WeAreCuredParticipant
Let’s not let the frustration cloud our judgment to the point of publicly stating that Maryland was/is/could be right about anything. It’s unbecoming.
WeAreCuredParticipantI totally agree that the refs sucked some big nutz tonight. Way too many ticky-tack fouls called on us, especially off the ball.
But I am sorry to say, the call on Warren was the correct call. Watch the play again if you have the means. The Syracuse guy clearly tries to reach around Warren and swipes at the ball THEN Warren takes two full steps before he jumps. Sure, Cooney most likely was trying to foul, but he did make an attempt at the ball.
No continuation and no intentional foul.
I will say that if you watch the ref calling the foul, it almost looks as if he waited to see if the ball would go in before determining it would be a shooting or on the floor foul.
This game though was lost on mental errors at the end. Just couldn’t handle the pressure.
I second this rational explanation of the night’s festivities. In a vacuum, the few ticky tack off ball whistles that resulted in 1 and 1s could be cited as one of many reasons for the L, such as missed free throws and ill-timed turnovers.
WeAreCuredParticipantFolks really need to cut this team some slack. If rolling out four freshman, a two transfers don’t mean squat then everyone in the league would be 6-6. It’s so easy to just pick up with anyone at seasons beginning because the HC and players should all be as great as they will ever be by now. It’s that easy, and everyone is doing it so why can’t we.
I don’t see anyone railing on the players. I’m thrilled with the way they’ve progressed throughout the year, and I think they have accomplished a good deal. I’m sure the majority feel the same way. They played a great game, and any critique is born out of frustration. Year after year, State is involved in some amazing games; they just very rarely win them. It would be so awesome to be the team that wins those amazing games at least half of the time. I think that if State keeps putting good kids on the floor that improve throughout the season year after year, we will get to be one of those programs that wins the amazing game as much as they lose.
WeAreCuredParticipantYou can cry your hearts out on the call….but it was the right one.
RIGHT as freakin rain.
Agree.
Wac did you watch the game? We were forcing the ball to the middle is that zone all game and NO calls.
And how do we go from two calls to 15 from one half to the other?
We got screwed and it was so obvious it should be called out. But the media will fawn all over su and how they win the closer games.
Which is what the acc wants. They have to prop up k’s butt boy
I don’t know what to say other than when we were going inside, we scored and they didn’t foul. I need to watch a replay, but in the final 6 or 7 minutes, we just passed it along the arc and never went inside. Like I said, there were definitely some off ball ticky tack fouls called on us that logically, one would assume, should have been called on the other end; however, those were only 3, maybe 4 whistles, and the other fouls called were definitely fouls. Even so, that hurts, and in a vacuum could be cited as one of many possible reasons for the L, such as missed free throws and ill-timed turnovers.
WeAreCuredParticipantI know I may make a lot of people mad, but without having the ability to replay, it looked to me like the foul on TJ occurred when he had the ball below his waist, getting ready to begin his two steps into launch, and since there is no continuation in the NCAA like in the NBA, and it was not a hard foul and was a play at the ball, I think it was correctly called.
I’m also going to go out on a limb and say that the lack of fouls on Syracuse is somewhat understandable. They were playing a tight zone, and State was not penetrating or getting it to anyone down low. When there were clear fouls on either team, they were called. State had more clear fouls than Syracuse. No question. However, there were two or three off ball ticky tack fouls called on Lewis and Washington that would seem to have been matched, given the tight zone, by Syracuse on the other end, but there was never a call. They were hitting their 1 and 1s. That hurt. We could have used the opportunity to match.
Just saw the replay, and that inbound play was horrendous. They played right into their tight zone and Barber made a horrible decision and pass. Bummer.
WeAreCuredParticipantIf they just could have had 6 timeouts instead of 5…
WeAreCuredParticipantI’m not so sure Boeheim did anything to win that one. He recruits good players and teaches them to play a good zone, no doubt. Somehow someway they keep winning these close ones.
Agree. We had no timeouts and they had a tight, aggressive zone that was not being whistled.
WeAreCuredParticipantI had to watch on ESPN3, and it’s not up for replay yet. Has anyone had a chance to rewind and watch the inbound/turnover sequence again? Was it as panicky as I remember?
