But would a .500 ACC record not get us or Wake into the RPI top 50?
It wasn’t good enough for Syracuse last year. They were 10-8 in conference, with a miserable OOC schedule, and had an RPI Ranking of 76 going into the ACCT.
In contrast to SYR, WF played a bruising OOC schedule and finished with an 8-8 conference record. Their RPI ranking was 28th going into the ACCT.
Syracuse had more Top 25 and Top 50 wins and neither did anything remarkable in the ACCT. But who got into the NCAAT and who was a #1 seed in the NIT?
Bottom Line: OOC schedule matters.
VaWolf82KeymasterLast week was the first time I watched a UGA game. Was impressed with their comeback last week and just flat out impressed tonight.
VaWolf82Keymaster“Do the numbers suggest that ALL Four teams have a relatively equal chance of dancing?”
No, not by a long shot.
Simplistically speaking, you need a 0.500 conference record and a Top 50 RPI to go dancing. State and Wake are a long way from a Top 50 RPI ranking.
VaWolf82KeymasterNext year won’t be much better in terms of wins and losses.
That’s my fear as well.
VaWolf82KeymasterLooking really ugly so far. Too many Pack turnovers and too many easy shots for the Irish.
VaWolf82KeymasterEditoral Note:
I corrected the “OUT” category to RPI Ranking >75. A couple of years ago, Syracuse got in with 72 and there was one other team some time ago that got in with >70 (too lazy to look up).
VaWolf82KeymasterI’m assuming State will essentially be a coin flip on getting into the dance.
I’m afraid that the odds of starting conference play 0-5 are better than getting into any post-season tournament.
From teamrankings.com, here’s their projections of State winning each game over the next two weeks:
Notre Dame (A) – 14.9%
Duke (H) – 14.2%
Clemson (H) – 38.1%
Virginia (A) – 7.8%The odds of winning at ND are probably better than currently projected since ND just lost their best player for two months:
VaWolf82KeymasterYou always play your best players. Period. You develop young players in practice against the starters…not in games playing in place of the better player.
It’s all about building for the future this year.
My guess is that the building won’t really start until next year’s freshman arrive on campus.
VaWolf82KeymasterThis team is going to struggle in league play.
That’s pretty much what I’ve been expecting ever since last year turned to crap.
VaWolf82KeymasterI thought the Roy rogers was on Hillsboro near Meredith.
It was when I was at State.
VaWolf82KeymasterI went to countless games from the time my son was 5 through high school. Good Lord willing, I won’t have to go to another one until a grand kid comes along.
VaWolf82KeymasterI haven’t watched the last season of Longmire yet, but I will get to it. I’ve thought about reading the Longmire books (12 so far), but haven’t started on them yet.
I’ve read the GOT novels, but never watched the series. Six years and counting waiting on the 6th book. It’s safe to say that I have pretty much forgotten where everyone is and why I should care. In fact, I’m not sure I care enough to read the next one whenever it is released.
Punisher was pretty good. Though the ending made me wonder whether they’re planning Season 2 or not.
VaWolf82KeymasterThey beat Clemson in another classic and then beat the Georgia/Oklahoma winner (I’m not sure who that will actually be)
I’ll cheat and take the winner of the Clemson/Alabama game.
VaWolf82KeymasterVT’s coach is showing up in rumors for FSU, but he says that he has declined to talk to those that have called.
VaWolf82KeymasterBruce Feldman Twitter
(@BruceFeldmanCFB)#Tennessee coaching search update: Source tells me #NCState’s Dave Doeren who the #Vols have now targeted, has a contract offer in front of him from NCSU with increases compensation and years, as well as an enhanced salary pool for his staff.
VaWolf82KeymasterI just don’t see a coaching search for us going swimmingly.
The last several FB coaching searches went far better than the BB searches that ended up with Lowe and Gott in Raleigh. Both TOB and DD were “reasonable” hires, even if neither was considered a home run.
VaWolf82KeymasterI had to google Chad Morris to find out who he is. Here’s a summary of places he’s been tied to this time on the carousel.
…if Doeren leaves North Carolina State, Morris would seem like a good candidate there, too. Before SMU, he was the offensive coordinator at Clemson, so he is familiar with the Carolinas and the ACC. He also interviewed for the NC State job in 2012, when Doeren got the job.
VaWolf82KeymasterTenn AD might not be in Rocky Top much longer.
VaWolf82Keymasterit’s my understanding we’re still paying Gottfried. Are we impacted by that bad hire?
Good question and I wish that I knew. But if Gott is affecting negotiations, its not the “hire” that caused a budget crisis, it’s the extension/raise that Gott received just before the wheels fell off.
VaWolf82KeymasterWe finished at 8-4, which is exactly what I thought before the year. We lost to S.Carolina and WF, which I didn’t expect, but beat FSU and Louisville.
8-4 was my best-case scenario. That would have dropped to 6-6 if you had told me that State would lose to both SC and WF.
I think if you gave me 6-2 before the season started, I would have taken it.
Absolutely!
VaWolf82KeymasterDespite all the hype about our “great defense”
How much of this was pre-season?
we were clearly very weak overall against the pass
The pass defense was weak last year (as well as kicking) and I knew of no reason to think that either group would be better this year….and they weren’t. Those two groups were shown to be weak again this year which is why I didn’t buy the hype that was building before the ND game.
VaWolf82KeymasterWe have the talent to be better than our record would indicate.
Based on what?
VaWolf82KeymasterMy phone app says they are playing in the Bahamas.
VaWolf82KeymasterI jumped in on the point-spread thread too soon. Here’s how the various stats match-up between State and WF:
