What? No love for Kenny Drummond? Talk about addition by subtraction…
Didn’t he keep the ball out of Kenny Smith’s hands on the final play?
Like Tex, I also taped the ESPN replay. But I doubt that I could find that tape, even if my life depended on it.
VaWolf82KeymasterThe Dance Card is being updated daily. So we’ll be able to track the changes on the Bubble if there are any upsets on Fri/Sat.
VaWolf82KeymasterFYI…I merged the two “TJ wins POY” threads into this one. (It looks like everything worked.)
Congrats to TJ.
VaWolf82KeymasterDoes no one look at the tables in my entries?
The bottom six went 6-26 against the Top-4.
VaWolf82KeymasterBad hires are only one part of the problem. “Average” coaching can be even worse because it can be so much harder to move past.
VaWolf82KeymasterReally? Just because it didn’t happen for the Pack (at least not yet) doesn’t mean it didn’t happen for others.
You missed several. Look at the table in the entry.
I agree with Alpha. The middle of the conference is extremely weak…which makes the conference weak overall. State, Pitt, and FSU were a combined 0-15 against the Top 4. Clemson and UMD got one win each. That makes the middle of the conference a combined 2-22 against the top-4 seeds.
That record doesn’t support the claim that any team can beat any other team.
VaWolf82KeymasterACC middle tier loses to top tier and some lower tier – “middle tier sucks”
You left out the middle tier’s poor performance against quality OOC opponents.
The “middle tier sucks” is not “half-full”, it’s just a realistic assessment.
VaWolf82KeymasterGregory has kept GT about where they were, so neither good nor bad.
4-12, 6-12, and 6-12 counts as bad to me
VaWolf82KeymasterJust FYI, Lunardi currently has Pitt in as a 10 seed.
Without the Dance Card, I would have to wonder if that was an honest evaluation or based on everyone’s opinion from a month ago. (Which is what I meant when I said that math has no memory.) Personally, I would put Pitt at a 11 or 12 seed…but it’s all just guesses until the conference tourneys finish.
VaWolf82KeymasterWe don’t care how hard you have to work, but I don’t see the need for a 4th team. But adding a 4th team makes alot more sense than 10 first-teamers.
VaWolf82KeymasterA lot of people draw more from a close loss than I do. Three losses to RPI 100+ teams deserve at least as much attention when evaluating State.
VaWolf82KeymasterI know PNC can be loud when we are winning
And Reynolds was quiet and half-full when State was losing. The major problem with the ESA/RBC/PNC is the overall poor quality of BB played by the home team since it was opened.
It is also important to note that State has ranked in the top-25 nationally in attendance ever since the PNC was opened. Just another piece of data proving that fan support is not the problem. Give the fans something to cheer for and they will respond…no matter where the games are played.
In short…The arena is not the problem. The fans are not the problem. Anyone that claims otherwise is horribly wrong.
VaWolf82KeymasterThis is all I can find.

Have you tried cutting the post in half?VaWolf82KeymasterSomeone that can do more than spell HTML will have to tell us what’s going on.
I finally found your post under “TOPICS” and changed the status from “pending” to “open”
VaWolf82KeymasterSince a game can NOT end on a penalty, Shane Montgomery hurled the tater for all that he was worth and it was caught by Danny Peebles….and we WON the game
Are you talking about the game against South Carolina in Raleigh? Kramer to Peebles on an untimed play to end the game?
but I remember the game….just a little fuzzy on the year and the participants…
I feel your fuzziness. Here is a great link for football history (and fading memories):
http://www.cfbdatawarehouse.com/data/div_ia/acc/north_carolina_state/index.phpThe year-by-year records just helped me chase down another game against VT that came down to a last-second FG.
It was 1992 and about 20 State/Tech grads and spouses/dates from work got block seats for the game. State was down three and attempted a FG for the tie on the last play of the game. It was the ugliest looking kick that I have ever seen go through the uprights. When we got home and watched the 11 pm news, they showed that the ball had been tipped at the LOS, but went through anyway.
VaWolf82KeymasterOutstanding update. Thanks.
