Speaking of that…..have all the torches from the “GOTT’s GOTT to GO” crowd finally been extinguished. This should calm that down.

Regardless of which side of the issue you may be (or may NOT be) on, the bottom line. Debbie Yow has declared this a Rebuilding Season due to Trevor’s untimely and unexpected departure and Terry’s equally unplanned injury.

We are part of an elite 2.5% of all DI schools that have gone to the NCAA 4 years in a row and also made the Sweet 16. I got an email from her with some unsolicited comments. She seemed like she just needed to vent a little.

1-5 is hardly a ringing endorsement for the coach but it appears sides have been drawn and after every win we will see posts calling people out just as after every loss we see complaints about Gott. I seem to remember this from the last two failed coaches.

Of course Tow is calling this year a gimme. She is not going to get rid of Gott. She made a horrid decision giving him an extension so she is hardly going to put him on the hot seat. Those two are tied at the hip and he is here as long as she is here (see 2019). She is certainly better than Jed but that is not a high bar to hurdle.

The calling out by both sides after a win or loss does kindof show where we are as a program now. Damn that happens fast.

Also how convenient that Yow is calling this a rebuilding year. I wonder how she gets to decide that.

The season may be (ie, IS) still shot, but it’s encouraging to see the young men show such character and step up on the road. Avoiding absolute disaster would still be very helpful for the program going forward. We CAN still do that.

Cody was great. Abu broke their spirit numerous times. Cat was cold-blooded, as is his nature.

GFK nailing that three was BEAUTIFUL. Cat sought him out for it. Purposeful statement. “Yeah, we heard you. Now STFU.”

I will give credit where credit is due, these guys are still fighting hard. It would have been easy for them to mail it in on the road. Thats the absolute last thing this program needs is for the kids to give up and roll over. Duke game should be fun (if I get to watch it….stupid Directtv)

Ok, so I went back and read it.

Tell me exactly, old wise one, how I got destroyed?

Maybe your problem isn’t with history after all, maybe it’s that you just like to make sh*t up?

Sweet Christ, if I have to explain it to you like a simpleton then whats the use. You went on a rant complaining about something rewriting history about Kirk being a “project”. Alas, no article I could find (feel free to prove me wrong) says anything about him being a project but contributing immediately, then Rick finds the very thread on here about when he commits. In it the bulk of the posters are high fiving saying he will get minutes, huge get, big contribution, etc (well you get the point). But yet you feign ignorance about what we are talking about here. In closing, nobody thought he would be this 4 year project that you are trying to make him out to be.

Carry on with your “whoa, what, who did what now?” ignorance

I now rarely address Rick’s posts, let alone read them.

I probably wouldnt either if I got destroyed in the manner you did.

More rewriting history to bash State.

Kirk was and is “a project”. That was stated before he was signed, after he signed, and after he enrolled.

The dumb statement factor on this site has been trending up quite a bit of late.

I wonder if you will address Ricks post about this?

Perhaps you are right, (although a quick google search about him committing has nothing in reference to him being a project) he however would probably start at a lower tiered school and that IMO will be the motivating factor for him to leave.

If he is not getting minutes now during this debacle when exactly will he get time?

Here’s a better way to look at it: If he can’t get time on this team, exactly what Power-5 team could he go to and get more playing time?

He wouldnt go to a p-5 school IMO. Something like Marshall, ECU or VCU.

Who wants to bet Shaun Kirk transfers after this year. Here we are 7 deep and losing every ACC game so far. And still Gott refuses to play him, even a little. Repeating pattern.

Why in holy hell would he stay? If he is not getting minutes now during this debacle when exactly will he get time?

When he does I will not blame him one bit.

not to defend Herbert but he was finishing high in the ACC (2nd 3rd) regardless of getting his ass handed to him by the blues. I think I would take finishing high in the ACC now vs the occasional win.

Herb finished second once, and third once. In ten years. His average finish was 5.3. Gott’s is about the same, and Duke and Carolina are arguably better now than they were during the Herb years.

Also who gives a crap about second and third place (at best) regular season conference finishes?

I care about winning an NCAA championship, winning an ACC championship and beating Carolina and Duke. In that order.

Yes, Herb finished second once and tied for third once… both times in a 9 team ACC, once with Doherty coaching UNC and the other time with Roy cleaning up Doherty’s mess. Those finishes are not particularly impressive in retrospect.

Gott is coaching in a different and more difficult ACC than Herb was in those two seasons.

Yeah I get all of that, but I was just making the point that by finishing high in the ACC, whether you are beating the blues or not, you have a better chance of winning the ACC tourney and getting a higher seed to go further in the NCAA. Having to play those extra games in the ACC tourney has proved deadly in years past. Teams, especially those with short benches, are not equipped to play so many times in a short time frame. Kindof stupid actually but that is the new ACC.

2nd or 3rd place puts us in a good position for the ACC tourney and a higher seed in the NCAA. I just want to win an ACC title and then go from there. Not having to play the extra game in the ACC tourney so far has proven vital in the tourney.

Can’t see where Coach Gottfried and staff is doing any better than Sendek & Company….and this in no way is intended to show any support for Herb Sendek. Just sayin!

I understand the frustration w/Gott, but this is straight ridiculous.

