A loss to WF would shift a lot more attention to basketball.
State basketball certainly has a lot of interesting pieces. Time will tell if the pieces will make a whole team or not.
VaWolf82KeymasterHe [Gott] has exceeded my expectations, but I didn’t expect banners when he was hired.
I expected slightly better than Sendek results, and that’s pretty much what we’ve seen. I had no expectations with the DD hire…and that’s probably for the best.
VaWolf82KeymasterCD and BOTB, correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe it was Bear Bryant who once said something to the effect of “A good coach can take his’n and beat your’n, and he can take your’n and beat his’n”.
At this point, I am nearly 100% convinced that if you gave DD Alabama, he couldn’t beat ECU.
That was Bum Phillips
I believe that Bum said that about Bear Bryant
VaWolf82Keymasterthus far I think we’re slightly better team
Damning with faint praise?

VaWolf82KeymasterState winning 20-19 at half
VaWolf82KeymasterLOL. You can’t short arm a catch when you’re wide open either
VaWolf82KeymasterDAMN!!!!!! You can’t overthrow a wide open receiver
VaWolf82KeymasterIs Penn St supposed to suck this year? Pitt up 28-7.
VaWolf82KeymasterThe last 5 minutes or so have been a good example of what I was hoping to see starting at noon.
VaWolf82KeymasterWow. Got to love a RB that knocks the DB back and keeps going.
VaWolf82KeymasterVaWolf82KeymasterVaWolf82KeymasterLooks like the ezu coaches are playing to win.
Oh and rub it in our faces
VaWolf82KeymasterIf ezu can stop the rushing attack…then things will get much worse as the season goes on.
VaWolf82Keymaster2 series down and not a lot of good news for the Wolfpack
VaWolf82KeymasterGood Lord!!!! Where did that come from?
VaWolf82KeymasterCould have been worse….and we might end up there.
Let’s see what ezu has on defense.
VaWolf82KeymasterSonny is still kicking around. One of the VA radio stations plays his 60 sec summary of college football on the Monday morning drive to work.
VaWolf82KeymasterI do not share a Wolven disgust for where those Purple and Gold peeps mark their scent trails.
Me either. When I was in school, the football game was mostly a preamble to the dorm parties that followed. Things obviously turned ugly sometime after I graduated.

There was never going to be any good news from a game against an FCS opponent. The best that I hoped for was for no horrible news (reference UVA this past weekend). So I see absolutely no reason so far to adjust expectations from a 6-6 season (+/-1).
VaWolf82KeymasterThere are few constants in the world of college football and one of those constants is that the media consistently overrates and over hypes Notre Dame.
VaWolf82KeymasterOne of my go-to sites is cfbstats.com because they let you look at conference rankings based on performance only in conference games. With the gi-normous conferences, that slice of the stats is not as good as it used to be…but still far better than including OOC games which have a great range between weakest/hardest. So to add some objectivity to the UNC discussion:
2015 ACC Rankings using only ACC games:
UNC Scoring offense – #1
UNC Total offense – #2UNC Scoring defense – #7
UNC Total defense – #12When you see a big difference between scoring offense/defense and total offense/defense rankings, turnovers usually make up the difference. UNC was #1 in TO margin which probably explains the difference in their defensive rankings.
VaWolf82KeymasterSurely everyone values loyalty, but it’s important to value objectivity as well, lest you get run over by the likes of Lee Fowler.
Well said. Loyalty is an important quality, but you should never lose your objectivity. I try to stay in the huge middle between boundless optimism and depressing pessimism.
In general, I’m happy when State is doing well and know how to use the channel selector when they’re not.
VaWolf82KeymasterESPN ACC Position rankings
Running Back
7. NC State. Matt Dayes was on-pace for a 1,000-yard campaign before seeing his season cut short due to injury. Johnny Frasier behind him was one of the top running back recruits in the nation before redshirting last season. The potential is there for a big season on the ground in Raleigh.

QB
11. NC State: The Wolfpack brought in Ryan Finley from Boise State, reconnecting new offensive coordinator Eli Drinkwitz with a player he worked with at his previous stop. Finley understands the offense, which could give him a leg up over Jalan McClendon.

SECONDARY
11. NC State: A solid season from the Juston Burris-led secondary last year sets a high bar for this group, but Dravious Wright and Jack Tocho provide a nice start back there.

TE/WR
7. NC State Wolfpack: NC State has dealt with shortcomings at receiver the past few years, and enters this season without Jumichael Ramos (knee), its second-leading receiver in 2015. Redshirt freshman Brian Sessoms also is out. But Jaylen Samuels and Nyheim Hines are special players, headlining a group that needs more out of Bra’Lon Cherry, Maurice Trowell and Stephen Louis.