WeAreCuredParticipantJust heard an unrelated news story, and the end line was “You can’t control the events, only how you react to them.” It certainly fits in this case.
Re: Des – State kept playing after his miscue and Anthony drew the key foul against Ennis. There was still a game to be won. They could have packed it in.
We know that. I just hope he does.
WeAreCuredParticipantI hope tonight proved to them that they belong, and they go out and win every game left.
However, tonight will probably just break their hearts. Especially, poor poor Dez.
WeAreCuredParticipantIt would be so nice to be on the right side of these awesome games. It happens every season. So cruel.
WeAreCuredParticipantCured, it’s a Catch-22 with the TOs. I think calling them kept State as close as they were.
Definitely. Just wish we had one more for that inbounds play.
WeAreCuredParticipantI’m pretty sure I speak for everyone on Earth when I say that I knew calling those two timeouts on back to back trips down to deplete them would come back to haunt us. What an unsatisfying finish.
WeAreCuredParticipantFinally!!!!!! Solid call!
WeAreCuredParticipantPoor, Dez…
They are who we thought they were! And we let ’em off the hook!

Please get the ball in the damn bucket! Some phantom calls, but a lot of them are legit dumb fouls. Still, if we could shoot from the line, we would win.
It’s the complete lack of any calls on su
Sho nuff.
WeAreCuredParticipantPlease, Turner! Please!
Free throws! FREE!
WeAreCuredParticipantPlease get the ball in the damn bucket!

WeAreCuredParticipantHow does Lunardi still have Clemson above State in his bracketology? Granted, he doesn’t have them as in, but he does have them as the 6th team out on the bubble, with State nowhere to be seen on said bubble. He still has FSU in, as well. That says a lot about the value he places on who you beat.
In:
FSU RPI – 64
FSU SOS – 43
*wins over VCU (23) and UMass (20) on neutral floorsBubble:
Clemson RPI – 68
Clemson SOS – 127
*Win over Duke (8) at homeNo-Man’s Land:
State RPI – 51
State SOS – 39
*win @ Tenn. (50)Better numbers, but no wins to speak of. They have to win at least one of the @ Cuse, UNC, @ Pitt games, but I don’t see it happening. This season’s chances at the NCAA Tourney were over very early (January 4th) with the Pitt home loss, preceded by the @ Cincy loss in November and the Missouri home loss.
FSU, like State, has 3 opportunities to boost their RPI before the ACCT, with 2 of the 3 being at home. Tennessee will need to hold on for dear life to remain a top 50 team, as they only have 2 remaining games against number 48 Missouri as their only two games providing any sort of opportunity. They could do something in the SECT, though. That said, State could very easily end up with 0 top 50 wins. I actually think this is the most likely scenario.
More or less, State is not in a very good position at the moment, but they have some opportunities ahead. Still, I can’t see it happening. Too many chances squandered.
I’m not that disappointed, though. I didn’t expect anything above middle of the pack in the ACC this year, and am actually pleased with that outcome. They’ve gotten better as the season has progressed, and that is nice to see. I hope TJ comes back. If so, next year could be an above average season. If not, likely more of the same, but like I said, if “the same” means getting better as the season goes on, then that is fine by me. If you put enough seasons like that together, you may rise to the top eventually.
WeAreCuredParticipantWell, about a third of the members here predicted 7-9 ACC wins in the front page poll, so 4-5 is right on target. I’m not sure a third of the members are geniuses, but that seems like the correct ratio of level-headed, reasonable State fans.
WeAreCuredParticipantGreat top 50 RPI win! A lot of positives from this game. V-berg and the Barber/Lewis split are really starting to come together. Giving up a 15 free throw advantage is a sure fire way to lose, but they managed to gut it out. Things are starting to come together, and I’m actually looking forward to seeing what they can do from here on out. Actually improving is refreshing.
WeAreCuredParticipantMaryland – 76
State – 65WeAreCuredParticipantDoug Gottlieb: “Outside of TJ Warren, NC State stinks.” Awesome.
WeAreCuredParticipantPretty sure the reason they’re losing has more to do with playing 1 on 5 ball with 0 passing against a team that knows you are going to do that than lack of foul calls on Duke. State was in the bonus with 9 to play…
WeAreCuredParticipantWe suck so bad.
