    Gerhard’s Cafe, Spartanburg, SC

Last year we were in town for business and discovered this place. Classic Austrian & German food. They have 2 dining rooms. One formal, one informal. I had a tall glass of Warsteiner & the Elk Rouladen with Spaetzel and red cabbage. I’m sure having so many native Germans in town due to BMW keeps them in business.

    Amazing.

My wife and I stayed up to watch the end of the draft last night. I hoped Cat would go at 54 to Atlanta. When they picked another PG and then Paige was taken at 55, let’s just say I was upset. Stupid Marcus Paige.

I hope Cat makes it as a Pelican.

And imagine where we’d be right now if DSJr’s grandma wasn’t a huge NC State fan & *NC was not under a cloud of suspicion with the NCAA’s. Without Grandmama, there’s a very low chance that we land the #1 PG in the land. Hanging by a thread.

My 5 year old, the boy, picked a good year to start paying attention to Wolfpack sports. Where he used to ask me “Who’s better, the Wolfpack or fill in the blank“, before a game. Now a days, the question goes “is fill in the blank also better than us?

my two year old, does love rooting for kitty cat Barber.

You guys think it’s painful to watch this team? Compared to when BJD and I were at every home game from November 1991 through March 1996 screaming our heads off for those teams, this team is streets ahead. I was (and will always be) Curtis Marshall’s #1 fan, but there’s no comparison.

    I assume it’s his size.

I watched most of a documentary yesterday on some channel about Allen Iverson. Great stuff if you get a chance to watch it. I was always a fan of AI. He has a rough story, but he was an awesome player to watch. They showed a lot of footage of the beatings he took in the league. I don’t expect Cat to be as good as AI, but I see similarities in size, speed and playing style. Not to mention the Tidewater, VA connection.

So I guess my wild theory is dead. Per Coach Gottfried after the VT game:

[Dennis Smith] is not going to play this year. He’s in school, and we’re going to utilize the fact that he enrolled to get him ready for next year with all the rehab, but he’s not going to play this year. That’s something we’re not even going to consider.

    Gulp…

I guess it helps that Bam’s Team Loaded buddies DSJr. has already said “yes” to us and Kirk has already said “no” to Calipari. The quote about “preparing him for where he wants to end up” is a good argument for UK. They’ve proven that they are in the national stage & can put bigs in the top of the NBA draft.

The comparison, physically, to Shawn Kemp made me perk up. Thinking of a young Kemp on our squad is pretty exciting. Looking at Bam, he reminds me of JJ Hickson.

    @peteavio

I think the new & improved BJD has just finally gotten the right balance of (self-induced) medications. With all this talk of Migjen Bakali, I fully expect next that he’ll share his Mark Davis (M.D., Doctor of the three) story from the day after the LRI(tm) game in March 1992.

Sounds like a cool event. If I lived closer to Raleigh, I’d take my kids.

Plus the chance to see Bob “Who you?” Etheridge.

Re facing Hornsby, that’s just the way it is.

No you didn’t just go there.

I recall that Bruce H is a UVA guy and actually quite a baller himself.

I expect him to go after the season.

I’d be shocked if he stayed.

I’ve been thinking the same thing about Kyle for a few weeks now. If he leaves, does that improve our chances with Brandon Ingram? Or does Ingram overlap more with Caleb as far as role on the court (3/4 not 4/5)? Looking for a silver lining here.

Per PackPride on Twitter: “NC State’s last made FT in the game was by BeeJay Anya with 19:17 to go in the 2nd half”

That right there is how you lose a close game on the road.

We drove back and forth from Charlotte to watch the game Friday night. The next morning my sister-in-law went into premature labor and delivered my nephew in Rocky Mount, NC. I wish we had spent the night in Raleigh after the game and saved lots of driving back and forth across the state!

Also, his grandparents on the other side were huge ECU fans and had to skip the game to be at the hospital. Must have been bittersweet to have to miss the “game of the century” in Greenville to be there for a grandbaby’s birth!

When they went zone in the 2nd half, we went with a 4-guard lineup (Cat, Lacey, Turner, Dez) plus DCMKHA (Don’t Call Me King Hippo Anymore – BJD, I can come up with my own abbreviations too :P). On the offensive end this helped move the ball, but we paid for it on the defensive end. There was one possession where they must have had 4 O rebounds and 6 shots.

Thankfully TurnUp22 caught fire and kept it comfortable.

I was really hoping that Le Nard would get his double-double after fouling out in the first game. If Cat can continue polishing his 3-point shot and be consistent from the line, our guard play will cause headaches.

    BJD,

Agreed on BeeJay. You can tell when he’s having fun out on the court. Gotta love the guy.

I think I’m going to like Abu’s personality too. He seems like a pretty happy guy just from what I’ve seen from him so far.

So did the University have to kiss the ring of the NSA in order to get the semiconductor deal? Not at all happy about having the NSA running their crap on my alma mater’s campus.

Excuse me while I turn my Rockwell/Paul mode off…
