7 wins wouldnt be reasonable, it would be a disaster

With our schedule 7 wins is reasonable, not good but reasonable. A section of seats at C-F collapsing would be a disaster. Surely you’ve out grown the need to exaggerate everything?

Are you aware of what ‘context” is?

All of you sound like good and faithful Wolfpack fans with 4 LTR seats each.

I wasnt dumb enough to get on that train when it started rolling. I knew it was stupid then just as it is now.

I learned my lesson with my Panther PSL’s. My first “gift” to myself right out of college. Not my most smartest moment.

Based on the schedule I don’t see how we win more than 7 games this year. 2 possibly 3 losses out of Louisville, FSU and Clemson. 2 Gimme games in Furman and Marshall. The rest are 100% toss up games. @ND @ Pitt @WFU @BC. With a home game against Clemson between them. Thats a tough road to be banking on wins.

Ordinarily I would nod my head at this post. That’s a tough row to hoe, with a nod of the head to Bill’s garden. However…

Belief is its own reality. Whether that’s belief in your coaches, your teammies, or yourself, it’s the last wall to bust to win on a regular basis.

I’m all in on the coaches and players believing in 2017.

And you can tell I’ve been into the Holy Water tonight!lol

I’m saying 9 wins. 8 would exceed most expectations. 7 is reasonable. 6 is unacceptable. Back to 9 wins — should we win 9, I believe I’ll have another taste of that Holy Water.

7 wins wouldnt be reasonable, it would be a disaster IMO. A tell tale sign that we are in the same place, if not worse than what TOB left us.
8 regular season wins should be the absolute freaking floor for this team all things considered and how much DD and co have crowed about starting over, building depth, youth etc. Especially given how 2018 looks like a down year again. 7 wins or less would be catastrophic in my opinion. Recruiting and fan support would take a mighty hit.

CBS Sports just ranked Doeren 59th, so there’s that.

CBS Sports just rated 5 coaches that Doeren beat last season as better then he is. That’s worth repeating. Doeren beat Fedora, Kelly, Clausen, Baber and Mason in 2016 yet these yahoos don’t respect Doeren because he has had trouble beating FSU, Clemson, L’ville and EweNC who they have to play every year. Three are top 15 teams and one a top 25 team.

I don’t like that we haven’t won many conference games any more than the next fan, but rating 5 coaches Doeren beat as better than he is? WTF?

by that incredible logic you are saying Scottie Montgomery and Steve Add are better coaches than DD. It doesnt work like that dude.

^ I trust your comments about the qb commit. I dont watch film on high school juniors as I dont think that one can take anything away from it. Glad he is doing well at camps. But in short this kid is at minimum 3 years away from contributing to this program. And a lot can happen between now and then. Talk on the other site is that some of the bigger boys are going to come hard at Person and Graves is going to be hard to keep if Tech keeps making a strong push/

In short DD has coached himself into the proverbial corner. Its basically all or nothing this season or I think the wheels come off from every angle. Fan support, recruiting, etc. At some point you simply run out of time. You can keep saying these things take time yada yada yada but at some point he has to win more than 3 games in conference. Throttling USC would be a tremendous start to the season and it would build crazy momentum on and off the field.

The guys seem to get bigger, stronger and faster

That is a heck of start to developing a football team. Add strong O-line and D-lines and most coaches would take that to build on. The LBs lacked depth last year. That seems to be corrected. The DB’s coming up are deeper than in the past thus we have good competition there.

We’ve lost Dayes and Frasier but still have good RBs and depth there with Hines moving to his natural position. According to our WR guru, Mr. DOG, we have size and speed at WR and good hands. Plus those guys can and will block.

Our Senior TE is a great blocker and with JSam at H-back we can compete there. Thad Moss will be missed as will McKever but we can survive their leaving without undue ill effect.

With an O-line that can hang with a D-line that is said to be one of the best in the country, good things can happen on offense. Remember we have a QB who put us in position to win 10 games in 2016.

Much of the spring was spent working on special teams — an area that in addition to kicking needs improvement and consistency.

Not loaded with super stars but IMO a well developed football team.

    ………………………………………………….
Recruiting wise more 4-star recruits are interested in State than ever before — like one dude who’s 6-6, 315 pounds.

We have a QB commitment from NJ who is rated 4-star nearly everywhere. He was MVP at a regional Elite11 QB camp and is invited to the national Elite11. In his junior video he looks great — hitting receivers in stride with 40/50 yard strikes. At 6-2, 200 as a junior he’s still growing. He looked to have good if not great speed also.

This is what I see looking out of the windshield. Looking in the rear view mirror I still see the past which must improve.

I just have one question for you guys, must we always reiterate the past when talk about what’s possible in the future?

and yet his rankings have gone down the past 3 seasons to almost where we where before

Organization, a balance between offense and defense.

Keatts just recruited a bunch of cast-off talent from high major programs and overwhelmed the low-major environs of the CAA. It’s still Guy Lewis “roll out the ball and see what happens” type crap.

There are intangibles beyond that…but really, that’s enough. He reminds me of what would happen if Sid and Gott had a baby, and he grew up to also be a basketball coach.

