VaWolf82Keymaster
This isn’t the first ugly year that we’ve been forced to watch. And it’s the third coach we’ve seen fail during the internet era. But even Sid had supporters that lasted through his last season. It’s been a long time since I’ve read anyone supporting Gott.
VaWolf82KeymasterI expected to bail on the FSU game before the half. I didn’t expect to bail out against WF.
VaWolf82KeymasterScoring drought of Sendekian proportions.
VaWolf82KeymasterWatching this game is making me nauseous.
Truly pathetic performance. A win over UNC went a long way in saving DD. It looks like Gott is beyond saving.
VaWolf82Keymastercheck that Tony, KIA, not MIA…
I stand corrected.
VaWolf82KeymasterWe are soooooo predictable
Isn’t that usually assumed when you’re talking about teams that suck?
VaWolf82KeymasterIf they really make the dance
I suspect they’ll go into the ACCT with at least a chance at the NCAAT. But it might not be a very good chance.
VaWolf82KeymasterDefense either didn’t make the trip to WS
If this was the military, State’s defense would be officially MIA.
VaWolf82KeymasterI don’t know. It’s an extremely rare occurrence for the lead up to a FB or BB season NOT TO be full of delusional projections. No matter how may times they fall flat, those uber-optimistic projections seem to come twice a year, every year.
Are you including the bookies who currently have State a 7.5 point favorite over SC as being delusional?
I don’t know a thing about SC, so I couldn’t say anything about the bookies.
BTW, I hope you’re right about State. But I don’t expect it.
VaWolf82KeymasterI would bet dollars to donuts only a handful of folks really think he can break through and get 8 regular season wins.

VaWolf82KeymasterNow we need to find that permanent answer.
Hopefully. But just because we can’t be sure that the next guy is going to be “the one”, that’s not a reason to keep one that is certainly not the answer.
VaWolf82KeymasterIn my post-selection entry, I try to link interesting articles and include important points in the comments. I thought it was interesting that the Dance Card methodology lined up with this passage from last year:
When Joe Castiglione [Selection Committee Chariman] made his media rounds after the Selection Show to explain the committee’s decisions, he repeatedly mentioned the number of RPI top-50 wins that bubble teams did and did not have. He didn’t mention the records that bubble teams had against RPI top-50 competition. Just the number of wins. And, when you look at the bubble teams that did and didn’t make the cut, it becomes apparent how much of an impact the metric had.
Bubble Teams’ RPI Top-50 Wins Bubble Teams in the FieldNumber of RPI Top-50 Wins

Valparaiso 1VaWolf82KeymasterAt one time, I thought Gott was well positioned given the ages of many of the top ACC coaches
The only way retirement was going to push Gott up is if their replacements sucked as bad as the ones we’ve had since V.
VaWolf82KeymasterExtending Gott while firing TOB would show she is too emotionally attached to Gott to think rationally.
Agreed. I also wouldn’t expect DY to say anything very negative before the season was over (or even afterwards). What she says to us is relatively unimportant. What she does with losing coaches is everything.
VaWolf82KeymasterPomeroy has said numerous times that his methodology is only meant to be predictive of Team A playing Team B.
Depending on its accuracy, that might not be a bad way to choose between two bubble teams. But we don’t know really know “if” or “how” it is used by the selection committee.
The injury excuse is a hard one to keep straight and apply evenly. But that’s not why the only reason their resume was unimpressive. (Resume summarized last year.)
1-1 against Top 25 teams
0-1 against 26-50 teamsTheir OOC SOS was impressive numerically (25th), but that ranking is obviously based on avoiding the bottom dwellers, not by playing top teams. In any event, they were selected and I would have voted to leave them home. At least last year’s committee didn’t pass on any deserving teams. My summary from last year:
But frankly, no one on this list has a resume that is screaming out for inclusion in a tournament to crown a national champion. If we ignore Wichita St (and resist the temptation to attribute it to reputation), then it doesn’t look to me like the Committee did a horrible job this year.
VaWolf82KeymasterWe better be thinking bigger.
There’s some wishful thinking.
VaWolf82KeymasterBJD, always the optimist… “1 in 2000? hahaha
BJD has always been known as the SFN Pollyanna. 🙂
VaWolf82KeymasterPitt won at BC by 11
VaWolf82KeymasterAccording to a TV commercial I just watched, you should talk to your doctor about Tritellix if you suffer from depression. Just saying.
VaWolf82KeymasterAbout the only thing sadder than FSU’s attendance is VT’s basketball coverage. I live about 90 minutes from campus and their 9pm game doesn’t show up on cable.
Note that I watched the ND/State football game in Phoenix.
VaWolf82KeymasterI’m really trying to hang on until halftime before throwing my TV thru the window.
It’s not looking good.I gave up when the lead hit 20. I’ll check the score on my phone’s yahoo sports app just to see how bad it’s going to get. Also there’s the thrilling BC/Pitt game going on now as well.
VaWolf82KeymasterLook at the sparse crowd in one of their best seasons in a while. I’m not sure that basketball out-ranks baseball on that campus.
VaWolf82Keymasterback to back losses on the road to GTech & Syracuse. But taking it in context that was after a brutal 6 game stretch of their schedule where they went 5-1
I talked about them in one of the weekly updates. The 5-1 streak was mostly at home. They go on the road and quickly lose. Not surprising based on Hamilton’s history.
VaWolf82KeymasterIt’s not looking like I’ll be watching unti the half. Getting ugly
VaWolf82KeymasterScowlin’ Leonard won an ACCT, so like Bennett I no longer completely discount his F4 possibilities
True. But F4 much tougher…unless they luck in like SYR last year.
