My hatred of UNX is, well inbred in me. My grandmother, God rest her sole, was a die hard college basketball fan. She would site and watch any basketball game that was on TV. Meals would be late, she would stay up late, we would be neglected if a good game was on. I remember the first time we were watching a basketball game and Dean smith went into the four corners. She was mad, down east farm women type of mad, in her opinion he ruined the game with that crap (about the worst words coming out of her mouth).
Fast forward many many years of me sitting with her watching games. It was time for me to choose what college I wanted to go to. We had finished a long day in the tobacco field and dinner the summer between my junior and senior year of high school. She had that we need to talk look, my cousin looked at me and left. You should also understand, we were the two ‘chosen’ grandchildren, you know the ones, we get whatever we want from grandma. She looks at me and tells me that I need to think long and hard before I chose a college. I need to find one that will give me an education that will serve me well the rest of the life, do not chose it based on which team I liked. However, if I go to UNX that I should never bring my worthless A$$ back into her house ever again.
You have to understand this was a lady who went to church every Sunday and until that day I had never heard a harsh word from. Well, from that conversation I learned that UNX was not the school I should like.
On a side note, we did have to buy her a new TV when Dean decided to run the four corners for the entire half of the ACC tournament game, she threw something at it and broke the picture tube. So my dislike for UNX is bred into me.
wirogersParticipantI might not have the hatred towards UNX as McCallum, but having spent many a summer day riding around the great State of NC with him eating at every que dive we could find I understand his hatred more and more. So to answer the poll, over my dead body will I ever pull for UNX, NEVER!!!!!
My wife was pregnant, I asked the doctor if the child was a boy would they put one of those gawd awful baby blue hats on his head. The doctor told me that was standard operating procedure. I informed him my standard operating procedure would be to pay him 1 cent a month for the rest of my life but never anymore than that if he insulted my son that way. My grandmother made us a very nice Corvette Red hat. Baby Blue is not in my color wheel now or EVER.
Hatred of UNX goes all the way to pro teams, the one with the most UNX (fake) graduates is the one I pull against.

wirogersParticipantGood reason to own laying hens the last few years. I make money on all their dung!
wirogersParticipantCowdog, you question McCallum. You have to remember that in college he lived on whatever the wino was drinking and the lunch special at the bowling alley and really wanted to be Summer Erb’s girlfriend.
Last day of summer here in PA, winter is only a week away.
wirogersParticipantYou guys just need to learn how to read McCallum. He is not a troll, he is a State Grad. He is just an over read frat boy from the sand hills who does not know the difference between ‘Dirt’ and ‘Soil’. Just learn to love him and laugh, he can be very entertaining if you take it correctly.
From PA State looks great to me, I just have learned to hate Penn State as much as UNX.
wirogersParticipantGot to get to this game someday, is on the bucket list. I have Army and 6.5 points, so I want Navy to win by 4. I win both ways then.
wirogersParticipantNot to blow up the UNC-CHeaters thought that they got hosed on this one but the call was a good one. The play design was flawed so the error goes to the coaches.
I might be wrong, please correct me if I am, but I always thought you had to have at least 4 players on each side of the kicker (not including the kicker). As you can see in Wufpaker’s screen shot, there are only three players above or to the right of the kicker. This is why the flag was thrown.
They tried to get cute with this play and had two kickers lined up so that Clemson supposedly would not know which way it was going. However, when the person on the right or upside of the picture took the kick it put them in a flawed or offside formation.
Just my thoughts.
wirogersParticipantThis lists 4 State grads as crew chiefs, that would be 10% of the sprint cup are related to State. I wonder how many in the Infinity and Camping World Truck Series are State Grads? That does not include all the other engineers on these teams.
03/26/2015 at 7:04 PM in reply to: Pennsylvania Columnist David Jones: “Louisville-NC State could pass for an NIT semifinal” #82784wirogersParticipantOK, I have lived just east of Harrisburg in Lancaster County for 18 years (yes the Amish buggy goes by the house and no, the Amish Mafia does not exist). I have never heard or read anything by this gentleman. This area is not really a large Nova area. You have to understand, once you get 10 miles or less out of Philadelphia, with a small pocket around Pittsburgh, the rest of the Commonwealth’s toothless wonders only think there is one college in the area (Penn – Keep your boys out of the showers – State).
