Unused scholarships eventually turn into open holes in your line-up whenever kids leave early. If no one leaves early this year, it will be the first time during Gott’s tenure.
VaWolf82KeymasterStarters returning: 14
That’s not a great sign. Returners off of the two-deep would probably be a better stat to track.
VaWolf82Keymasterhttp://www.macon.com/2015/03/31/3671291/oklahoma-state-ad-ford-will-remain.html
Oklahoma State athletic director Mike Holder said in a statement Tuesday that Travis Ford will remain Oklahoma State’s head basketball coach, despite reports and rumors saying Ford’s job is in jeopardy.
If any school out there is thinking about approaching Ford, I suspect that he would be willing to listen.
VaWolf82KeymasterLong article that summarizes alot of the players in this year’s coaching carousel
http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2414215-texas-sized-college-basketball-coaching-carousel-kicking-into-high-gearFormer coach Herb Sendek has long been regarded as a top-flight X’s and O’s tactician, but his reserved, introverted nature did nothing to evoke passion and excitement among fans and couldn’t have played well on the recruiting trail.
Strange, Herb isn’t linked to any of the open jobs.
VaWolf82KeymasterIf K wins the NC, is there any possibility that he hangs it up, going out on the best of high notes?
Of course, but this is the wrong question. The right question is “Will K leave with no notice like Deano”. I doubt it and expect that there will be a plan in place before anything is made public.
VaWolf82KeymasterAlmost every State coach has/had a Sunshine Squad, but Herb’s went to extremes that I’ve never seen before or since. Many of my entries the first two years at SFN were focused on dismantling their BS.
Believe it or not, one of the charter members was recently seen recycling that BS on the PackPride thread on his termination.

VaWolf82KeymasterVice President of Athletics Ray Anderson met Monday with Duke associate head coach Jeff Capel, azcentral sports confirmed. This is believed to be the first face-to-face meeting ASU has had with a candidate to replace fired coach Herb Sendek. The location of the meeting was not known.
VaWolf82KeymasterHadn’t heard about that
The Oklahoma State Cowboys are considering the possibility of firing coach Travis Ford after the team was ousted in the first round of the NCAA tournament for the third straight year, sources confirmed to ESPN.com’s Jeff Goodman.
The chance of Ford being fired is “50-50,” one source close to the situation said.
The news was first reported by The Oklahoman, which cited multiple unnamed sources. The move would trigger a buyout worth at least $9.6 million, according to the Oklahoma newspaper, which reported the amount as the remainder of Ford’s contract.
EDIT
Tried to give credit to Oklahoma newspaper, but they want people to pay to read. Really?VaWolf82KeymasterIndirectly tied to coaching carousel:

VaWolf82KeymasterCincinnati’s Mick Cronin cleared to resume coaching
Bearcats coach Mick Cronin was cleared to resume coaching on Monday after missing most of the season because of a problem with a blood vessel in the back of his brain.
Larry Davis took over and led the Bearcats to the NCAA Tournament, where they lost to Kentucky in their second game…
Two schools have contacted Davis about open head coaching jobs, impressed with how he handled the team during Cronin’s absence.

If Smart turns down Texas, the Longhorns likely are turn their attention to Utah’s Larry Krystkowiak and Xavier’s Chris Mack.

The odds of that link working appear small. Here’s the bottom line:
Total Expenses: $115.4M
Total Revenue: $152.6MI think it’s safe to say that Alabama can afford to hire a good basketball coach.
EDIT
The link partially worked. It takes you to the first page on Alabama. Hit the “Revenues and Expenses” link to see the breakdown by sport and totals.VaWolf82KeymasterMarshall pretty much said that he would listen to Alabama after the NCAAT. So I don’t see why anyone would be surprised.
I was wondering if anyone would notice the “well-respected” in the blurb I quoted. Thanks to everyone that has resisted the urge to link an article from Doyell or Dave Glenn. There is only so much stupidity that can be absorbed in a single day.
VaWolf82KeymasterJeff Goodman has evidently found another school to “put in their place”
“You’re not going to get Gregg Marshall, Archie Miller or Shaka Smart,” Goodman, a respected and well-connected national college basketball reporter for ESPN, said during a phone interview. “You can throw those out.”
Two coaches Goodman said he could see as potential fits for Alabama are Murray State’s Steve Prohm and Louisiana Tech’s Mike White.
Goodman also mentioned Stephen F. Austin’s Brad Underwood and Valparaiso’s Bryce Drew.

[Mel Allen] completed law school and passed the Alabama bar exam. But during a Christmas vacation in 1936 with friends in New York, he stopped, on a lark, at CBS for an audition and was hired early the next year as a $45-a-week announcer, understudying Mr. Husing in sports and Robert Trout in news.

VaWolf82KeymasterThe first time that I ever really thought about Az State basketball was when Bill Frieder quit Mich right before the NCAAT started. That probably wouldn’t have stayed in my memory were it not for Bo Schembechler’s famous quote when Frieder offered to stay until after the NCAAT was over… “a Michigan man is going to coach a Michigan team”. After that tenure ended poorly, I basically came to the decision that the school was as much of a desert as the countryside….and that was before Herb soaked them for 9 years of salary (+ buyout).
Here’s an article on what the next ASU coach needs to know:
In 1975, Sports Illustrated…[writer] Curry Kirkpatrick…wrote: “Above all the wackiness in the (Western Athletic Conference), there has been the spectacle of an exciting Arizona State team and nobody in Tempe caring.”
Forty years later, not much has changed.
