Let’s not forget that Johnny Frasier, who was the crown jewel in our recruiting class last year red-shirted, so he should be in good position to hit the ground running (see what I did there) this year.

Once again, we should be loaded at running back (thanks to good recruiting), which is a great benefit to a first time signal caller.

I just wish that DD had managed to get McClendon some more snaps during the season.

That was bizarre in retrospect how little we actually saw of JM. In fact there was little buzz or nuggets that came out about him. I hope that is not too telling.

In today’s paper I read the assessment of the 2016 commits to State, Duke and UNC. What struck me most was that State didn’t have any 4 or 5-stars, and Duke had more 4-stars than UNC.

It’s doubtful that Wolfpack football will improve much if any next season. It takes massive talent influx to get to the level most of us would like to see.
I have no doubts that these kids are hard workers and committed to bringing glory to NCSU, but this isn’t basketball, where maybe only one or two really good players are all you need to get to the next level or beyond.

Just a couple of points. Number of stars is pretty subjective as some have noted, although landing a bunch of 4s and a few 5s is a pretty good indicator of future success. It also depends on the rating service. The article you read has us with no four stars. Rivals has us getting 2 – TE Thaddeus Moss and WR Kelvin Harmon. Scout has us getting one, DT Shug Frasier.

Regarding next year, it’s not often recruits have much of an impact in their first year, so I don’t think it will make much difference to next year’s results, but rather 2 or three years down the road. We did pick up a couple of guys who could help immediately. For the rest, only time will tell.

I certainly think we can improve offensively if we go to an all out no huddle air raid style offense. I think it could catch some higher ranked teams off guard if we do it to perfection (as I dont think anyone else in teh ACC is running that version yet). I think if we get to 7 wins with a couple of huge upsets that could be the foundation and blue print to show recruits. However, sadly that should be something done in years 1 or 2 not year 4.

Not related, but would love to see some blogs every now and then on our women’s basketball team, who are doing quite well, especially after spanking unc by 29, and our wrestling team, who is undefeated and 20-0 in dual matches so far, and ranked 3rd nationally.

Yeah I know I am going to come across as an inconsiderate a hole here. But nobody in general cares about collegiate wrestling and most certainly not womens bball. Its just a fact, most of our alums dont give a rats rear end. That certainly could change if we ever won something in bball or football but now I think most of the focus is in the revenue sports. Tough to beat your chest on these overlooked sports when the big boys are in a funk. Right or wrong thats just how it is

Like I said, not the coach, clearly on the the team, and when they decide to show up for the whole game, we win. The coach had every right to call them out last game, and see what happened.

Perhaps Gottfried has learned. If Abu comes back next year, we should be a solid team – even without an additional big man. Will fit be like his first 4 years where injuries were minimal and he was able to replace the transfers – so he can stick with Plan A? If he does catch those good breaks, will we better than a 7 seed?

I am slowly coming around to this now. From a 30,000ft view it looks like next year will be a dumpster fire but if you start looking at Abu slowly coming on in the past 4 or so games he could be a building block instead of a role player. He still has a ways to go and needs to stay focused. But there is the elephant in the room as to whether he is even going to stay especially if he continues to progress as he did in mid-late Jan.

Cat is just a sick player right now. Borderline unstoppable. I just continue to worry about him logging 40 minutes a game. That is going to catch up with him eventually.

Dayton is 17-3, and just beat St. Louis by 40

We are going to miss him by a year. If someone doesnt snatch him up after this season we have a chance.

The 15th year of a coach at one school vs the 5th. Yes, huge difference, especially if you’re using the high spike pinnacle of that 15th year as the differentiation between the success of the two coaches, as you did.

    HUGE.

You have weird ways to defend Gott.

It HAD improved. Obviously, with the last 3 halves of basketball, it has backslid tremendously.

Thus, Abu’s offensive outburst is effectively meaningless.

Kindof a catch 22 actually. While its nice to see, I think it is giving him confidence and is clearly frustrating him that nobody else outside of Cat is coming to play. I just dont see him sticking around for the crap show next year.

I think “Abu going pro” was considered more realistic going into the season. He’s not progressed with his shot at all, in fact he’s regressed if anything. Still flashes incredible strength and athleticism and he may still decide to gamble on “projectibility” rather than stick around and be judged a fatally flawed, finished article…

I think once your mind is made up in that scenario there is no turning back. See Leslie,CJ

Honestly, if I’m an NBA exec, Abu and/or KH is a stretch.

Its not what a NBA exec thinks it is what the player thinks. I fully believe that Abu is gone baby gone after this year

It is come draft day. That was my point.
It was not my intent to make comment on players’ self-delusions.

    gotcha

I was just saying I believe Abu thinks he is good enough for a professional career on some level.

    Year 5 and….

    Nitpick Alert:

The length of time at a school has little impact on whether or not a coach/team is going to have a bad year. For instance, in 2010 UNC went 5-11 in conference.

That really doesnt compare here because the 2009 team was the one he built all along and you know they won the title that year and had a mass exodus. Then went to an elite 8(?) going off memory here, the next year. So its not really apples to apples in our scenario. Plus Roys track record historically is quite good. Gotts, well……….

    Fire Coach K.

He should’ve been prepared for the Jefferson injury. The lack of depth is his fault. The roster is his doing. Inexcusable.

Didnt K win it all last year? Oh yeah he did.

Honestly I dont care about non-revenue sports. I dont want Yow anywhere near another Basketball or Football hire. Sorry but its the way I feel. Her reputation, right or wrong, is not good.

^I dont want him fired because I dont want Yow anywhere near another coaching search in either sport.

However at this point we know exactly what Gott is. To a tee. It seems that a bulk of the fanbase is content with that (four straight NCAA, 2 16’s yada yada yada) and a bulk want more.(better record OOC and in ACC and better roster management). I see both points.

However if as the scuttlebutt is true and Archie truly wants to come here then IMO a plan must be put in place for that to happen. Programs should be ran like a business and not buddy buddy like Yow and Gott are. We gave him a job when nobody else would, we paid him millions and in return he righted our ship to a degree. But in business sometimes you must part ways, its just the way it is sometimes.

And that raise and extension preseason was just mind numbing retarded.

Has a Gott recruit ever stayed all 4 years and graduated? I honestly cannot remember and too hungover to look it up.

This is Gott’s 5th season, so this could only have happened with his first class: TDT, Harris, Raymond, Battle. Battle is the only one who stayed all 4 years and completed his eligibility. But this class isn’t really a great example, since Gott didn’t have even a full year to recruit this class, and I think Lowe signed Raymond and Harris.

However, his second class (and the first one that was fully his IMO) was Lewis, Purvis, Warren, and Chase Cannon, and it looks the same with respect to this question — only Cannon will stay 4 years and complete his eligibility.

His third class was Anya, Barber, Freeman, Washington, Chris Brickhouse, and Patrick Wallace. Washington transferred and everyone expects Barber to go pro after this year. Not sure if Wallace is still on the roster, but the other 3 (Anya, Freeman, and Brickhouse) are on pace to complete 4 years of eligibility next season.

    Chase Cannon wasnt a recruit
