    1) No

    2) No, DY being in charge for the next coaching hire is the absolute worst possible scenario, especially in an unplanned “panic” scenario like the hypothetical would be.

Be thankful DSJ is already enrolled, that takes a lot of pressure off.

Yeah I get he is the #1 recruit. Totally get it. But I dont see where an injured frosh PG, that has already stated to the staff he is one and done regardless, is going to do any miraculous things. Playing point in college probably is the toughest position and he will not have much talent around him. I just dont see how next year is not a complete disaster.

It’s the afternoon after last night’s game, and this is just the 18th post?

That pretty much tells you all you need to know about Wolfpack basketball.

After seeing that “crowd” last night I think AD Yow needs to do something quick because its not just this board who has turned completely apathetic to Gott and this program. Kindof feels like we have been teetering on the edge since the 2nd season with Gott and now the inevitable is here. He doesnt have the talent to mask the coaching deficiencies. Next year is probably going to be worse than this. Not sure how you can find any positives to say otherwise.

I have given DD a ton of crap for 3 years but man he gets my attention and respect with these past 2 hires.

We needed a gimmicky air it out offense in Raleigh and it seems we will have that with the OC and we need a creative guy coaching on the line and it appears Ledford is just that.

92owen: I hope your source is correct. That’d be the best news I’ve heard about NC State basketball in a long, long, long time. One has to wonder how long Arch is willing to wait being “on deck” before millions come and pry him away next year. Florida almost did it last year.

Rye I wouldnt really call it a source. Just a few guys who have given tons on money over the years and know various people in the WPC and on the BOT. The main guys son was a student trainer (or whatever they are called) back in the late 90’s and knows Sean Miller really well. The son speaks incredibly highly of Herb and says he is the nicest guy you could possibly know. Herbs wife apparently freaked out when their kids starting catching crap at school back at the “Fire Herb” pinnacle. I am sure you guys already knew that though.

But yeah I think if Arch has a good season this year he is gone and if not this year most def next season. It sucks the timing is this close but appears its not going to work out. My point was mainly I dont think the coaching search would be a clustereff as before if Yow or whoever targeted Archie. I know for a fact he prefers the ACC so I guess there is that.

Slam dunk hire IMO. After reading about his offense and seeing the season they had this year with a true frosh. I am sold.

Yes, what Cat is doing is phenomenal. He’s unstoppable.

But I am going to say this knowing the flak is coming, but his play is doing the TEAM no favors. That’s not on Cat. That’s squarely on the staff. He’s doing whatever he can to keep is in games, and without him we’d be lucky to have won a game. But everybody is just standing around watching the Cat show, and it’s not good for the future of this program.

I dont agree with you and I am certainly not going to give you flak as I can kindof see your point. I like that about him truthfully. Shame its wasted on this year.

As I have said a few times before he is going to hit the proverbial wall or get hurt if he keeps up the pace and style he has been playing. Nobody can sustain what he is doing with the hard checks, hard fouls etc and not pay a price for it especially in the meat of the ACC season.

It’s said that apathy is the worst thing to happen to a team in sports and to be honest, I didn’t even bother checking the score until after lunch today.

There aren’t even many authors bothering anymore. I see no positive changes possible until 2019. I certainly don’t want Yow running another coaching search. She screwed one up and hired the “hot thing” with no real record because it was easy on her second. IMO apathy is definitely here

From the limited interaction with a few of my upper tier WPC level member friend it appears that if something did happen to Gott that Arch is a shoe in to be next in line. (this was before last nights game) but everyone as a whole would be okay with Archie as a replacement and he is “on deck” as they say. He apparently wants to coach here per one of the guys. I honestly didnt ask about what he thought about Yow. So I guess the feeling is if something did happen to Gott the interview process would be pretty clean, short and open and shut.

Now I think we are a long way from Gott leaving but if he did we shouldnt have a repeat from the previous 2 searches. We have some homegrown talent that apparently wants to coach here. So unless Yow goes completely rogue (and these guys were saying no way in hell she would) Arch would get the gig.