I dont think you could be anymore wrong with that statement

current ESPN Joe Lunardi Bracketology has Wichita State playing Dayton, then the winner gets UNC.
IF Marshal beats Archie and RoY Williams, then he is worth $5M everyday of the week.
IF Archie beats Greg Marshal and then beats UNC, then we may never have a chance at Archie?
IF either with 3 star talent beats Roy with his 4-5 star talent and the team that beat Gott by 52 and 30 then we MUST hire him.
but I doubt these parings will last, but man would that not be a good series to get to watch.

Just pay Marshall and be done with it. I dont understand why this is a hard concept. If he is going to piss off the media, the ACC and the blues then thats just an extra bonus. For the love of God just hire the man

I wonder if yow has any regrets that she let Gott finish out the season and then napalm the bridges this past week?

I wonder if there are people that still think she is the best AD we have ever had?

The sooner we get her out and the sooner we get a grownup in that position the better off we will be but after reading 13ot posts I have my doubts that we will screw even that up. I think when the dust settles on the refurbished Reynolds and we look back at Yows tenure which will include 2 basketball hires (one guy was working for Espn at the time) and a football coach that has gone winless in the ACC and cannot break the 3 win mark, then we are going to ask ourselves, WTF was Woodson thinking when he brought her on board.

We may not fire Doeren regardless next season because of how much scrilla we has to give Arch. WE ARE a basketball school, after all.

Other than that scenario, his ass better produce TANGIBLY next season. I believe he can, but it’s time to see it. Shouldn’t have shat on his stockholders after going 6-6 last year. Doesn’t build much goodwill.

When football pays the bulk of the bills you can bet your a$$ the PTB are monitoring this situation closely. another 3-5, 6-6 type season and the program is at its lowest point since the MOC years. I get all the Progress, hard worker, good guy, hands in the dirt, recruits good kids etc, talk but in year 5 its time to show the goods. And with the same kicker on the roster I am leaning towards DD being a dead man walking. If KB is your only option then you have to game plan around that and it never seems to work out in your teams favor in football.

Doeren WILL be coaching NC State as long as Yow is at NC State. The new AD may fire him in 2019, but she will not.
She promised to cover for him if he came here.

holy lollers batman you are delusional

    wolfpack92owen

^ no matter what you just said above if DD goes 3-5 next year in conference (as I suspect he will) he is going to get fired. Period.

Debbie Yow will not provide a knee jerk reaction to wins and losses this soon. she is too intelligent to follow this scenario.
she is smart enough to make an educated projection on the future of the team based on other situations/facts other than only wins and losses. Mark Gottfreid was not fired due to wins and losses only. he was fired for off the court issues and her assessment of the future outlook of the program under his direction.

If we get blown out 5 times and snag 3 lucky wins and players are leaving the team in droves (ex Caleb & Cody Martin) and there are problems behind doors, like Amato had where assistants were leaving regularly for lower level positions just to get away, then he could be let go after a 3-5 season. I dont see this happening.

But if we go 3-5 or even 2 -6 and she sees progress and a stable environment, he will still be here.
we would not want an AD that would make a decision like you are suggesting.

like her or not, she knows what she is doing, and us fans need to let her do her job the right way.

You do not want an AD that would fire a football coach after potentially going 11-29, 12-28 (your scenarios) after five years? Do what now?

Dude, I dont care how stable the environment is, how much “progress” you or Yow think there is but if Doeren goes 3-5 in conference this year he is toast. There aint no two ways about it. This is his year. Add in to the declining recruiting and he is a dead man walking with that record.

Sometimes – you get your answer gift wrapped for you. I don’t think Gott’s offcourt behavior helped him either. If you are going to preside over a sinking ship – you should at least be able to show that you do not deserve a mutiny.

Yow was fair in this. Like the DD hire – there were clear red flags bringing in Gott. Unlike DD, these flags were not a lack of experience or also indicative of very poor personal behavior. Whereas DD can be given a chance to pick up the pieces with a few bad breaks, with Gott it was clear that this was all part of a trend. A guy who could coach and could turn around a team’s fortunes, but someone incapable of sustaining them and building on them.

As I understand it (from a pretty good source) this decision went over Yows head, she wanted to keep him, but people above her had had enough. And yes the off the court stuff did play a factor in it. No way it couldnt have. She in a sense gott caught with her pants down with no plan in place when Armstrong when public with his story.

Glad you switched to Extra Strength Triple Caffeinated this morning, Mr. McCallum. I did NOT say that Lee did a great job. I said that, all in all, we COULD have done a lot worse with Sidney….give the circumstances.

Just curious but how could it have been worse than Sid?

    It’s going to be a long month+

in a weird crappy way we should be pulling against arch to lose. The more he wins the more difficult its going to be.

although I think its understood universally that morgan wants back in this state. We have to use that to our advantage

just passing along some anecdotal knowledge

He has told me this 2 weeks in a row now, says archie is open to talk

I think if archie is listening then you simply cannot let him get up from the proverbial table and walk away. The kid is a superstar in the making. IMO there is no risk with him. Pay him what he wants and forget about bball for 20 years

Archie’s wife graduated from State, her dad Steve graduated from State.

State doesn’t do subtly or taste, it is always about cheap, tasteless and blunt force trauma.

Damn that is LOL funny because its true
