PapaJohn- I here ya on pulling for Archie as I did to. As far as pulling for a team we beat it really only matters when getting to the Tournament. We are here now and I hope we play like we can.
By the way, does anyone know what time Saturday we would play if we win tonight? I can’t find the time where I have looked. I thank you ahead of time for the info. GO PACK….
Tuffy2ParticipantEven if I didn’t know that Bill Leslie(anchor) for WRAL went to carolina he just has that usual TARHOLE smiley boy look on his face. I been waiting along time to say that. So there!
10/24/2014 at 5:02 AM in reply to: UNC Football coach, Larry Fedora admits to not caring about players academics #59807Tuffy2ParticipantJust thinking back over the years on the double standards that seem to always apply for that Arkham Asylum institution over there makes me sick.
Larry Fedora might have hurt his college chances but not his professional chances. So after all that was said at the press conference one would assume Fedora is or should be gone If they practice what they preach over there according to the message I was getting. Of course it’s apples and oranges over there. Oh! One more thing. You better leave Roy out of it if you know what’s good for you.
Tuffy2ParticipantI know this is a off topic but I was wanting to know if there is any truth behind the timing of when the coaching staff or the university learned about what had transpired in regards to (butAlston, Fernandez, Justin Jones, Josh Jones, McKever, Ramos and Stevens)the players involved in the incident that warranted their 1 game suspension? I had heard that the university was made aware of the situation with these players on a Monday or Tuesday the week of the Boston College game? If this is the case why not suspend these players for the BC game and not against the cardinals? Maybe someone could throw some light on this so I may get a better understanding.
I thought suspending these players probably will not teach them a thing and would only hurt the team and the outcome of the game. But I guess letting your teammates down has a long lasting impact that those players will have to live with. That works for me.
Tuffy2ParticipantWell foose, we finally thru the ball out of the wildcat but I was hoping for the back to be the one that thru it. Well I am glad we got that out of the way.LOL!
Tuffy2ParticipantGreywolf-If we had run Thornton on 1st down or 1st and 2nd down, I would have been OK with that. I actually like smash-mouth football when we have the studs to play that way. While studying film on Lville defense, Canada probably thought passing was our best shot which is why I was also OK with a short pass in the end zone. IMO A play isn’t necessarily wrong because it doesn’t work.
It is one thing to watch film during the week and it is another to see what has been working in the game. JB was pressured all day when he would run out to his right to either pass or run for his life once the pocket broke down. I do have a problem with him not taking a few steps back more once the snap comes to him in the shotgun. Does the QB or should I say does Canada believe in check downs. Put the ball in the hands of a back and let them do the damage. It seems to me that our routes by the WR our to long. The only thing I see working is JB throwing to the TE for the most part. Bo Heinz is a great WR and reminds me of a small version of Jerricho Cotchery. Sure handed….
Tuffy2ParticipantGreywolf-what got us to the half yard line was Thorton. The last thing you want to do is roll out against defensive speed. You run at speed or over it. It was 1st and goal not 3rd and goal so I think he gets a jab at the end zone. So yes, I stand by what I stated before. Now that I cleared that up, What else can I do for you? Oh! Shall we talk about how our QB blew that play? I have a suggestion for you. Try to follow your own suggestion and take a breath.
Tuffy2ParticipantBefore you want to place DD on the top of the list of those former two coaches you might want to see how it plays out first. My favorite coach we ever had was Dick Sheridan and he came in here while he was left with nothing from Tom Reed. In his 7 years here he had only 1 losing ACC record. I grant you he did not win an ACC championship but, if it was not for his health he was going to I truly believe. Going 52-29-3 overall and 31-9 in acc was not bad at all.
I am pulling for DD to succeed of course as it means I succeed as a wolfpack fan. Just remember one thing about evaluating coaches and that is they can only do so much to prepare a player to perform; the rest is up to the player on game day. Game management, play calling, and putting the players in a position to win: Well! those responsibilities on game day will always be on the coaching staff.
There have been defining moments over 47 years of being a pack fan that I will remember–good and bad– and yesterdays play selection with 1st and goal at the half yard line will be one I soon hope to forget. Amen!
Tuffy2ParticipantI am with you on when and if we have that big game we will be saying not now with the wildcat but then it works.
I felt the same way on that 4th down play in the GSU game as I was yelling put the points on the board.
I took my 11 year old granddaughter to her first football game and we met Sade the kicker as he came up to us against the wall near the field and was real polite to both of us. Needless to say she is a State fan now.
I wanted to say thanks to explaining all that you did tonight as I really appreciate it. I also want to say and I believe it was you all though I might be mistaken, thank you for info you wrote about the real reason Russell Wilson left and the TOB thing. It was the most direct to the point and accurate of an explanation ever written on SFN. Again I am not sure it was you but I think so. I am trying to remember under what topic it was under. This was just a few days ago that I read it so it must of been this past week.
Tuffy2ParticipantI understand what you are stating here about the wildcat that your giving the defense one more wrinkle during the week they have to study and respect as well as during the game. As far as the extra blocker you mean the QB then I really do not see the advantage there. I might be mistaken but in the nfl the QB at times can come out and the wildcat package comes in or can stay in and line up as a wide-out. Maybe this is done in college also. The key I know is to get into the wildcat as fast as possible.
Rashard Smith and Bryant Shirreffs both had passing TD’s last year.
Yes they did but as you said if you do it a lot it aint no surprise. That also holds true in our case with Shirreffs as we just ran it to the point he was not effective. There is a thin line when it comes to being successful and being predictable. But like you said I will give our coaching staff a chance of course. I feel in my heart he will succeed. One thing for sure he is no TOB and that I am thankful.