Just a little tidbit from a party as was at on Sat night. For what its worth all of these guys really really like Doeren for whatever reason. That was surprising to me.

Guys talking about a team. I really dont understand how after this many years now with Mark we have NO bench. None. I mean I watch high school basketball that play with more drive then us. Could someone please help me unserstand. Thanks

I will await the incoming here but Gott is not a good program manager as evidenced in Alabama and now Raleigh. Proof is in the pudding as they say.

I truly wonder if Yow will can him next season if he lays another turd? Because I dont see any way in hades that we are going to be better next year giving our annual off season purge.

    Coachspeak is coachspeak.

Probability distribution being what it is, we will surely win 4-5 games minimum even if rarely favored. And no, it won’t represent a turnaround when we start getting those wins, it will just be the steady, inevitable march of math.

Before last night I would have agreed with you. However I am not seeing 4-5 wins this season. Our offense is just non-existent. No points from ANya? What the hell gives? Something is really off with this team. Not sure I can say if its the chemistry just yet but something is woefully off here.

Also another game where Cat just does it all. He was getting hammered again all game and picking himself up off the floor. Without some relief or help there is no way he is going to be able to play at that level in the meat of the ACC schedule.

Really, Shaka waited, Marshall is waiting. In the last 5 years, that has been the trend if you are a top tier mid major, your coach stays until he gets the one he wants.

What does Archie have to do with Shaka and Marshall? Cherry picking random coaches to prove your point doesnt work when there are a vast number of mid majors that move up every year.

Again, her rep really doesn’t matter at this point. Even if you LOVED her, she won’t be here long-term. So…you’d be signing up with NO F-ING CLUE who your boss is going to be. I mean, every coach knows it’s POSSIBLE his AD will change, but dead certain?

She can’t possibly make the next hire, for many reasons. As others have also noted, she’s probably likely not in a great position to objectively judge him, either. NOT a good situation at the top at all.

You guys are right that neither Miller will EVER work for Yow, period. But I think it runs deeper than that. In the last 6 months, I’ve heard from multiple independent sources that it just doesn’t look like the Archie thing will happen, ever.

Not sure if you are an insider or not but do you think its possible that the PTB could send Yow to an early retirement if both Gott and DD fizzle next year?

Why does everyone think Archie is an upgrade? Dayton has traditionally been a good program before Archie got there. He didn’t build it, just maintaining it. It’s not a knock on Archie, just the truth. He played for us, and I appreciate that but that doesn’t mean he is a good fit as our coach. Plus everyone seems to think coaches want to go to a power 5 conference but why? If I am the top dog in my mid-major conference every year, win a conference title, go to the dance etc why would I want to go to a middle of the road program?

Archie could make way more money coaching here, his wife is from here, he understands the ACC is the premiere league. He sees the opportunity to build something bigger than anything he can imagine in Dayton.

In regards to why people think he is the real deal I have to ask you if you have watched any of his teams? I think after 5 years is more than enough data and a snapshot of what is teams are and how they play. Smart team fundamentally sound ball is his trademark. They are gritty and tough defensively. Not sure what the “building/maintaining” comment is about. All I know is he can coach. Flat out coach. Its in his pedigree.

I would trade Archie for Gott every day of the week and twice on Sunday. At this point I would think the bulk of our alumni would say the exact same.

Sean is in Archie’s ear. He’s the big bro. Don’t know what Sean thinks of DY, honestly don’t.

So our best player next year is going to be a freshan PG? Great. And that is sarcasm if you didn’t already detect it.

Whether its fair or not Yow doesnt have a good reputation as someone who is easy to work for. Thats just the way it is. People can point to Williams, Fridge and TOB as examples.

I’m just worried we won’t even make the NIT at this point. It’s shaping up to be a real dumpster fire, or at least that’s the feeling I gets in my bones. Even with the pass I give that I truly feel is deserved…that is gonna suck for all parties involved.