VaWolf82KeymasterJust remembered two more field goals starting with the 1986 Peach Bowl. We were in the process of moving back to the east coast and my brother was a junior or senior at State. He got us tickets and we watched the fake injury to stop the clock and the VT field goal to win the game.
For me, the Tom Reed years were reduced to quick updates from my mom whenever we talked on the phone. After three years of that crap, my brother and his friends were just happy to have beaten UNC and played in a bowl.
My son and I went to Blacksburg in 2004 for the first State/VT ACC game. We were standing at the exit and got a good view of the missed VT FG as time expired.
VaWolf82KeymasterI will start deleting next time I see it.
Too late, I already did.
VaWolf82KeymasterVaWolf failed to mention the 4th and 38 conversion by Penn State to set up the 54 yd FG to beat us
We won the ACC but did not go to a bowl game
I was thinking 4th and 24…but it’s been a few years.
I think about turning down the Garden St bowl during exams and the fact that it was State’s only option every time some young’in around here starts bitching about the current bowl system.
VaWolf82KeymasterI saw:
…The last football conference championship and was sitting with the band for Penn St’s 54 yd field goal as time expired.
…Clyde Austin pass between his legs to Hawkeye Whitney for a slam and a run-away victory against UNC. I also saw Austin’s “pass” to Dudley Bradley for a slam.
…State score 110 points in Reynolds against UMD….and lose (No OT).
…State open the second-half against UNC with a on-side kick (recovered by UNC).
VaWolf82KeymasterI once saw a list of things to pull for in a Duke/UNC game. But I only remember two:
– Pull for a sinkhole to open and swallow the auditorium
– Pull for the visiting team so that you can get the sideline shots of the students crying at the end of the game.VaWolf82KeymasterHis job should be results driven and his results are poor.
But which results do you judge him by?
Swoff didn’t make anyone hire Lowe, Bzdelik, Doherty or anyone else. When basketball schools like UMD and NCSU suck, how is that Swoff’s fault?
Swoff’s biggest responsibilities are financial ones. Considering how badly ACC football has always been and how far the basketball programs have fallen, it’s going to be difficult to prove that he left money on the table with ABC/ESPN (or that there were better options).
Swoff cherry-picked the Big East apart and only lost Maryland. By all of the reports that I’ve seen, every expansion has led to bigger TV contracts and more money per school. (Do you really think that the 9-team ACC would be financially viable today? I sure don’t.) The ACC is still here, while the BE has split and become C-USA on steroids.
There have been some rumblings about nepotism with the Raycom contract…but I don’t have any data to say that there were legitimate options other than Raycom for the games that ESPN doesn’t want.
Now that the ACC has vested so much into the Duke/UNC game
Is this Swoff or ESPN/Vitale?
VaWolf82KeymasterND’s regular season is over…they’re stuck on Wed.
WF sits at 5-11 and hosts Duke on Wed. WF can’t catch State and a loss to Duke locks them into Wed as well.UM sits at 6-10 with a split against State and they play at Clemson tonight. A UM loss means that they can’t catch State and at best could tie UMD (assuming that UMD loses to VT and UVA).
All of this means that the Wed/Thurs ACCT split will be probably be decided by Wed night.
VaWolf82KeymasterUpdated the comparison between Pitt’s collapse and the one that drove Herb out of town.
http://www.statefansnation.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/Pitt-NCSU_2.jpg
From Jerry Palm on Pitt
We welcome Pittsburgh to the bottom of the bracket and to the bubble after another home loss to a non-contender. This time, it was North Carolina State taking down the Panthers. They have just one win over a likely tournament team (Stanford in New York). They also have a bad non-conference schedule. That’s not a great combination.
Here’s another nugget about UNC and the ACC in general:
North Carolina won its 12th straight conference game, but the most remarkable thing about that is they did so beating only one sure tournament team (Duke), and one bubble team (Pitt), both at home. It used to be you couldn’t go a week without playing a potential tournament team in the ACC.
VaWolf82KeymasterThat numbnuts Goodman basically
Anytime anyone from cbssports writes anything about State, you can be assured that they are trolling for mouse clicks. The next time they write anything good about State or State fans will be the first time.
