Texas AD Steve Patterson: Rick Barnes must fire assistants or be fired himself
http://www.burntorangenation.com/2015/3/26/8298399/steve-patterson-rick-barnes-texas-basketball-fire-assistantsTexas head coach Rick Barnes not expected to return

VaWolf82KeymasterBilas loves him some Sendek while also saying nice things about Capel.
“The biggest home run would have been to keep Herb Sendek,” Jay Bilas told Burns and Gambo Wednesday on Arizona Sports 98.7 FM. “I think Herb was a terrific coach. I think at Arizona State, if you have somebody that doesn’t hang as many Final Four banners as they already had hanging up there, then that’s fine to fire him.
“But they didn’t have any. So until the institution makes a commitment to basketball, they’re going to keep getting the same results no matter who they hire.”
VaWolf82KeymasterGregg Marshall’s biggest coaching decision of his life now awaits him
It’s no guarantee he’ll leave, but things are about to get very interesting. The big story from C-Town on Thursday night — outside of that smothering Kentucky did against West Virginia — is what Marshall’s future holds. His season is now over. The time has come for others to bear gifts for Marshall’s services. If he does leave Wichita, it will have some of the biggest ripple effects in college basketball this offseason. Will he take the Alabama job? Is Texas going to open, and if it does, will Marshall be the No. 1 target?

I could see him taking the Texas job if it was available and offered. I would be a little surprised if he goes to Alabama based on earlier comments he has made about wanting to coach a winner.
VaWolf82KeymasterYou left out the Blacklist on NBC at 9pm.
VaWolf82KeymasterBumping so that I see if Fowler can catch WolfWiz.
03/26/2015 at 3:04 PM in reply to: Pennsylvania Columnist David Jones: “Louisville-NC State could pass for an NIT semifinal” #82750VaWolf82KeymasterHe’s playing to his home crowd. But I don’t understand how running State down would make ‘Nova fans feel better.
Oh well, no one ever said that today’s writers were very smart.
VaWolf82KeymasterI will be drinking my PBR for the third time during the tournament. Funny how a tourney run can make you feel like you’re a college kid again.
I only drank PBR on Nickel Night (Thursday) at Crazy Zacks (That should date me fairly well). I haven’t had it since and won’t be starting this week.
VaWolf82KeymasterAll good questions, but I don’t have many answers. But as I mentioned in the article, Gottfried was hired in the spring and redid the OOC schedule for that fall. So most games appear to be done rather last minute.
Obviously home/home games with teams like WVU and Cincy have a little longer scheduling period. I have no clue about the buyout figures.
VaWolf82KeymasterI think it is easy to confuse scheduling strong opponents and big names.
It definitely is, but you also have to sympathize with season ticket holders who are not going to get excited over a game with BSU or watching a loss to Wofford. Though for now, a S-16 (or better) finish should sell plenty of tickets for next year.
VaWolf82KeymasterGott has the scheduling formula figured out. He should present a paper at the coaches meeting next weekend…..if he’s not coaching.
It works to State’s favor that some coaches never figure this whole thing out. If more teams started scheduling better, it would make it harder to have an OOC ranked in the Top 50.
VaWolf82KeymasterAre you f#cking for real?
I got a box of crackers going stale that are more important than what happens to a frat.
And those saltines show better.
Glad I had swallowed my Mt Dew before opening this thread.
VaWolf82KeymasterAre yall happy to be here, everything else is gravy, will be pissed if we lose or sacrifice a kitten if we don’t win the NC?
The team has exceeded all expectations and should be proud of their accomplishments. Everything from here on out is definitely gravy.
Two ways that I will be pissed:
If the State team that showed up against BC (and several other games) makes another appearance.
If State loses the game like they lost the ND game (4 pt lead and the ball with a minute to play).VaWolf82KeymasterNote that with MSU the narrative is that Izzo developed the team over the course of the season. You can look at these situations either way.
I suspect that the “conclusions” have more to do with the coaches’ reputations than any special knowledge or analysis of this year.
VaWolf82KeymasterSendek’s work doesn’t look much better even if you take his last five years and put them in context:
VaWolf82Keymasterits funny that Mark Gottfried gets no credit for great coaching
It’s not funny, it’s unfortunately sad yet accurate. He was also the coach when State got their ass kicked by at home by Clemson, WF, and BC. That’s not a sign of great coaching.
VaWolf82KeymasterESPN has a short article up on all 16 teams:
http://espn.go.com/blog/collegebasketballnation/tag/_/name/2015-sweet-16-first-lookVaWolf82KeymasterMore ESPN:
Dana O’Neil: The Wolfpack have been so wildly unpredictable this season, the fact that they put two games together back-to-back is stunning. NC State always had talent, but it was never a given it would put it together.
Hmmmm, well some of that is warranted, but Dana’s comment is a bit over the top.
http://espn.go.com/ncb/notebook/_/page/dailyword150323/daily-word
Over the top? I think that the comments are brutally honest.
VaWolf82KeymasterACC to net over $28M off tourney
This is a more important record to shoot for.
VaWolf82KeymasterCBS reseeds the S-16
14. NC State (East). You knock off a No. 1 seed, I have to put you 14 at worst, no matter the seed. The Wolfpack have wins over two No. 1 seeds; they beat Duke back in January. Mark Gottfried’s team always is capable of letting bad luck affect good fortune, but in pulling out a double-digit comeback win over LSU and then pounding Villanova out of its game, the Pack’s back in the second weekend for the second time under Gottfried. B.J. Anya, Trevor Lacey, Cat Barber and Malik-Abdul Abu. They can beat Louisville, absolutely.
VaWolf82KeymasterNeed to make the skull a little smaller
VaWolf82KeymasterBig Improvement for Duke
VaWolf82KeymasterThey [L’ville] were missing a player,
Who? Chris Jones played against State.
VaWolf82KeymasterFlashback to ND
VaWolf82KeymasterI like the announcer’s nickname for Lacey…Smooth Operator
VaWolf82Keymaster‘Short Drive’ has been presented for consideration.
No, No, No
I was making fun of BJD, as in “a short drive to insanity”.
