Bill, if you move to the Piedmont for an occasional snowy day, you risk getting sleet/freezing rain and the resulting power outages that leave you huddled next to the fireplace.
Snow is nice, but I’d swap with you in a blink.
VaWolf82KeymasterHe has, over the past two seasons, started stressing defense much more.
I haven’t noticed significant (or really any) improvement yet….I’ll have to pay more attention.
VaWolf82KeymasterI think an important point is being missed. The issue is not whether or not the transfers are a red flag. I’ll let others figure out if Gott is above or below the national average since I can’t muster any concern over that comparison. Because even if you could prove that transfers are a red flag, there isn’t anything we can do with that information.
The important point is that Gott can’t find enough good players to use the allotted scholarships so early departures continuously leave us short-handed. This situation basically means that State is only a little better off than we were with Sendek….perpetually on the bubble with a S-16 as a peak season.
PS…this is only a rebuilding year if Gott actually lands enough new recruits and keeps enough current players to actually constitute “building”. Time will tell whether he is building, treading water, or sinking.
VaWolf82KeymasterVery solid win on the road. Makes you go hmmmmm.
Not really. Late in the first half, Pitt was shooting 18.8% from the field and ended the game at 36.7%. Hard to win when you can’t hit anything besides the floor with the ball.
For me, the pleasant surprise was State’s good rebounding.
VaWolf82KeymasterI didn’t post speculation as fact. Read what I said.
Your original thread title was “Kirk Will Transfer”
PS – I did read what you said…and it was 30 seconds I’ll never get back.
VaWolf82KeymasterIf he is not getting minutes now during this debacle when exactly will he get time?
Here’s a better way to look at it: If he can’t get time on this team, exactly what Power-5 team could he go to and get more playing time?
VaWolf82KeymasterHighly touted by whom? It looks like you are just making things up to worry about.
PS – Yes I edited your title. Don’t post speculation as fact.
VaWolf82KeymasterA quick glance at the ACC master schedule shows Monday games for most weeks from here on out. So I plan to move the weekly update to Friday starting this week.
Fwiw, the current espn bracketology has seven ACC teams in (UNC, Duke, Miami, Pitt, UVa, Louisville, and Notre Dame).
After the win in Durham, ND joined the other six teams in the group with RPI’s at 40 or better…so it’s not really a surprise that they put ND in.
VaWolf82KeymasterThat’s not the point, Va.
I understand. It’s the exact same thing they said about Sendek…which really boils down to “he’s good enough for you”.
VaWolf82KeymasterSFN has been troubled more from spam than heel trolls since starting the forums here. heeled82 didn’t strike me as a troll and really didn’t say anything that hasn’t been posted here dozens of times before.
VaWolf82KeymasterWhich one of you A%%hat mods edited my post above ???
I said “stupidest” not “premature”…
This sh&t is getting old…
You know it’s not me. I delete posts, not edit them.
I started to lock this thread after the initial post because the premise is stupid because it is premature. But I decided to see how long it would take to spiral out of control .
VaWolf82KeymasterCare to give me an example of a frosh pg carrying a team?
I don’t know what the “92” signifies, but it’s probably not your graduation year. Anyone that seriously asks that question hasn’t watched college basketball for very many years.
VaWolf82KeymasterA coach can be let go for many reasons. There is zero chance that he will be let go based on the W/L record for this year.
VaWolf82KeymasterThis team was supposed to have Trevor, Kyle and a healthy Terry, he can’t control that stuff.
Programs all over the country lose players early EVERY YEAR. If a coach doesn’t have plans for this phenomenon, then he shouldn’t be the coach. I wish people would just drop this excuse….because it isn’t a valid one.
VaWolf82KeymasterOutside of the 10 fan bases, that schedule isn’t going to generate much interest.
VaWolf82KeymasterI just realized that I forgot to give a hat tip to ESPN for their RPI calcs. They provide the option to look at each conference as a whole, which greatly speeds up my table creation.
I’ve used CBS the last several years and I like their team breakdown better than ESPN’s…but that might be because I’ve grown accustomed to it and ESPN’s is arranged differently.
The different sites frequently have small differences in the RPI rankings. In the past, Jerry Palm has shown how judging road/home/neutral is not as easy as it sounds. When he ran his own RPI site/blog, he went through the discussions with the NCAA over this issue and said that even the NCAA made changes when questioned.
The only example that I remember from Palm’s blog was Indiana playing in Indianapolis, but not the university’s gym, counted as a neutral site to the NCAA. Bottom line…don’t sweat small differences.
VaWolf82KeymasterIn Dec, I saw Seth Greenburg predict 9 ACC teams to get in. While I don’t think that the loser of the 8/9 game in the ACCT will have a chance, it shows that at least some people think highly of the top half of the ACC.
Unfortunately, State isn’t anywhere near the top half.
VaWolf82KeymasterGlad he talks southern…..but Jimmy V’s Queen’s accent never seemed to hurt recruiting….
LOL. Good point ‘Roo.
VaWolf82KeymasterIt’s said that apathy is the worst thing to happen to a team in sports
During the Les and early Herb years, I took this attitude one step forward and virtually quit watching college basketball. State sucked year after year and I couldn’t stand watching other teams be successful. I wouldn’t blame anyone that took that position today…but I won’t.
I’ll just fall back to BJD’s “Shadow Pack” and pull for the less offensive teams. Heck I live within 90 minutes of both Virginia schools in the ACC. I can find plenty of friends and co-workers to watch those games with.
VaWolf82KeymasterMore likely, mediocre to poor results on the court/field reduce most people’s enthusiasm for further discussion.
VaWolf82KeymasterVT appears to have hit the wall three games in.
It was fun while it lasted, eh Buzz?Well VT does have 2 ACC wins and a 2-game winning streak. I wonder how long it will take State to win 2 ACC games and also if State will have a 2-game winning streak this year.
VaWolf82KeymasterLast year they [NIT] only took Pitt (19-14) and Miami (21-12). Those were two bubble teams. The 2014 NIT took only FSU (19-13) and Clemson (20-12).
Worth repeating for those who after all of this time still contend that 20 wins guarantees you a bid to the NCAAT.
VaWolf82KeymasterIf Shaka was the only coach that turned down State, then you would be right. But Yow didn’t send out the letter because one coach turned down State. Turning the discussion around, if State was positively viewed, then the last two coaching searches wouldn’t have both turned into disasters.
VaWolf82Keymaster5-10 from the free throw line
1-9 from threeVaWolf82KeymasterThere is no evidence that our program is viewed negatively.
BS.
It took forever on the last two coaching searches to hire a coach. Yow’s search went so poorly she wrote a letter to tell everyone not to lose hope. You can ignore that if you wish, but I’m not.