I thought I have lived in some bad places (I grew up close to College Park) and none of them are as bad as Pennsylvania.
PS: Mcallum is a toad liker
wirogersParticipantI would really like to vote for both teams to loose and the coliseum to fall in.
wirogersParticipantIs it ironic or hypocrisy that Skip is there, he was one of the main media that would not let things go with SMU and continued to investigate it until the NCAA finally had to do something. I believe he is following the almighty money (or at least those that pay his current paycheck) and will smugly tell us how Great and Wonderful UNC is and how they are unjustly being investigated.
wirogersParticipantAs I was parking at Staples this morning I had one of those ‘Things that make you go hum’ moments.
With the recently reviled 20-Year ‘Academic Only’ scandal at UNC – CH(eaters), is there a connection as to why in the 1980’s when they started painting handicap places, they painted them using the Carolina Blue color?
Again, one of those things that make you go hum!!. Did someone know something back then? LOL
I hate the Heels, GO PACK!!!
wirogersParticipantI do not know how you can say there is ‘Lack of Institutional Control’ in this situation, it looks to me like the Institution was in complete control of everything. My Penn State Friends ‘Hate’ UNX I think more than I do after reading this and knowing that nothing will happen to them.
wirogersParticipantDidn’t Danny Peebles run track, I thought Naz Worthen was also on the track team.?
wirogersParticipantI do not know about the drives out west. But, I do not know if there are as terrifying as coming down Black Mountain on the old US 70 to Old Fort (for you young guns Interstate 40 did not go all the way to Asheville). A nice two lane road in January with a ice/snow storm. The trip was normal except I was only 16 driving a 1972/1973 Chevy Vega with my Mom in the passenger seat. Her death grip on anything she could get a hold of was bugging me, then I see it in my rear view mirror, a large semi-truck flashing his headlights gaining on me quickly. Deciding that scaring Mom anymore was not going to be good, I just continued to pick up speed trying to get to the bottom before the truck ran me over. Glad the ice got to more rain as we came down. Mom was not happy with the high speed, yelling at me to slow down more than once or twice or the hold way down. Needless to say, Mom did not say much to me the rest of the trip to Raleigh and the only reason she did not drive the rest of the trip was she could not drive a stick shift.
wirogersParticipantI am disappointed, go ahead and throw in marijuana and prostitution. Just thing how much research money the College of Agriculture could make doing all types of research on growing, processing, and improving that. we could have a new variety Wolpack 420
wirogersParticipantRoo,
That story is similar to the one I had this year at the State UNC game. I took my 24 year old niece who is a Volleyball player at another D1 school, she is a die hard State Fan. We ended up with tickets in the UNC section of CF. There where mostly families with young kids, many young kids. There was one loud UNC fan that had a very fowl mouth. After a quarter and a half of this during a break my niece apologized to me stood up turned around, looked at the guy and told him that there where young kids around who did not need to hear his fowl mouth and that it was time for him to stop showing his lack of intelligence. He started to say something to her, she just looked at him again and told him that since his parents had not raised him properly she would gladly go up there and wash his mouth out and spank him. His buddies gave him a hard time that a State girl had just abused him and he could say nothing. He was quiet the rest of the game. When he left at halftime, many of the UNC fans thanked my niece for shutting him up.
I was afraid a fight was going to break out, when she sat down I looked at her and asked her what her plan was if he threw a punch. Her comment, Uncle Bill, I was going to use physics, he was above me, I was just going to grab him and let his momentum carry him down the seats. I love my niece!!
wirogersParticipantHey, the ironic thing if you look at the ‘Dance Card’ is that they had to use software developed by the SAS Institute. The same SAS institute that would not be there if it was not for the Statistics Department at NC State. Nice to know my University helped someone predict with a high percentage the teams that would make the Dance.