Totally understand the need to vent frustrations about it. I do it as well. Let’s just try to keep it in perspective and nuance as well. Think about where we are longterm, and what chain of events needs to happen in all scenarios.

Honest question to you. I know I am biased because I dont care for Gott but where you do honestly think we are in regards to long term as you posted above? Is the model we have now sustainable for future growth and wins?

I dont think so. There is no rhyme or reason to recruiting, his post players appear to be regressing before our eyes, the offense(if you call it that) is choppy and has been for 3 years now, and there is seemingly no dedication to basic fundamentals.

I would say that I think football is in a better shape now (not by much) because we havent gone off the proverbial cliff yet. I think this bball season and his past history of losing players in the off season has lite the fuse on this powder keg. We simply our not set up for longterm teams IMO.

Having Barber gives us a chance to win many games we might not be expected to win. One of two of those just might get us into the Dance.

I don’t have any problems with the way the team is being run right now. The only thing I’d like to see is an occasional appearance by some of the better “bench players”, which would rest the starters a little and fire up the crowd.

My only gripe/concern about Barber especially after a game like last night is that he is getting hacked, knocked, bumped and whatever else you want to call it. We are 2 games in and I cannot imagine he can keep up the pace. Someone has to give him some help and relief. Twice late in the second half he got absolutely creamed going to the bucket, one was called the other not. Not too mention all of the hand slaps that Louisville was doing last night.

I am afraid now the blueprint to how to beat us in in place. Limit Cat with extraordinary pressure and foul ABU and Anya regularly and make them beat you in the beat and on the line. Pretty simple actually.

    – I’m trying to accept that Archie will never be the head man at NC State.

That makes me queasy thinking about it as he is one of us and the kid can obviously coach.

Apart from sucking, we just fine.

MG has earned a mulligan season. He is responsible for the roster, yes. But he’s responsible for the goodwill he’s built since he’s been here, too.

I am not sure if mulligan is the right word here. Sure there is no heat on him this season but if the pattern persists next year then I think something should be done. His coaching and roster management is godawful.

If last nights crowd was any indication then apathy has taken hold in Raleigh. Something Yow has talked about ad nauseam.

If I was a betting man I would wager the twins transfer, we most likely lose Cat and either Abu or Anya. Something is just off with this team. No chemistry and the all have the look of frustration especially the twins.

I think it was okay to go after Smart first. Worked out fine for Marshall too. Wasn’t Lon Krueger a name floated in the last search or two. Seems most guys we considered and either missed on or passed over are tearing it up now relative to what Gott has done. And he hasn’t exactly face planted. I hope we get a decent sense of his ceiling here within the next 2 years.

You dont have an idea of what his ceiling is now after 4+ years?

AliasTroll, according to Rivals.com, NC State had the #7 recruiting class in the country in 2003. Would you like to know our record for the following four seasons? 8-5 (2003), 5-6 (2004), 7-5 (2005), 3-9 (2006). From 2002 to 2015 Georgia’s LOWEST recruiting class was ranked 15th in the country, they won 2 conference titles (2002, 2005). The University of Miami had two recruiting classes ranked outside the top-20 (six were ranked in the top-10) during the same 14-year period, they won more than nine games twice during that period. I understand that having good players is essential, but recruiting service approval isn’t gospel. Would you like me to go chapter and verse on highly-ranked NC State players who didn’t live up to their rankings?

Cherry picking stats and teams doesnt really tell the whole story.

Debbie put her foot in her mouth (again….shocker) in regards to recruiting the “alabama” talent. Now that DD is recruiting basically where TOB is that one metric she used as well as the declining season tickets is going to bite her in the ass. I feel pretty confident in saying if a change is going to be made Debbie will have no input in it.

    I am a moron, thanks

and that tweet is actually really depressing. Just saw where UNC got a 4 star guy to start ’17 off with and we are in the running for a 2 star guy. Damn that is like the early 90’s now.
