love of God tell me what either has on NCSU?