Tuffy2ParticipantI saw one blitz I explicitly remember. It was a 3rd and short, late in the first half I believe. From the situation and their play calling, I knew it was a run up the middle, so I assume the coaches did too. I said at the time we should blitz here. We did, defense held.
Foose- I was telling this guy I was sitting next to at the game that blitzing also plugs the hole to stop the running game and there were numerous 3rd and short that ODU ran and the blitz especially up the middle might have worked like the one you stated late in the first half.
I know we were playing against a very good QB last week but if we are talking youth that is one thing. We are talking youth that are not that talented. Bottom line is no matter what D we are trying to implement here it will only be as good as the recruiting DD brings in and it really is hard because you either have to sell N.C. State or win.
This week we go up against a backup QB but a very good RB. The bottom line is each and every week there will always be someone.
Tuffy2ParticipantI am not in favor of any formation that takes the only passing threat (QB) away. We don’t have a dominant enough offensive line, or good enough athletes to completely remove the element of surprise.
Rybread- I agree with you of always having that option. It sounds great and with quality recruits most on here would say there is nothing like telling a defense we are going to run the ball for example through the 2 hole and you won’t be able to stop us. With Me, it’s a numbers game. I would rather have the D guessing on each and every down even with the 4 and 5 star recruits if we are able to get them.
If DD and Canada in their playbook have a play while in the wildcat where Thorton or Dayes fake the run and throw it while say for example while in the red zone. It makes the formation an even more potent weapon against an over pursuing defense like an FSU or Clemson. Again as I was telling foose about the blitzing on D. Not the how many times we do it but the when and where it is implemented during the game. Surely one of those backs would be able to get it done. But only if it’s in the playbook
I really have the right intentions and I am always open to suggestions.
Tuffy2ParticipantBlitzing ODU any more than the 1 or 2 (maybe 3?) times we did would have been disastrous. Blitzing was absolutely NOT the way to go.
I guess I am trying to say is the where and the when we blitz not the amount of times. I understand the way this young defense has been playing especially the secondary to just blitz would be a formula for disaster. I’m aware the foundation has to be built before the walls go up in a house and coach DD knows this better than anyone.
As far as the wildcat, I feel it is a great tool that should be used but if there is not any deviation while using it then it will be snuffed out no matter how good an OL can be.
Tuffy2ParticipantBlitzing ODU any more than the 1 or 2 (maybe 3?) times we did would have been disastrous. Blitzing was absolutely NOT the way to go.
It’s a refreshing change to watch a coaching staff
that doesn’t refuse to acknowledge the obvious.tjfoose1- Meaning they understand the talent or lack of it and play accordingly? I agree with you if that is what you are saying about the coaching staff.
Tuffy2ParticipantI hope not but I would suspect once we get to fsu and further down the schedual penalties will increase on both sides of the ball.
It looked to me on Saturday night as I was at the game our backs created more than our OL doing their job. Not on a constant basis but much more than odu. Their center and left guard were winning the line. I should include the whole damn line. Of course the defense not wrapping up help their cause even more.
Is our coach relying on the front 4 only for pressure? If so, we might have to score 50 to 60 points a game just to stay in it. You can’t just give the QB that much time for 4 quarters.
Tuffy2ParticipantI am taking my 11 year old granddaughter to her first State football game and she loves the new helmets. Her dad(my son-in-law) is a big unc fan and him and I have been pulling her in the opposite direction for some time now. When she saw the video of the new uniforms she gave dad the bad news. Now in seven years she gives grandpa another surprise and enrolls at his Alma Mater.
Tuffy2ParticipantWe better look good as I am taking my granddaughter to her 1st NC State football game. See her dad is a unc fan and grandpa is trying to bring her up right. One thing going my way is she sure likes the new helmets.
Tuffy2ParticipantI am starting to panic. Is this game blacked out in Raleigh?
Tuffy2ParticipantIs this game on espn3?
Tuffy2ParticipantWhen you wake up!
08/29/2014 at 12:07 PM in reply to: Top motivational speaker who isn’t Wolfman Jack speaks to the Pack #54645Tuffy2ParticipantCould you imagine TOB bringing in this guy to speak to the team. Not in a million years.
Tuffy2ParticipantI might feel this way every year and get let down but I just feel like we are going to surprise most everyone. With the offensive line and our backs being the strength time of possession and scoring will win or keep us in games unlike last year. Sophomore Jinx not this year. Plus how could it when we had to be decent to begin with last year for that to happen anyway. No where to go but up!
Tuffy2ParticipantLove everything about the video but please don’t put the ball to the floor. Just go straight up with it big guy. Hard habit for some big men to break.
Tuffy2ParticipantHe also could be simplifying the offense to lessen the self inflicted errors that played a part in stopping drives last year. Maybe he sees that Brissett gives the team a better option to win with this offensive set.
04/29/2014 at 10:27 AM in reply to: Troy added to NC State Football Schedule + more on scheduling #51497Tuffy2ParticipantVirginia Wolf- When I say we, I mean inside the university itself lies the problem. NC State is its own worst enemy. I understand and agree with you.
This is off the topic but it all fits if you really think about it. During the alumni tag football game I ran into about 50 fans that wanted to know why they did not do the play by play so we could follow along. I myself complained to these two men that were about to take the elevators up the tower at the stadium. Would you not think if you care at all about the fans and would you think that just maybe these former players would have loved to here their names called out one last time?It all connects folks……….. But it is like you said Virginia Wolf get to 6-6 go to a bowl,PASS GO COLLECT 200 DOLLARS!
