I don’t know if anyone else saw the 30 for 30 on Ric Flair but one quote from him comes back to me with every football game – “to be the man you have to beat the man”. Obviously the Pack is not quite there but good thing is we have avoided a complete tailspin today.
tractor57ParticipantHi Eli (Bill)
tractor57ParticipantDid not play exceptionally well but a win is a win. Late in the 4th much better play. That said BC has a good young team.
tractor57ParticipantDodged the BC FG attempt. Now either run out the clock or score.
tractor57ParticipantThe difference? No wildcat.
tractor57ParticipantEven with that skip the wildcat and be better off.
tractor57ParticipantNo the Wildcat will cost the game.
tractor57ParticipantThis time the TOs hurt BC
tractor57ParticipantStop the cranial rectal inversion.
tractor57ParticipantFor a first game against undermanned opposition not bad. Still need some conditioning and of course some playing time together. As Va said can’t really draw any conclusions from this one game but I did like what I saw for the most part.
tractor57ParticipantI like the hustle.
tractor57ParticipantChop I used to visit Worcester often for work. While there I gained my appreciation of chowda.
tractor57ParticipantMight be the best news I’ve heard for next year. Finley should NEVER go to that QB wasteland.
tractor57ParticipantI’m also a NE chowder fan. Back in the day when I traveled NE I always got my chowda fix. Not much a fan of the Manhattan stuff.
tractor57ParticipantMy frustrations are with the kicking game – kickoff, punts and of course field goals. On a lesser scale the wildcat as long as it is only used for a dive play – by this time of the season all are old news. In general I’m encouraged but of course will never be satisfied until we win a natty every year 🙂
tractor57ParticipantI could get behind “the refs screwed us” if we had not screwed ourselves. Fine game to watch, but to be the man you have to beat the man. That includes not giving up touchdowns on punts or missing field goals. We are deep enough into the season that some offensive adjustments should happen (not saying the offense lost the game however our offensive scheme need to adapt as the defense they are playing adapts). Same goes of defense – over the season the defense has gotten better but game to game those adjustments are needed. Last summer few here would have thought the team would have shown such improvement but this a big time football not the ACC of old.
tractor57Participantbill agreed – it hurts but I’m not upset. Fine college FB game and we are close. Will we get there? Who knows but pound some TarHeel ass and I’m good for this year.
tractor57ParticipantI agree HWSHBN was decent are recruiting the type of players that fit his system. The problem were the other factors yoy mentioned. KK might be the greatest thing since sliced bread but at this point we don’t know. Beginning signs are positive but I’m not ready to give him the key to the city just yet. What I am willing is to support him as he moves in.
tractor57ParticipantChop – I agree it was the micromanaging. The system was ok for the talent level he tried to recruit. But that system has been pretty much legislated out with the ever greater need for more scoring. His teams actually played some defense and yes they always needed a alpha (more than most). KK seems to be a good choice but until I actually see the product I’m reserving judgment. Not that I expect KK to fail just that I want some evidence.
tractor57ParticipantI’ll give creit to Foulup for one thing – he did not let the budget run away. That’s about the only thing he did right.
tractor57Participant^ this is a point to be considered – we have some donors who give rather heavily but now to the level of Pickens
tractor57ParticipantI’m not so sure Archie was a can’t miss hire. I think a good choice but can’t miss is much more than that. I agree KK seems to be a good choice but until I see product on the court I’m withholding final judgment. As to football it seems we might be on the cusp – certainly better than anything since the Rein years but the landscape of ACC football is so different now. Money and facilities are always an issue. Foulup made a living on not spending money on anything other than facilities. Like Yow or not I think we can say the overall athletics program has moved forward under her watch – takes a bit of Sweaty Gary’s sting away.
tractor57Participant^ this
tractor57ParticipantI’m sorry but I do not agree. I do agree we in a push to excellence but football only?
If you need a reason why watch Whitt’s 30 for 30 thing.tractor57ParticipantOther than he worked for the Daniels family I have nothing bad to say. Yes RIP.