100% NCAA tournament appearance > 50% tournament appearance, two S16 > 1 S16. I’m bored and don’t feel looking up the all time stats against Carolina and Duke, but Gott has won 4 in four years and I’m pretty sure Sendek sucked a fatty against anyone not named Matt Doherty.

Doesn’t stress fundamentals, can’t coach defense, poor roster management, whatever, but Gott is clearly better than Sendek at this point.

I am afraid Gott is on the down slide. Hopefully, he can right the ship next year, but there seem to be so many flaws in his program from recruiting to coaching, or lack thereof, to in game decisions, and playing only 7-8 guys. Does anyone see us as a contender in the ACC with Gott at the helm.

People keep saying this but how exactly? Whats the best case scenario here? I dont see it. At best, at absolute best I see us back in the middle of the acc and a bubble team.

We are losing Cat and probably 2 others just by the nature of the beast. We are gaining Smith and a UNCC transfer and thats it. I just dont see next year as some high water team and with recruiting going the way it is 2017 looks embarrassingly bad.

Just saw where UNC got the #1 soph recruit from NC. How in the hell is this still happening with sanctions on the horizon and Roy eyeballing retirement. Something doesnt add up here. Are we really in a position to make a strong move when roy boy, K, Pitino, etc leave for the golden road? Its like our program is imploding in slow motion and there is nothing we can do to stop it.

Oh you think UNC is going have something happen to them?
    How quaint.

What can I say, I am an eternal optimist.

This is the first UNC/State game I have missed by choice in probably 8 years. Yet, I feel strangely fine. I called my dad who is a huge State fan/donor despite not going to the school and asked him if he watched it. He said he spent the afternoon in the yard and forgot all about it. Times are a’changing my friends and its not for the better.

Glad our kids made UNC work in the first.

I don’t know what the “92” signifies, but it’s probably not your graduation year. Anyone that seriously asks that question hasn’t watched college basketball for very many years.

    Ditto

I lived in Owen dorm in 1992. (yay prison showers). Meet some of my best friends between there and Tucker. Good times.

So you’ve just recently become a college basketball fan? Serious question, not trying to be snarky.

So I will ask again for the 3rd time, could you list a few examples of frosh pg’s that have come in and carried a team? It seems like you guys are just evading the question here. Its not hard. If I am wrong I will admit it but please give me a little something to work with here instead of your condescension.

Feel free to list examples of frosh pg’s carrying teams. If you have some I would love to investigate to compare. In my experience it seems like it takes a couple of seasons for a new pg to get their sea legs. Cat is a good example.

This forum is the only place I hear anyone ever talking about Gott getting fired. No State fan I know, including several WPC donors, has any inclination toward making a HC change in the program. It’s frustrating to come here and see this type of talk gain traction especially when paired with hoping and dreaming for the next flavor of the month HC candidate. Thankfully there are voices of reason in the ‘hood.

Yall need to realize Gott is the best bball coach we’ve had since V – who was forced to resign in 1990. Short memories forget all about the dungeon of the 90s and 00s, which unfortunately contaminated State’s fan base with extreme pessimism and a loser mentality. Gott is the first one to elevate this program from the garbage heap we wallowed in for 20 years (think about that for a minute). His effort should be rewarded with patience and support, even in difficult seasons like this one.

I know plenty of people that are not completely blown away with Gott. They arent really calling for his head right now just more in the holding pattern. If this season keeps going like it is I think you will see the fan base start to splinter and the conversation will come up more. A lot of us are seeing a downward progression similar to his run at bama. The thing that kindof surprises me is nobody is really mentioning his personal life. He is obviously going through some rough times and who knows if its not seeping into the program. Not unreasonable to discuss all things considered.

It’s so simple! When you say it like that, I have to wonder why other schools haven’t thought of it.

You should look at the winners of the NCAA and ACC tournaments, over the last say…20 years, and tell me how often those coaches that win games without overwhelming talent come along.

FSU, ND, Miami and UVA all have won it recently without overwhelming talent. next question

How bout the previous 15 years? How bout the NCAA tournament?

    but, but, but………….

college basketball is a different game then it was 15 years ago. You dont need to have an all american at every position to win. I just gave you the past 4 winners of the ACC and for a educational challenge look up and see how many Mickey ds were on those teams.

Or…….we could hire a coach that can win games without an entire roster full of Mickeys AA.

Freshman PGs do just fine in the ACC.

If he wasn’t enrolled, we’d be getting negative recruited all over the place. At least we KNOW we will have a chance next season, with Smith, Dorn, and Henderson in the backcourt. Better than being a dead team walking.

I have no idea as to the thought process behind the scenes of the powers-that-be above the AD level. It’s NC State, so I wouldn’t get my hopes up for anything proactive.

State needs to get to the point where they stockpile McDonald’s all americans left and right and re-load the chamber every year no matter who leaves. I think Gotts building towards that and deserves some slack for this year because we’re just not that kind of program yet.

Or…….we could hire a coach that can win games without an entire roster full of Mickeys AA.

There is simply no evidence that Gott is “building” anything remotely close to what you are suggesting.

We’ve gotten beat by two second year coaches (Buzz, Manning). We’ve gotten beat by freshmen and transfer heavy teams (Lville, FSU). It’s year to year in MBB. Just the way it is nowadays. It is all on Gott.

I know you are talking about ACC here but if you expand on that, we got beat by a team with a new coach and **coughcough** a team of Herb recruits. Thats embarrassing.
