State lost to Cincy, so it doesn’t matter very much how they do come Selection Sunday. A better W/L record would help State’s SOS, but that will be a pretty minor effect over-all.
VaWolf82KeymasterThe solution is to create the marketable package with 9 games which could possibly lure ND into full time participation or push them out for a better full time member. The NBC deal with ND is not a lifetime agreement.
NBC stuck with ND when they sucked. So there is no reason to think that NBC will pull out anytime soon.
Several years ago, there was an article that talked about how the ND athletic dept made enough money that they were donating around $1M every year to the school. As long as the AD is running a budget surplus, ND might not even be interested in joining a conference even if it could offer a better TV package.
BTW, where do you expect to find “a better full time member”?
VaWolf82KeymasterSo far this year, Leonard Hamilton has been channeling his inner-Sendek. 0-3 against the top 1/3 of the conference and 4-0 against the bottom 2/3.
State might get blown out at home (again), but FSU is usually much tougher at home than on the road. I remember one game against FSU during the Sendek years, where State went something like 7-8 with six 3-ptrs to open the game. Hit ’em early and hope that they collapse.
VaWolf82KeymasterOnly 14 teams for football..14*9=126
VaWolf82KeymasterThe bottom line from all such speculative articles:
But, TV money may trump.
But in this particular case, the money pressure also benefits the people in the stands as well as the TV audience. The open issue is whether or not the TV money is sufficient to make up for one less home game (and its associated revenue) some years.
01/28/2014 at 12:54 PM in reply to: The Basketball team may be in better shape that I thought #38816VaWolf82KeymasterAs you showed above, State only has 3 games remaining against the 5 teams at the top of the conference. But State’s ACC schedule was not balanced having played 3 games against the Top 5 in the first five games of their conference slate. On the other end of the scale, State plays the minimum of four games against the bottom of the conference…
with only the ND game completed. So I have to agree that the schedule seems favorable towards racking up wins…even if the final destination is the NIT.
EDIT
OOOPS….State has played two games against the bottom 4 (ND and GT)VaWolf82KeymasterI’m just amazed at the rosy-red view after beating one of the worst teams in the conference. It’s certainly way better than a loss…but it doesn’t feel me with confidence for the remainder of the year.
Different Subject:
For those that haven’t seen the new ACC tourney format:VaWolf82KeymasterPardon me, VaWolf.
No problems. If we (ie Central VA) got half of the accumulation that was forecasted here, we would be waist deep every winter. I haven’t shoveled my driveway since my oldest was in kindergarten when we got 2 feet in 48 hours. BTW, he graduated college last spring.
VaWolf82KeymasterOpposing coaches and some media experts also told us that Sendek was a good coach.
VaWolf82KeymasterFor me, it simply comes down to money out of my pocket. I’ve run the numbers several times over the years and never found an example that had a decent ROI. But here’s a study that concludes that over 5 years, 13 of 33 hybrid models had a lower cost of ownership than the equivalent gasoline model.

I keep my cars longer than 5 years, so this analysis appears to be incomplete. It doesn’t look like differences in maintenance costs (if there are any significant differences) or the cost of battery replacement is included. For those that trade within the 5 year period, it would be good to know if there is any difference in resale value.
VaWolf82KeymasterIt’s time to replace the batteries in your sarcasm detector.
VaWolf82KeymasterAnyone that compares this team to 1983….well never mind.
VaWolf82Keymaster54F today at lunch in Central VA. Down to about 10F tonight and we won’t be back above freezing until Thursday.
I keep hoping that global warming will eventually reach here.
VaWolf82KeymasterSorry, anyone that thinks this team is bad hasn’t been watching….With only two exceptions, there has not been a game this year that we didn’t have a chance to win.
Les Robinson and Sidney Lowe have pretty much defined “bad” for State fans. And by those standards, this team is not bad. However, there is a long way between that level of “bad” and any reasonable definition of “good”.
My definition of “no chance of winning” is a little different than yours.
74-62
95-60
76-45
68-57Combine those scores with no Top-50 wins and a loss to NC-Central, and there is no reason to think that this team is good.
VaWolf82KeymasterState struggled to beat one of the worst teams in the ACC in Raleigh. Past experience says that new bright spots seen today will not be found when a good team is played.
VaWolf82KeymasterI espeially like the 3 Stooges triple face palm.
State can win…now it’s up to them to do it.
VaWolf82KeymasterThis is why I don’t usually do “subtle”…your carefully planned joke falls flat.
Which one of these is not like the others?01/23/2014 at 4:33 PM in reply to: 2014 NC State Football Schedule is Out with Quick Thoughts #38212VaWolf82KeymasterI just believe that you get better by playing teams better than you.
Alot of people claimed that ACC football would get alot better after adding FSU in the 90s. How did that work out?
VaWolf82KeymasterCBS Sports breaks down SOS into non-conference, conference, and overall. Of the six teams in the middle of the conference (per RPI), State has the toughest conference SOS by a good margin. So unless you expected to State to contend for the upper 1/3 of the conference, then the results to date aren’t surprising. (And if you expected State to finish near the top of the conference, then there isn’t much that I can say.)
If State is actually in the middle of the conference, then it needs to win the next two games and prove it. If State is actually in the bottom 1/3 of the conference (which the loss to NC-Central has always suggested), then get ready for a whole lot of ugly.
VaWolf82KeymasterWhat a complete D bag Sherman is.
I guess Seattle needed someone to counter Kapernick

Well, do you have any thoughts on numbers for the lottery?
VaWolf82KeymasterMissed the 1st half driving home from NC. Got back just in time to watch the first drive of the 2nd drive…very impressive. You can color this game over…even if the Broncos don’t punch this over.
VaWolf82KeymasterAnyone who trusts the unsupported claims of an organization that sanctioned the AFAM sham is naive, stupid, a UNC fan…or some combination. As we saw when McAdoo’s paper was first made public, UNC has absolutely no interest in getting to the depth and breadth of their problems.
I found it interesting that the comments centered on WM’s summary of reading/writing skills. If the data supported 9th grade skills instead of 4th-8th, you could still legitimately claim that her conclusions were false….all without admitting that MW had uncovered a serious problem.
The reading/writing skills are really a side issue. The real issue is what did UNC do to correct the problems…and how that they kept those athletes eligible.
VaWolf82KeymasterIt’s quite comfortable under my rock. 🙂
VaWolf82KeymasterHas anyone else ever noticed that “next year” never seems to get here?
